Marianna’s POV.
“Congratulations Ms. Lauren. You are pregnant” The doctor said with a smile on her face. I stared at the test results in disbelief. “Anna Lauren. Two weeks pregnant” I had been feeling sick for the past few days and decided to come for a check up. “Am I truly pregnant?” I asked, voice shaking slightly. It's been three years since I've been married to my husband, three years since we desperately wanted a child and now, I'm pregnant! “Thank you doctor. Thank you so much” I said breathlessly before standing up, the metallic chair scraping against the ground. “Make sure to come for prenatals regularly. This stage of your pregnancy is crucial, we need to stabilize your uterus” she said. I could barely understand her but I nodded with a wide smile. I just can't wait to leave and inform Drey, my husband, about it. “I'll take my leave now, doctor” I bowed slightly and walked out of the office, clutching the results in my hands like it was my lifeline. “Pick up, Drey” I prayed earnestly in my mind as the ringing tone of the phone continued. Drey didn't pick up because he was probably in a meeting. We were going to see each other at home after work. “Drive back to the bakery” I said to the driver who bowed his head immediately. “Yes ma'am” he responded. Back in my office in the bakery, I could only smile widely, daydreaming about the look that would be on Drey’s face when I tell him about the pregnancy. I caressed my stomach and my smile widened. “I have a baby. Finally, I'm going to be a mother” I whispered. “This won't do” I stood up, saying loudly. “I should just go home and wait for Drey!” I picked my phone and texted him. “I have something to tell you once you are home, honey” A small giggle escaped my lips as I grabbed my bag and walked out of the room. … The house was filled with silence, the air hitting me differently today. Everytime I get back from work, there was no child of mine to welcome me back, but today, there was hope. In nine months, I'll be having a baby. “You are back early today, ma'am” The cook’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I turned my face to her and my lips curled into a smile. “You can leave early today, Ms. I'll cook dinner” She looked at me surprised. I also couldn't recall the last time I cooked dinner but today, I will, because it's a special day. She didn't object and only bowed. “Yes, ma'am” A few minutes later, I was in the kitchen, cooking my husband's favorite. Grilled salmon with wild rice and roasted vegetables. When I was done, I served the meal. I placed some avocados on the side and looked over the table to see what's missing. “Ah!” I exclaimed. “The wine” Immediately, I made my way to the wine cellar. I picked a Pinot Noir fruit wine and placed it at the center of the table. With a smile still plastered on my face, I moved upstairs. “Now, I should go change and wait for my husband's return” Meanwhile, in my room, my phone had been ringing and I had been left with two missed calls from my best friend, Vivian. I returned the call and she picked up immediately. I might as well share the good news with her. “Hey Vivian.” My voice was loud, laced with cheerfulness. “Listen, Anna. I would have loved to talk for long but I'm really busy right now” she smacked her tongue. Vivian works as an assistant make-up artist for a modeling agency. She's always busy and I understand her. “It's fine. I have something to tell you but we can talk later” I replied quickly. “Yours can wait, but I don't think mine can” she babbled. “I think I saw your husband a while ago!” Her voice was panicked. “I sent you some photos!” “Take a deep breath before you check, Anna!” What does that mean? Vivian hung up almost immediately and my phone beeped twice with images. I clicked casually but the sight on my screen made my body stiffen, my blood suddenly running cold. There were pictures of my husband and a woman leaving a five star restaurant with Drey holding her hand. Thoughts went through my head but I shook them off immediately. “It's nothing,” I told myself. They could be business partners, friends or something. No way it's what I'm thinking. A few moments later, I heard the clicking sound of the door, indicating someone just entered. Drey is back. The smile on my face before the call with Vivian returned and I walked out of the room, heading downstairs. “I'm so sick of having to be careful of your wife every time,” a female voice said. I paused at the stair landing, hiding behind a huge pillar. I watched Drey, who was standing with the woman from the restaurant in front of him. When I looked closely, I realized the lady was his secretary. The one I introduced to him! My breath hitched. Drey went to a restaurant with his secretary while holding her hand? She placed her hand on his chest, caressing it while I blinked in disbelief. “Just wait a little longer, you'll legally be my wife” Drey kissed her lips. The sight was so shocking and disgusting that I suddenly felt like puking, and his words? They made my legs buckle. “Right” His secretary smiled widely. “Tomorrow we get rid of her” “Yes. We took everything from her and now I'm done with her!” Drey smiled, making everything so surreal. “Tomorrow, she dies” The words resonated in my ears but I couldn't believe them. Every single word and action felt like a prank, like a cruel joke. “We should have done this sooner. She almost found out we killed her parents” his secretary added. I stumbled backwards, eyes widening in shock, hands covering my mouth to prevent myself from screaming. That can't be true. Drey Lauren has always been my husband, my comforter, my safe place. For three years, he was the only thing I could ever call mine. No way…… just no way he could have done that. My husband can't be cheating on me with his secretary. There's no way he killed my parents, he also can't be planning to kill me. But the truth was right in front of me while I chose to be in denial.Marianna’s pov.Later that day Rowan had visited, Alexander told me about how his brother never liked visiting him, “what could have brought him here today” I pondered, just then Alexandar whispered in my ears… “he’s investigating” how he could read my mind at any time is overwhelming.