Renee’s POV

My brows knit together as I stared at the diamond necklace sparkling against Linda’s collarbone.

Draven emerged from the kitchen, two glasses of red wine in hand. His face softened into a rare, genuine smile as he passed one to her and dropped onto the sofa beside her, close enough that their shoulders brushed.

I curled my fingers into my palms until my nails bit skin and stepped forward.

“Hi, Renee.” Linda gave a little wave, casual and bright. “I heard you were… resting upstairs.”

“I was asleep,” I said, forcing a tight smile.

“That necklace…I thought it was a gift for me?” The words slipped out before I could stop them. I pointed.

Draven’s smile vanished. Irritation flashed in his eyes. “Why do you always have to play the victim? My sister, who I haven’t seen in years finally comes home, and the first thing out of your mouth is this?”

The accusation stung like a slap. My nails dug deeper; I felt the warm prick of blood.

“Oh, brother, don’t be so hard on her.” Linda leaned in, brushing a light hand across his chest. “Think how she must feel, seeing something she thought was hers around my neck.”

Draven hissed under his breath, like I was an annoying fly. “Just go help in the kitchen. Mother’s in the bath, she wants dinner ready when she’s out.”

I turned on numb legs and retreated, gritting my teeth as I scrubbed and stirred. My stomach growled loudly, reminding me I’d skipped lunch. No one noticed.

At the dinner table, laughter filled the air, Linda’s bright, Draven’s low chuckle, their mother’s approving nods. I couldn’t stop staring at the necklace glinting under the chandelier. Same brand, same design. He’d remembered my words… he just didn't get them for me.

“Are you going to eat or just glare at your plate?” My mother-in-law snapped.

I flinched, dropping my gaze to the untouched steak and mashed potatoes.

“That’s the problem with people who marry into wealth,” she continued, voice dripping with disdain. “No appreciation. Wasting good food.

Draven flicked a glance my way but said nothing.

“Oh, Mom, leave her alone.” Linda smiled sweetly at me before turning back. “She’s probably still in shock. You were saying about that fashion show…?”

They dove back in, forgetting me instantly. I sat silent, grateful for the reprieve even as it burned.

“You’ll stay here at your brother’s,” their mother declared. “Easier for me to see both my children under one roof.”

My mouth opened. “We weren’t told ahead of time….”

“Would you rather she sleep on the street?” she barked, eyes blazing.

I froze. Linda was her blood daughter, welcomed like royalty since the day their parents married. No one would let her sleep rough.

“That’s enough, Mom,” Draven cut in, not meeting my eyes. “She can stay here until she finds her own place.”

Linda cast me a soft, sorrowful look. “I don’t think my sister-in-law is comfortable with that. I can book a hotel….”

“Nonsense.” Draven waved it off. “You get insomnia in strange places.”

“I know, right?” Linda laughed, light and nostalgic. “Remember our first camping trip?”

Draven’s expression warmed. “How could I forget? You were terrified of the tent, begging me to stay up with you all night.”

“You two really do complete each other,” their mother sighed, beaming.

I sat frozen, watching them reminisce about shared memories I’d never been part of.

After dinner, Draven stood. “I have to show you something.” He offered Linda his arm; she lit up and let him lead her away.

“What are you waiting for?” his mother snapped at me. “Clear the table.”

I did, teeth clenched. No scenes with a guest in the house.

Draven returned alone while I wiped down the surface. “Renee. We need to talk.”

Hope sparked, maybe an apology, an explanation.

“You shouldn’t treat my sister like a stranger,” he said instead. “Be understanding. Be kind.”

I swallowed the lump in my throat. “What about the necklace? I mentioned that collection to you…”

He sighed, bored. “My assistant picked it out, said it was perfect for a lady. I didn’t even know it was a necklace. If it bothers you that much, I’ll buy you whatever you want.”

The words landed flat, dismissive. I nodded anyway, clinging to them like a lifeline. Maybe it was just a misunderstanding. Maybe now was the time to tell him about the baby.

“The thing is, I…”

A sharp cry cut me off from outside.

Draven spun. “Linda? Linda!”

He bolted out. I followed, slower, heart pounding.

He was already at the door, helping her up from the ground.

“What happened?” Panic edged his voice, real concern I’d never heard directed at me.

“I waited like you said, but I got thirsty…and slipped on the wet floor.” Tears shimmered in her eyes.

“I’m sorry I left you.” He pulled her into his chest, holding her close.

They brushed past me on the way in. Linda’s gaze flicked to mine, a quick, sharp smile she didn’t bother hiding.

“Tell the maids to fix that slippery spot,” Draven ordered over his shoulder.

I stood rooted, watching him lead her away. My chest ached, thoughts spiraling.

This wasn’t my husband anymore. Not the man who’d barely noticed me faint. Not the one who’d dismissed my pain in seconds.

And Linda… She knew exactly what she was doing.

