Anaya's POV
To think a bunch of teenage boys could cause my heart to beat this fast out of fear! I wasn't proud of that. I turned to see Duke standing by the door, his face clearly contorted into a deep frown. "What the hell? Who told you to come in here? Get out!" He raged, completely angered by my presence. I flinched, "I'm sorry. I was just admiring these arts-" Duke came closer, his towering glance over me dominating, "are you deaf, omega? Get out right now!" I nodded, shaking with fear. But somehow, I realized he had been scared as well. Of something I couldn't quite point to. Maybe he didn't want me to see his arts for some reason? But they were lovely! I quickly walked out, then the door shut behind me in a bang. "Okay..." I found myself muttering. Alpha Donald's voice was loud as he called my name. I found him standing before me with brows arched upwards. "Where have you been? You know what, never mind. Come, let me introduce you to my sons." He said, gesturing over the couch for me to sit. Darius and Dean were already seated there. I heaved in a deep sigh before making my way forward. "Anaya, these are Darius and Dean. Duke will be here shortly." Alpha Donald said. "Oh look at that, Moonstone pack's little charity has arrived." Darius said, and I could actually see Deans's faint. "Hey quiet, Darius. Be nice to her. You all are turning eighteen tomorrow but you still behave like kids!." Alpha Donald's wife, the Luna of our pack, a slender tall lady walked in. She was making her way over to me with a warm cheery smile on her face. "Thank you ma'am." I said to her with my face lighting up in amazement. Maybe this place wouldn't be that bad after all. "Speaking of the devil," Alpha Donald said, causing everyone's eyes to glance forward at Duke walking in. He held this rigid frown in his eyes; typical Duke. "And this is Duke." I nodded slightly as a reply. 'I knew who they were. My tormentors!' I thought to myself. Duke took his seat, cold dark eyes glaring at me I almost shivered. "Next time, stay away from my room." My face flustered, "I'm sorry, I was checking the--" "That's fine." Luna Freya said to me, "you don't have to explain yourself. Duke can be such a headache sometimes.” She said and Duke rolled his eyes. “Come on, you boys. Be nice." Her tone was strict and firm. "Honey, I need to see you.” She said to her husband, then back to her kids, “You guys show Anaya to her room, okay?" She and her husband rose up and walked out. I wished they hadn't because now I was all alone with these devil brothers. I blinked, waiting for their cold words of insult. Instead, Dean was the one who got up. "Come on, let me show you to your room." I jumped up on my feet and followed him up the stairs till we arrived at a long passage lined with rooms. The third one to the right led to my room. "Here's where you'll be staying. Opposite to your room is Duke's. He hates noise." I watched him shake his head and muttered to himself, "why am I even telling you that?" before he turned and walked away. The room before me was neat and decent, a complete upgrade from my old room. With my muscles aching and my eyes feeling heavy, I knew all I wanted was just to crash down and sleep. It had been a long day indeed. The next day, I was woken up by Luna Freya, "come one. Breakfast is ready." I got ready for school, stepping into one of my casual outfits and ready to go. Downstairs, Duke was the only one in the kitchen for some reason. I paused, not expecting to have found him. He looked a lot more cheerful than yesterday when he acted grumpy and annoying. "Good morning," I said, trying to be nice. Duke's face was etched with irritation, making me almost regret my actions for trying out small talks. His dark brown hair was a mess, but it suited him nicely. I couldn't help but admire the choice of outfit for that morning, his button up shirt that hugged his athletic physique, with nice dark long pants. "Wow. No pen, no papers, yet I draw your attention like that?" I heard him say, causing my cheeks to fluster. I immediately stood my ground to show I hadn't been taken aback by his statement. "And how long have you been meaning to use that line?" I teased. "Darling, don't get over your head now." He said, piercing eyes observing like I were some of his art work. This was making me feel uncomfortable as hell. Then I felt a fabric covering my face and I quickly took it off. "What's this?" I demanded, seeing as he'd thrown his jacket at me. "With that thin polo shirt, you'll be freezing in no time. The weather will be chilly today. We wouldn't want our little charity to freeze to death now would we?" As much as it had annoyed me, this actually produced a slight chuckle on his face. Before I could give a comeback response, Darius and Dean walked in, forcing me to hold back my comment. There was a feeling of a strange warmth and comfort from the smoky wooden scent of the jacket that made my wolf stir within me. Why would Duke's scent excite me like that? Breakfast was served as we gathered on the dining table. "Anaya, you'll be going to school with the boys from now on." Luna Freya said. I nodded, trying to sound a bit excited with a little smile working its way over to my face. A short while later, Luna Freya got up, leaving me with the trio. Alpha Donald was nowhere to be seen. I was almost glad nothing was happening until Darius got up, a wide grin reaching his eyes. "Let me clear our plates for us, because I'm such a nice boy." I bit my lower lips, knowing nothing good would come from his outburst of excitement. Just as I'd imagine, he grabbed my plates with food still in it and placed it in the sink, turning on the tap. Even though I was fuming in rage, I said nothing. "Come on now. Let's go." He said with a foolish bow, looking very impressed with himself. The drive to school however held a bit of silence with the brothers muttering to themselves pretending like I didn't exist. And I didn't mind. We got down and on our way inside, we were stopped by a busty pretty girl; Moonshine Academy's sweetheart, Sarah Reynolds. "I thought I was dreaming. What is she doing sitting in the same car as you!" She pressed her boobs forward, scolding