“Brother” seems my house is becoming to your liking, “what a surprise” Alexander teased, just then I came in with two glasses of wine, “I can see that your mysterious wife is becoming more charming each day” “is your wife no longer to your taste? Alexander retaliated. Just then Rowan faced me, I could feel the heat that was coming before me but I can’t show a single weakness at a time like this, how come there’s no record of your past? He asked while looking deep into my eyes, “privacy I guess” that was not the answer he was expecting from me. At this time he could only smile at me and I smiled back too. Alexander was just watching, he knew I could handle this, so he didn’t bother interrupting. “Just t
Alexander’s pov”.It was early the next morning and Marianna was set to go out. “Where are you headed to?, I asked her, she turned slowly to face me, I was expecting a direct answer but instead she said I could join her if I want, there’s no way I could let her go out on her own, she now knows part of the truth so she could do anything at anytime, I needed to be there to stop her from taking any risk. “Am going with you” I said to her.Soon after, we arrived at the Reed’s Headquarters, it was still carrying her name. I watched as she stood across the street hidden behind dark sunglasses and a tailored suit. Her posture was relaxed but her eyes were still sharp. She watched people moved in and out of the glass doors without a second glance. Employees, Executives, assistants rushing with files and phones pressed to their ears. This was her world. “Does it feel different?” I asked her. She said “No” without looking at me. I knew it was a lie, it felt very different, it felt like standing
Alexander’s pov. I was in my private chamber when I heard a knock on the door, Alexander it’s me’, Marianna had shouted. ‘Good morning sunshine” I said while I tried to arrange her hair but she pushed me away, oh jeez! Why are you not putting on shirt, she yelled… Do I have to put on shirts in my chambers ?? You invaded my room unannounced, I said while smiling at her. “Oh goodness! I thought I knocked, am so so sorry, I will go right back there and knock while you get the door once again, she said teasingly while making her way to the door but I held her back looking deep into her eyes, I whispered into her ears ‘cut the drama Marianna”, why are you in my private chambers? she went dumb at the moment, while trying to escape me,she had whispered back in my ears, ‘you have gone insane Alexander” I’ve gone insane for you sunshine, i said while smiling at her but Marianna will not buy that smile, I always thought I was good at manipulating people but she’s got more skill on that
Marianna’s pov.The car door was opened and I came down looking all spruced up with my new found husband beside me while we walked arm in arm into the building, Good day mr. and mrs.crowns, the housekeepers greeted with their heads bowed, while we waved at them we made our entrance into the hall where the meeting was held, as we approached we saw that everyone was already at the table including Rowan, Alexander’s stepbrother , looks like i and Alexander were the main event cuz everyone was waiting for us. The stare coming from them was unavoidable. At the table, Alexander pulled out a chair for me like a gentleman before sitting down himself, after which we exchanged pleasantries with everyone, Grandfather was not yet at the table so we dined while waiting. The room was quiet at the moment but of course there’s no way Rowan won’t cause a scene, just as I was pondering he broke the silence. Why is a mere total stranger sitting at our table and even dining with us? He asked and was wait
Marianna’s pov, “Where am I?? I asked, facing a young man in front of me who have been examining my whole body. How is she doctor?? from another voice coming in through the door, I raised up my head to see Alexander the man who had falsely claimed that I was his wife. This was when I realized that I was in a hospital. Let’s talk in my office, the doctor said to Alexander, Okay doctor I will be with you shortly. “How are you feeling now my darling?? Alexander said as he turned to look at me, meanwhile I was lost in thought as I was busy contemplating if I should let him know the truth or not. “Darling! Alexander called out again, “You lied to me,’’ I said to Alexander who was already confused but looking at me he could tell that I already recovered my memories and there was no way he could keep on lying. I needed to get married in order to take over my grandfather’s company, and then I saw you on that road that night lying on the ground gasping for breath afte
Marianna’s POV~Two weeks later~Why does it feel like I have died before? Even after living as Marianna Crowns for two weeks, I couldn't bring myself to believe this was the life I had lived.Every day, I prayed earnestly for my memories to return.Alexander also tried to help me regain my memories by making us take walks in paths he claimed we had always walked together, eating at restaurants he claimed we had frequented together, but nothing returned.Today, I stared at my reflection in the mirror as one of the maids applied makeup on my face.“How long have you been here?” I asked. She paused, taking her hands off my face and standing with her head slightly bowed, hands carefully placed at her front.“Almost a year, ma'am,” she responded.I turned my face to her slowly. “How long have I been married to Alexander?”“Six months, ma'am.” She replied.I turned back to the mirror and took a deep breath. Everything proved that Alexander Crowns is my husband and I'm his wife. The wedding