Draven's PovHe turned to face Draven.“And now you're telling me that you cannot even control how shares in your own company are purchased?”“That's not what happened.”“Then what happened?”“We had a system malfunction. These things happen, and we're taking the necessary steps to correct the problem.”“Do not patronize me, Draven.”Richard's voice rose slightly.“I am not interested in your excuses. I am interested in results. If your company cannot protect its own transactions, what assurance do I have that it can protect my investment?”Draven opened his mouth, but Richard raised a hand to stop him.“Let me ask you something. Is this the sort of person you expect me to do business with? Someone who cannot guarantee that the shares he offers for sale will actually be available when the time comes to purchase them?”“Richard, that's not fair. Our families have had a good working relationship, and we have always honoured our commitments to your family.”“And I have always paid for wh

  • Burning The Creed Empire   Meeting With Richard

Draven’s Pov“There has to be a way to reverse the transaction.” Draven told his assistant who was sitting directly opposite him with his tablet in hand.Ero's eyes darted from side to side as he watched the tab like a hawk searching for prey in the rainforest.“I can try to report the transaction so that it would be tagged void.” He replied, tapping on the screen of the tab.Draven rubbed his hands together, his elbows positioned on either side of his laptop. This was the first time he'd seen an issue like this. He was still baffled how the person was able to perform such a huge transaction without a valid address. How did they bypass the system? He was still holding onto that very thought when Ero spoke again.“The system doesn't recognize it as an abnormal purchase. Because the purchase was made during the system's malfunction.”Draven exhaled. They'd been going at this for hours. It was daybreak already and his meeting with Richard was in a few hours, yet they hadn't found a solut

Draven’s povHe rushed down from the car before the driver could park properly and ran into the house. The maid who had called him was standing by the hallway, her hands covering her mouth when she saw him. “Where's my mom? Where's she?” She pointed to the second door by the left and he stormed in. The room was empty. He went into the bathroom immediately. He stopped abruptly and turned his face instinctively when he saw a naked Linda laid out on the toilet floor. “What are you doing here? Where's mom?” He asked, his gaze still shifted from her form. “Help me up Draven, I think I twisted my ankle.” She cried, spreading her hands like a child expecting an adult to carry her. “Why did you ask the maid to help you up? I thought it was an emergency or mom was hurt.” Draven complained, turning away from her. “Where are you going?” She called. “I didn't want them to see naked and they're not as strong as you…” Draven gritted.“A female nurse will come to check on your ankle. When yo

  • Burning The Creed Empire   New Stakeholder

Draven’s Pov“This isn't a case of making flat promises. The brand we're building is the next big thing and I want you to join us.” Draven was seated opposite an elite, Richad Monroe in a cafe. The two of them had iced coffee and cheese cakes served but neither of them touched their food. “Why don't you just open it to the general public? I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in becoming a shareholder.” Mr. Richard replied with a neutral expression. He'd just returned from overseas and was the most sought after in the city. His father had managed to handle one of the oldest businesses in the city that he inherited from his father. And now, Richard had finally returned to take over from his father and hopefully pass it onto his son in the future. Therefore, Draven wanted Richard to be one of the shareholders. Richard was looking at it from a carefree and neutral ground while Draven was looking at it like something that would change the course of his new business. Flaire

  • Burning The Creed Empire   Job Done

Draven's PovOne might have thought that Draven's mother would let him off her hook since his relationship with Claire was going well, but that wasn't the case. She still watched him like a hawk. Only that could explain how she knew where they were earlier that day and why she called him home for an ‘urgent' meeting. “What did you say to her?” She asked, the minute Draven entered the living room. She'd been sitting there waiting like a cat about to catch its prey. “Who?” Draven asked with a frown. He'd suspected that she was going to call him for her usual dramatic and mostly meaningless meetings but he went when he heard the urgency in her voice. “Your wife to be. You two went on a date but you made sure the smile she went there with was wiped off her face by the time you two left the place.”Draven almost rolled his eyes but he held himself as that would prompt more dramatic reaction from her and he wouldn't leave as early as he'd planned to leave. “We were just having a discus

  • Burning The Creed Empire   Eat Up

Draven's PovWithin the space of three months, he'd achieved what usually took him six months. His mother– Mrs. Creed was right. His involvement with Claire really opened doors easily. Everyone wanted to put their money in the partnership between two large empires because apparently, it had more insurance than investing in a grieving man's company. He'd also managed to handle Linda and she no longer made funny moves. She didn't even bother showing her face anymore. That was a big win if you asked him. That was his only goal initially: get Linda off my back. But his means to achieve his goal came with other perks. Now, which business man would reject the perks that came with business? This alliance and united front they'd built over the months however came with some demands. They had to take some suggestive pictures, most brands wanted both of them to work on the same projects. For a man who lost his wife in a tragic and unexpected way and couldn't forgive himself, his life tur