Duke, her boyfriend. Two other ladies, Donna and Maria appeared behind Sarah, and they were looking pretty angry as hell. "Why is this dirty orphan coming to school with you guys!" She demanded, not hiding the disgust that resided in her eyes as she turned to face me.ANAYA’S POVA loud pitched ringing echoed in my head as I tried to open my eyes. I groaned softly, trying to settle my breathing. Where was I? I wondered, Trying to move, I felt a sort of bondage holding me back, what was the meaning of this? Struggling, I realized I was tied to a chair. A gasp escaped my mouth as I looked around. Footsteps were being heard from a distance. Turning my head backwards, my eyes landed on the stranger whom had been talking with Duke. His piercing green eyes were one to not forget. My eyes widened as I sighted him. His lips spread into a wide grin, “hello Anaya,” he smirked wickedly, “you must be surprised to meet yourself in my house, don’t worry, it is my boss that wishes to see you.”I squinted. His boss? I wanted to speak but my mouth was covered. I struggled to speak either way.“Calm down dear,” another voice came from behind me. “No need to struggle, I just don’t want any disturbance while I explain things to you. I have come to realize that you a
It was a cool Sunday morning, the wind howled silently and the subtle breeze danced along with the trees. Anaya walked out of her apartment dressed in her winter sweater and mittens, a cool icy breathe escaped her mouth as she breathed out. She rubbed her hands together and pulled her head warmer properly over her head. The year was falling into its second trimester and the summer breeze was starting to sit comfortably. How long had it been since she set foot in this small town? About four years or five. After graduation, things had moved rather quickly for her. Getting into a good university was easier than she had expected, Rafa had been there all through to help financially and emotionally. After spending four years in a prestigious university, she had graduated with the best of the best result and surprisingly, her rank but was not considered when she was given the post of a secretary in a high end company. Over a year since she started working, she had saved up enough to car
ANAYA'S POVI did not know how to process the information I had just heard. Whether it was true or not was left to my mother's wolf and she would have no reason to lie to me or try to deceive me with something so expensive. 'My name is Ella,' she said lovingly, 'after your mother's death, I became your protector because it was her dying wish. So I will be with you forever until we are no more.'Tears trailed down my face like a free stream, my heart ached so wearily and I could not breathe. I felt like I was drowning in a deep ocean. "Mom..." I called out to her as I sobbed. Hitting my chest, I tried to help myself breathe again but it seemed all my efforts were futile. 'Anaya... Breathe...' I heard Ella's voice in my head. 'You are holding back your own breath... Breathe...' She said so soothingly but it did not help me. So I was the hindrance to my own breathing, knowing that did nothing to help me though. I still did not breathe. I hit my chest again, sobbing even louder into
DUKE'S POVI gave a swift turn and tried to flip the person behind me but then my eyes widened as I realized who was standing behind me. "Darius?" I furrowed my brows. "That could have been one mean flip," he said, "and very painful too." He added. I could not help but to smile but only for a second. "What are you doing out here when it's so dark?" I questioned him as I released him from my hold. "I could ask you the same." He responded as he crossed his arms. "I just... Needed some air." I avoided his gaze as I responded. What good would it come to if I told him I was looking for Anaya to make sure she was okay? Especially since I was the one who hurt her in the first place. I could almost laugh out loud at my foolishness. "Do you have any idea how fast we had to run to keep up with you?" I turned to look behind Darius as I heard another familiar voice coming from that direction.I arched my brow at him. "Dean? What are you guys doing out here? Did you two follow me to scold m
ANAYA'S POVI felt a sudden cold air blow past me and a shudder ran down my spine. Yet I knew the weather was stagnant and no leaves rustled from being pushed around by any sudden wind. I felt cold and warm at the same time, all feelings and emotions traveling through my body without care for the effects it was causing me. But I didn't mind because even though I felt it all, I felt nothing. "What did you just say....?" The question rolled off my tongue as carefully and slowly as it could go. At first, I was met by a deafening silence. But then her voice boomed in my head, gentle and caring as one would tenderly speak to a struggling plant while trying to offer it support to grow. 'Your mother was a strong woman and I was her best friend. Just as strong and even more powerful.' She gave a pause but I did not bother to interfere or rush her. Instead, I listened on to her explanation in utmost silence and total concentration. 'She was a very strong sentinel, keen, resilient, stubbor
THIRD POV"What the fuck did you do to her, Duke?!" Darius spat out angrily. "Don't tell me it is what I am thinking.""Yeah Duke," Dean added as he advanced towards his brothers. "Tell us exactly what happened.""What are your brothers talking about?" Luna Freya stared confusedly at her sons. What were they talking about? Duke felt the words too heavy to pronounce but they had already felt it and it was of no use to pretend. So he took a deep breath and spoke up in a loud, audible and confident voice. "I rejected her as my mate."Luna Freya's arms dropped lifelessly to her sides and her heart slowed. She did not understand what her son had just said or maybe she had not heard him clearly. "You... You rejected her?" She arched her brow at him. "What were you all expecting?" Duke asked without a hint of remorse in his voice. "Were you expecting me to make her our luna? Come on, we can't always be selfish.""Why can't she be our luna?" Dean requested in a stern voice. "Because she is
