Liliana

Silently, I followed Tabitha down to breakfast, talking about the pack house decor with raised brows and maybe a bit of intrigue.

The place was gloomy but in an endearing way that just made sense for the kind of people that lived here.

Gerald's pack was different from every other pack.

Not only was he one of a kind in leadership as an Alpha, but also his pack's trade of choice was unusual.

Where other packs sold oil, weapons, and even slaves, he sold a service. One that always delivered. I was an anomaly.

Paintings lined every wall. Some of a family in ancient clothing all seated. Something about the painting called to me.

Some of the paintings were more abstract, and others were of Gerald. He looked regal but rugged at the same time.

As we stepped into the dining room, I was surprised at how carefree everyone looked.

The men that had abducted me were all seated in different parts of the dining room, eating and laughing at each other.

That was for sureOf course the fucker, Humphrey would teach his only daughter these things. In fact, it made sense but it still felt wrong. She wasn't the "Sit still pretty princess." I thought she was.A laugh, sharp and bitter escaped me as I shook my head. No way Humphrey had actually taught his daughter life skills. But then again, maybe it was his guilt talking, guilt that he hadn't been able to protect her mother. We stood in an endless stretch of farmland, at least a hundred acres wide. The air was heavy with a stehfh of sun-warmed soil and faint manure, the him of Cidicas drilling into my ears."Finally, anything?" I asked when I spotted Max jogging back towards us, Sweat glistening on his brows."Just an old man with a few workers. None of them saw anyone like that." Max said breathlessly."Fuck!" I groaned, shoving my hand through my hair in frustration."They didn't see any

Chapter twenty-sevenLilianaI was crouched down, peeling potatoes ona makeshift countertop, whistling a harmonious tone.Although I wasn't used toI felt safe and happy around them. I had been here for a day and a half, and I felt like I had known them forever.Peter and Josephine have been nothing but kind to me. Even when I had woken up this morning and insisted I find a motel to stay in, they'd vehemently refused, encouraging me to stay as long as I deemed fit.Just as Josephine had promised. She'd not asked any questions about who I was running from, which was great because I wasn't sure I was ready to tell her my entire traumatic life without crying my eyes out.Just thinking about it now made my chest tight.Josephine appeared in the kitchen just then as if she'd heard my thoughts."How is it going?" She asked with a smile.I looked up at her from my crouched position."I think I've gotten the hang of it." I showed her a bucket

Chapter twenty-sixGerald"Holy fuck, I'm exhausted!" Cain said as he took off his helmet.I barely paid him any mind. The only thing I cared about right now was getting the much-deserved rest. The mission had been a success. The second mission. The rogue leader was still on the run, but a few of my men were still watching out for him.As I entered the pack house, I felt a strange emptiness, like something was gone.It didn't help that the guards seemed to look a bit on edge. Even the maids looked a little nervous, whispering among themselves as they hurried through the halls. My instincts flared instantly. Something was wrong."You," I beckoned to one of the guards. He hurried towards me, his eyes darting around."What's going on?" I asked without mincing my words."Welcome, Alpha." He bowed."What is going on?""There's been an incident." He murmured."Well, speak up. What is it?"I demanded, not liking the air.It was too tense."Alpha, you're back." Max emerged, interrupting me."

Chapter twenty fiveLilianaAs I slung my backpack over my shoulders, I wrapped a scarf around my face and put on a pair of sunglasses I had stolen from Max to disguise myself.I took out some onions and garlic that I had chopped up yesterday before coming here and sprayed it all over the place to mask my scent. If Max came looking for me, my scent would stop here.I continued to sprinkle onion and garlic and then rubbed some all over my body before leaving that spot.I walked through the clearing, making sure to take note of every little thing around me.Even though I had gotten about three and half hours of sleep, I was still very tired and groggy. Who knew escaping your abductors felt way worse than staying with them?"Shut up" Kyra, my wolf shook her head at me.I kept my eyes and mind sharp, looking out for any predators lurking around the woods. My hands were shoved inside the pocket of a trench coat I had stolen from the laundry room. Chapter twenty-fourGeraldIt happened so fast. They came out of nowhere, quiet, stealthy, and undetectable. We were surrounded now. Almost thirty burly-looking men to two of us.Landen and I banded into a circle, each of us facing the men around us.They were heavily armed with different weapons but mostly swords. No firearmin sight.Good. That would make my work easier.I should have known this was going to happen.I had sensed it."Who is your leader here?* I demanded, my voice cutting through the chaos like steel. I already knew who he was, but I wanted him to say it.He stood out towering over the rest, muscles taut beneath his armor, with a long chonmage that swayed like a black banner of defiance. The rogue shifted around him, their sharks quieting."Who wants to know?" He asked. The strange markings all over his body told me what region and pack he was from or that he'd been banished from.No wonder he was so hard to get rid of, and no wonder I had been hired. He was from the

Chapter twenty threeGeraldRogues, they were the absolute worst-wild, filthy, and disgusting. They'd been plaguing the Silver Moon Pack for weeks now, attacking travelers, stealing supplies, and worse, kidnapping young wolves for ransom. It was getting out of hand, and I had finally been hired to put an end to it.Usually, I wouldn't take jobs like this, but they were messing with my trade with other packs, and merchants that were supposed to come in to supply their goods were getting robbed. This was a win-win for me.I glanced down at my watch. Two more minutes. Cain and Coco were still tracking the rogues' scent to their hideout, and I needed that update fast. We were parked in an unmarked black van a few hundred meters from the woods. The smell of rot and unwashed fur in the air told me we were close.I tapped my foot against the floorboard of the van. Time was slipping. I had exactly thirty minutes before I was due at a party I'd promised to attend. Showing up late wasn't an opt
