3 - shameless husband, crazy wife

The surgery was a success and the mother lost her baby, but she was yet to wake up.

Because of his sister insisting he had to stay up all night to sit by her side as the surgery went on without the chance to close the deals with those greedy and impatient investors who he had spent months trying to convince.

He promised himself to take it out on the dumb woman and make her pay.

“This is my fault. I shouldn’t have asked the driver to hurry to pick you up. His sister was back to feeling guilty but nothing he did could convince her otherwise

Which made him hate that woman the more.

“She will be fine and she’ll tell you it’s not your fault when she wakes up,” he said as he patted her head,” so why don’t you go take a rest at home? You need to get some sleep.”

“No, I want to be here when she wakes up, so I can apologize,” she insisted and he felt his strength leave his body.

Time was money and of essence to him and with every minute that passed, he was losing a lot of it.

Later that evening after he had lost two more investors, the doctor came to tell him the good news, his ‘wife’ had woken up and they could visit her, they rushed into her room and he was ready to lash at her and tell her she was a fake and that he had seen everything happen when they told him another piece of news.

“But she had mild amnesia which should clear off in a day or two, she only remembers that she was pregnant and is very sensitive at the moment, so please bear with her,” the doctor said and his sister who had been mistaken for their first child had started crying again.

“It’s all my fault.”

Gift on the other hand was awake and staring at the white ceiling, she felt very weak from crying after being told about the baby.

She had woken up with the question, “my baby,” directed at the nurse in charge and had the news broken to her like this, “I’m sorry,  but we had to make the tough choice as it was either you or the child.”

“Tough choice?” she had scoffed with silent tears falling down  her face, “I don’t remember making such a choice,”

“That’s because you didn’t, it was your husband who did, but it’s because he loves you so much.” The nurse had explained with hopes that it would plancate gift, but all Gift felt was hatred for the man that made her feel such a deep sense of loss.

So when Zenith and Olivia entered, she had stared daggers of hatred at him and she noticed he was doing the same.

Perfect, they hated each other, but when little Olivia ran to her side and started crying and apologizing, she couldn't help but relax her hatred and try to understand what was going on.

“Don’t cry, look, I’m fine now,’’ she had said, but Olivia couldn’t stop crying and was soon dragged out of the room, leaving the two alone.

The moment the door was closed behind them, Gift swung her free hand hard across his face and Zenith who didn’t see it coming had no way to dodge, so he could only stare back at the shameless woman who had the guts to hit him before he could even say a word.

“Heartless bastard, why did you kill my baby?”she asked, her tone dripping with hatred and a urge to hit him again.

“You stupid woman, I did it to save you,”he said in his defense, still unable to comprehend what in the world just happened.

“Save me?” she scoffed, “what sort of husband doesn’t  know what his wife wants, you killed my child to save me, you liar and pretender.

Zenith couldn’t be more surprised but he recovered quickly.

“I could say the same about you, so stop pretending and tell me why you targeted that car to hit you. I already paid for the hospital bills, but don’t think I would let you go without getting a refund,” he said. He was never this petty, but he loathed spending money on people other than family which she was far from being.

“Just what type of husband are you? You might think that you can get rid of me now that I don’t remember everything, but I can’t leave you to maltreat our daughter like that, so whether you like it or not, I’m going home with you,” she looked at his shocked face with a smirk that read, “I bet you didn’t see that coming.”

“Home? I don’t even know you,” Zenith had never been this puzzled in his entire life as he watched her press the button by her bedside and the nurses cae in.

“I want to go home,” she said and they looked at themselves puzzled while telling her that she had to wait a little more, but she insisted and they were on their way home in the next hour.

He couldn’ bear it, but his sister had insisted on sitting with her, so from the rearview mirror, he watched as they both fell asleep in eachothers arms.

“Master Zenith, why don’t you tell her that she’s not your wife,” the driver said again, but he glared at him and said, “and whose fault is it that we are in this mess anyways?” he asked and the rest of the journey home was silent.

The pair at the back woke up before they got home and were chatting like they had known each other for a while, but Olvia was quickly exhausted by the time they got to their mansion and since it was a weekend, the house was devoid of any helps, so after helping his sister to her room, he dragged Gift by her wrist to the living room.

“We need to talk,” he said, but she was looking around the unfamiliar interiors of the massive living room and trying to find it in her memory.

“I have nothing to say to you, so tell  me you shameless husband, were you hoping  that I would die? Is that why you hid all our wedding pictures?” she asked as she got off the soft couch and walked towards the stairs, ‘where is our room, I need to change out of this dress,” Gift said as she went up the stairs in search of the master’s bedroom while Zenith stared at the back of the most crazy woman he had ever run into.

However, he had a lot of meetings to catch up on and decided to leave her for the meantime.
