Getting to know

…the smell of a roasted coffee awakens every cell that I have. I look around and found myself inside a modern furnish room with red and white interior. I try to remember the last scene that my head can recall. Suddenly the door crack open and I saw the bearded man in his white shirt and boxer short. My eyes took time staring at the shadow behind his athlete legs.

“Good morning Kate, coffee to freshen you up.” , he hand me a cup and he sit at one corner of the bed.

“I haven’t introduced myself formally. But I guess you had read my profile, on daily basis from now on you should call me Z, Zander Gray is my name. And you are Jane Gray. We are married my dear”

I almost spit off the coffee and I gave him a puzzled look.

“Why? Is the coffee not good? Or you don’t want to be married with a bearded man?” he laugh and his eyes get serious as he look at my shocked face “You did not do your assignment didn’t you? I guess it was written on the file that was sent to you ahead…..” sipping his coffee “…and um Kate, you’re not really a talker?”

“Well, I am actually a talker but right now I am still trying to grasp all the words that I’ve heard. I haven’t read the file that he hand me. I was planning to read it while on plane or on the way here. But I think you had said it all”

“Well, that is not so good news for me, if you have just read it you will not act strange at all from the moment we had a conversation at the plane.” Taking another sip on his cup “and Oh, by the way I had burned that file. Rule number 5, never bring script at the actual play. Sorry for checking with your luggage, I am just trying to make sure that we came here clean and as new people as who we should be. Cause we are paid for this.” And he stood up and walks his way out.

Seriously? What did he just said? I am married with him and what was in the file exactly? Did he even mention that he run thru my luggage? And I grab myself out of the bed to find my empty luggage. I came out of the room, and was amazed by a white and gold interior living room. With a huge wedding photo of us.

“When did we get this thing done?” pointing at the picture

“Didn’t you know who we work for? Oh…I almost forgot, you did not do your homework.” With a deep breath “Kate, we work with the international security agency. They have all the tools to make everything done. They have all the information and money that we need. I can’t believe they sent me a newbie. “ he walks into the kitchen area on the left side.

“I’m sorry to disappoint you, but if you will just let me know everything that was written on that package then I might be able to go on with what I should be here. I am a fast learner Z.”

I could sense the irritation in him towards me; even with his bearded face I could see his lips curve a bit in disappointment as he pour another batch of coffee to his cup. I cannot say a word, he is right I am very neglectful for not even opening that files that James hand me. I followed him as he sit on the table with two plates with bacon and bread. He moved the chair as if telling me to sit. I remember what James had told me “he trusts what is inside this shell”. He put bacon on my plate and started eating for himself. I cannot last this air of silence, James is right; he had set everything including the place. But he forgot to tell me about this set up. I can hear him deep breathing. I should break this silence, with my trembling voice I utter. ”I’m really sorry” He just gave me a glance.

“Look Kate, I’ve been doing this job for quite some time, and I had worked with a lot of people but your case is special.” Smirking “This is my first time to work with someone who doesn’t have any idea of what she is doing or even who she works for.” He lean his face near me, with this distance I can smell the coffee on his breathe for few seconds and he lean back to his sit. “I could smell a child inside of you, Ha! You finish your breakfast and took shower, I will tell you everything later.” And he stood up and grabs his coat near the front door, “Do not open this door nor talk to anyone, when I get back I will tell you how we will work this out.”

That was a rough morning. For a minute I almost forgot to appreciate this cozy place, I roll my eyes around. The onyx wall that serves as division from living room to kitchen area was very stunning it matches the old English interior of the kitchen. This place looks more like a hotel than a home for a husband and wife.

(Sigh) and he is right…. I don’t have an idea.
