Rhea's POV

“That must have hurt.” I said quietly.

“It did more than hurt.” Grace’s eyes sharpened, “I told myself I’d moved on, but I hadn’t. I couldn't bear to see her happy with that man whom I had always loved and cherished. So I applied to be a servant in their house. Daniel allowed me too. It was very crazy to hear that a family as poor as them had a servant who was helping them out, while they were also working as servants. A lot of people criticised me for my actions, they called me stupid, foolish and all sorts of names. But I didn't care, I just wanted to be close to Daniel, to take care of him like I used to. It was when I started working there that I saw that Clara didn't love Daniel. She didn't even like him like she claimed. She was just a lazy bitch who wanted Daniel to do everything for her. She just wanted a man who would listen to her every order and she chose Daniel for it just because she disliked me!”

“She disliked you?”

“Yeah, she did. She admitted to i

Rhea’s Pov“What?”The word came out of him too fast, sharp with disbelief. Alaric stared at me like I’d just spoken in a language he didn’t recognize.I didn’t blink. I didn’t soften my expression. “Could you please repeat the question? I don't think I heard you clearly.” he asked, frowning now, clearly trying to understand what he’d just heard.“Are you getting married,” I said again, my voice steady, “to a woman named Justine?”For a moment, he just stood there. Then he let out a short, disbelieving laugh that died almost immediately. “What are you talking about?”His confusion wasn’t feigned. I could see it in the way his brows pulled together, in the way his shoulders tensed as though he were bracing for something he couldn’t see.“Rhea,” he said carefully, “did you fall asleep in the car and dream about me getting married or something? Because I genuinely don’t understand this question.”“You’re saying you’re not getting married,” I replied.“Of course I'm getting married. I’m s

Rhea's Poc The word felt like a physical blow, one that I hadn’t prepared for. I stared at Leon, my heart skipping a beat, though not for the reason he probably thought. "What? That’s… that’s a lie, Leon. That’s not possible. Alaric’s father and I don’t get along, sure, but Alaric would never let him dictate something like that."Leon didn’t offer a verbal rebuttal. Instead, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his phone. He tapped the screen a few times and slid it across the marble tabletop. I leaned in, my breath hitching as I watched the video playback. It was a live broadcast and the person on the video was Alaric’s father and he was standing behind a podium. He spoke of his son's upcoming engagement to a woman named Justine, the daughter of a Greek shipping magnate. I blinked multiple times, my eyes widening as I stared at the screen. My lower lips trembled. “I can't believe this," I whispered, my voice thick with a pitiful, fragile quality. "Leon, this has to be

Rhea's Pov The slow music of the restaurant made me close my eyes in enjoyment. It was quiet, amazing. The last few hours had been so hectic with the whole welcome banquet thing that was being planned for Laziel. Laziel had insisted that I had to be amongst one of the planners and despite his family's words, he didn't back down and so, I was one of the chief planners, is not the chief. It was so exhausting. And as for Alaric, he was still pretty much occupied with his company so I had go come out alone to have some quiet time. Just as I wanted to take another sip of my drink, a pair of hands, large and smelling faintly of cedarwood slid over my eyes. I froze. My heart slammed against my ribs and it made my breath hitch. My fingers cramped around my phone, my knuckles turning white."Who’s that?" I asked. My voice came out small. "Guess," a voice whispered near my ear. It was deep, smooth, and carried a playful lilt that I knew so well. I felt the tension drain out of my shoulders,

Rhea's Pov Alaric raised an eyebrow, a small, mischievous smirk playing on his lips despite the gravity of the situation. "And you, Nathan? I assume you had to look at these photos for... research purposes and not because you have a bunch of other thoughts in mind?" Nathan’s face turned a brilliant shade of crimson. "I had to! I spent three hours staring at those pictures, comparing them to the medical records I swiped from their respective doctor’s private server. I made such a sacrifice and what are the both of you talking about?!" I couldn't help it. A small laugh escaped me. "Three hours, Nathan? That’s a lot of time to spend looking at another man's body. I didn't know you were so... dedicated to a job like this? Very impressive." "I am fully straight, if that's what you're trying to imply!" Nathan snapped, though his blushing intensified. "I am not gay, I am not bi, I am just a very thorough investigator who now knows more about Jace’s anatomy than I ever cared to know."

Rhea's Pov "The moment word gets out that you've returned, Laziel, the gates won't just be opened, they will get torn down." Alaric said, stopping by the window to peer out at the sprawling estate. "People are predictable. Half of them will come trooping in here hoping to pledge an alliance they don’t mean, and the other half will be looking for a way to put a leash on you." He turned back to us. "But then there are the curious ones. And that is exactly where Nevaeh’s family must fall." I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees. "The engagement," I murmured. "It hasn't been officially dissolved, has it?" "Exactly," Alaric nodded. "On paper, Nevaeh is still the future matriarch of your house, Laziel, especially now that you're involved in this contest for who will become the new head. Since both of you went missing under such... 'mysterious circumstances, the marriage contract still remains. There is no way Neveah's family won't show up to inspect the boy who had come bac

Rhea's Pov Laziel stepped into the center of the room, his still growing body stood quite tall at this moment and it was undeniable that he had grown into a strong teen who was now capable of doing whatever he wanted. "Look at him," Laziel pointed back at Monte. "And then look at me. If you do not stand behind his words, if you do not agree that a liar should pick your next head, then he has no power to stop me. He has no right to bar me from the succession. I am a son of this house, returned from the grave to find my father’s honor being sold for scrap. I am claiming my right to challenge for the seat. The power lies in your hands to also select a ruler. You are all kingmakers here and no one has ever been left out. So, everyone, make your choice. Monte, or me.” The clan members weren't looking at Monte anymore; they were looking at Laziel. "He's right," a voice called out from the back. It was one of the younger men, a man whose face was mapped with scars. "We were told t
