7am.
My phone’s alarm rang. I want to snooze it, but my mind says no. “Another day to fight, Heather. Ugh.” I motivated myself, but my body feels heavy.
Before leaving for duty, I left a note in the fridge saying, “Going to work. I'll be late. -Heather” even if my aunt does not care.
I took a bus traveling to the workplace of Sophia. Around 0830H, I got a text from her saying, “Good morning, H! The deal's not off, right? He he I'll see you tonight!”
I replied, “On the bus right now. Going to your workplace. Yep. Don't forget my burger.”
Then I received $100 on my money app. I sighed, thinking about the bills and debts.
“When will I be free?” I thought to myself. I shake off the negative thoughts I am having and just think of other things.
After 20minutes, I have arrived. As always, the building where Sophia works at has the ability to intimidate you. Not only the building but the people too.
She works at “Alexander&Thomas INC.,” A well known holding company. Her office is on the 10th floor. Her job focuses more on writing reports regarding the economy's movement. Like the stocks and what's trending today. Something like that. It just so happens that we're in the same course during college, which somehow I know her work.
As I entered the building, I went straight to the receptionist area, and the staff were stiff. He stared at me with a smirk and his eyes feels like he's judging you. I approached him to ask for a limited pass and greeted him, “Hi, I am Heather Russell, temporary substitute of miss Sophia Maxwell of the planning department.”
He then typed my name on a laptop then he glanced at me scrutinizing, and he gave me the pass/ID. He's quite rude for a receptionist.
I ignored his behavior and said, “Thanks.” I turned around and walked towards the lift.
There were like 6 lifts in the building, I guess. Lots of employees including me, the substitute, were waiting for the doors to open. Then there was the sound of “ding”, the employees rushed in the lift, and I was not that prepared. I was bumped on my left arm and someone or maybe two people stepped on my foot. I winced. Likewise, I still got that enormous bruise on my left arm caused by my aunt. I have decided not to rush in, and I struggled to move backwards against the rushing crowd and that's the biggest mistake ever. Not only that, but I missed my footing. I was about to fall on that hard tiled floor, I decided to adjust my body, but the gravity will not let me. So, I closed my eyes, and I was prepared for the worst scenario, then I felt a strong and sturdy arm held my waist.
“Are you okay, miss?” a cold but manly voice spoke.
I find my balance and said, “Yes, I'm okay. Thank you.” I winced my left arm still hurt. As I looked on the face of my savior, I think I was rude to stare at his chiseled face, like someone just got out of a magazine. His powerful features make him look more masculine. It's unbelievable to see someone like him.
“Watch where you’re going next time.” said the man in the suit.
I scoffed hearing him said that. And I replied, “I am sorry, sir. But that was an accident. But I’ll take your advice next time.”
Then, I turned my back on him and saw one lift going up, so I rushed in. I tapped my card and press 10th floor. The door closes.
I let out a gigantic sigh and thought “What a rude guy.”4pm.Done with the report. I stretched a little but my left arm still in pain. I pulled up my left sleeve to check on my arm. No one’s looking. My bruise is still big and red. Then I pulled down my sleeve.
I messaged Sophia “Done. Where are you?”
With that, I waited for my friend’s call.
