Three- Bad Luck

7am.

My phone’s alarm rang. I want to snooze it, but my mind says no. “Another day to fight, Heather. Ugh.” I motivated myself, but my body feels heavy.

Before leaving for duty, I left a note in the fridge saying, “Going to work. I'll be late. -Heather” even if my aunt does not care.

I took a bus traveling to the workplace of Sophia. Around 0830H, I got a text from her saying, “Good morning, H! The deal's not off, right? He he I'll see you tonight!”

I replied, “On the bus right now. Going to your workplace. Yep. Don't forget my burger.”

Then I received $100 on my money app. I sighed, thinking about the bills and debts.

“When will I be free?” I thought to myself. I shake off the negative thoughts I am having and just think of other things.

After 20minutes, I have arrived. As always, the building where Sophia works at has the ability to intimidate you. Not only the building but the people too.

She works at “Alexander&Thomas INC.,” A well known holding company. Her office is on the 10th floor. Her job focuses more on writing reports regarding the economy's movement. Like the stocks and what's trending today. Something like that. It just so happens that we're in the same course during college, which somehow I know her work.

As I entered the building, I went straight to the receptionist area, and the staff were stiff. He stared at me with a smirk and his eyes feels like he's judging you. I approached him to ask for a limited pass and greeted him, “Hi, I am Heather Russell, temporary substitute of miss Sophia Maxwell of the planning department.”

He then typed my name on a laptop then he glanced at me scrutinizing, and he gave me the pass/ID. He's quite rude for a receptionist.

I ignored his behavior and said, “Thanks.” I turned around and walked towards the lift.

There were like 6 lifts in the building, I guess. Lots of employees including me, the substitute, were waiting for the doors to open. Then there was the sound of “ding”, the employees rushed in the lift, and I was not that prepared. I was bumped on my left arm and someone or maybe two people stepped on my foot. I winced. Likewise, I still got that enormous bruise on my left arm caused by my aunt. I have decided not to rush in, and I struggled to move backwards against the rushing crowd and that's the biggest mistake ever. Not only that, but I missed my footing. I was about to fall on that hard tiled floor, I decided to adjust my body, but the gravity will not let me. So, I closed my eyes, and I was prepared for the worst scenario, then I felt a strong and sturdy arm held my waist.

“Are you okay, miss?” a cold but manly voice spoke.

I find my balance and said, “Yes, I'm okay. Thank you.” I winced my left arm still hurt. As I looked on the face of my savior, I think I was rude to stare at his chiseled face, like someone just got out of a magazine. His powerful features make him look more masculine. It's unbelievable to see someone like him.

“Watch where you’re going next time.” said the man in the suit.

I scoffed hearing him said that. And I replied, “I am sorry, sir. But that was an accident. But I’ll take your advice next time.”

Then, I turned my back on him and saw one lift going up, so I rushed in. I tapped my card and press 10th floor. The door closes.

I let out a gigantic sigh and thought “What a rude guy.”

4pm.

Done with the report. I stretched a little but my left arm still in pain. I pulled up my left sleeve to check on my arm. No one’s looking. My bruise is still big and red. Then I pulled down my sleeve.

I messaged Sophia “Done. Where are you?”

With that, I waited for my friend’s call.