Sophia and I had dinner. She bought me a burger. I am so happy. I thanked her for the treat. She does not mind at all; she wanted to treat me more, but I said the meal was enough. We talked about many things during supper. And she shared something personal. She’s dating someone which she refers to as “commoner”. Sometimes I forgot that she’s super rich. I am always curious why she works in a company where she can do anything with her money. Like build a business on her own. Oh, well. And also she shared she was forced by her parents to a marriage. She does not want to. That’s why she went to the hospital telling her parents she’s not feeling well and needs some rest. And that’s the reason she called me for my help today at her office. She sought for my advice about her problem and I said nothing, but I asked her if she has no choice in her marriage or if she already talked it out with her parents. Sh
Thursday.I was in my room finishing my draft when I heard my aunt Rita’s shouting and smashing things downstairs. “Heather!! Where are you?” I stopped writing and went downstairs. She’s having another tantrum. I don't like this. “Aunt Rita! Stop!” I shouted when I saw that she’s throwing and breaking the plates and glasses!“YOU! WHAT DID YOU SAY?!”“I said stop. You’re breaking everything. You can get hurt!” I moved towards her.“Don't even try to come near me! You’re a bad luck! If I had not accepted you in this family, I would not be miserable!!! You ruined everything!!! You’re like my dead brother!! Stupid and useless! I should have abandoned you in the street! He promised to — “then she cried and break more things. She stopped while holding a plate, and she's still crying a
The morning breeze was chilly. I got up and close my window. The clouds were dark. I took a 2-day leave on my part-time jobs. I have to finish my draft today and send it within the day. Furthermore, I thought of going to my favorite café to write. For once, I want to treat myself a cup of hot chocolate while I write. I went nonetheless.I wore a black turtleneck sweater to hide the bruise on my neck and some comfy pants. Combed my loose curly long hair and bun it with a ribbon. And I'm done. I checked if my things are complete before I leave the house. Laptop, checked. Notebook, checked. Pencil, checked. Bag, checked. Purse, checked. I'm ready."I haven't seen my aunt since yesterday" I thought.I went outside and it was so chilly outside. Good thing I wore a sweater.Ten minutes later, I am inside my haven. The café looks rustic, and it's perfect for someone like me who needed
His thoughts.I drove somewhere far from the office. Then, I saw this little café that seems quiet. I parked my car and went in the little café called “Coffee Bloom House”. As I entered, I could smell coffee. It smells so wonderful. The place is tiny, but the interior is desirable.“Good morning, sir! “I was greeted by a tall and blonde guy on the cashier.“Hi. One Americano, tall. Thank you.” I looked on his nameplate. He’s called George.“That’s $2.50 sir.”I paid him the exact amount.“Thank you, for paying the exact amount. We’ll be serving your coffee in a moment. Please have a seat.” George smiled.I nodded at him once. While I searched around for a perfect spot, I saw a familiar face. Ah!
We are now at our hospital. She’s still unconscious. Someone knocked on the door. It's Annie. I let her in. Annie is my personal assistant, and she’s working with me for 5 years now. She’s 35 years old. She brought me two pairs of clothes.“Changed in this while I changed her clothes. I also brought you your coat.” She told me. She’s like an older sister to me.“Thanks, Annie.”I went to the washroom and changed clothes. I'm now wearing a white t shirt and grey joggers. And good thing Annie brought my winter cotton coat. I feel warm now.I went and asked for our family doctor who’s on duty and the one who checked on the lady. He’s my Uncle.“Uncle Louis, how's the patient?” I asked.“Hey, Alex. The lady is all safe. Just a minor concussion but nothing's serious. She may experience d
Her thoughts.I opened my eyes. My head is aching. I looked around. This is not my room. Wait, I know I was walking down the pedestrian, then there was a car — ugh, my head hurts.I breathe deeply. And told myself not to panic. You're okay, Heather. Relax.I'm in a gigantic room. Is this a hospital? My clothes are now different. It's kind of big, but warm. No one's here. Checked the time on the digital wall clock. It’s past six o’clock in the evening. I got up, whoa! I felt dizzy. Likewise, I noticed that my right elbow and right knee has plasters. Then, I tried looking for my things, the only that's familiar on that room was my purse on the table. It's wet. I opened the door, and I'm actually at the hospital. I rushed outside until I was out of the hospital. I feel super dizzy. I think I have a fever.I rode a taxicab and told him the flat address of Sophi
I have to go back to the hospital to retrieve my things, especially my laptop. But not today. I still have a commitment to do.Sophia and I were having our breakfast. And she told me again about the plan. This is the first time I had my breakfast without worrying about work. But thinking about sabotaging one's engagement party is insane.“How are you feeling?” She asked.“I'm great.” I lied. I feel feverish.“Okay. Oh! H! Aside from ruining my mother’s plan. I’m super excited to doll you up! I haven't seen you wear a dress. But today I’ll make you look like a princess!” Did I tell you that Sophia has a royal blood? That's how rich she is.“No. I'm good. Just don't mind me.”“You don't trust me?” She’s quite sad.“No! That's what not I meant. I just d
I found him! But I felt unwell and feverish. I unconsciously touched my forehead. Likewise, I staggered a little but found my balance.Alexander moves towards me and tried to help me stand up straight and asked me in his cold but beautiful low voice, “Hey, are you all right? Are you hurt somewhere?” He sounded concerned.“Yes, I'm fine. A little dizzy, but I'm good.” I without a second thought hold his arms for support.“I retract that, I don't feel well. Can you help me sit somewhere? Please.” My face almost touches his chest, but I tried not to. He smells great. Then he scooped me. Like my weight was nothing to him. I stared at him, shocked and puzzled. He sounded worried and annoyed.
