Rhea's Pov

Howard flinched at my words, though he didn't back down, “Of course. Although I passed down the company to you, I still think you need a lot of things to learn, especially since you're not studying business but law. It would be hard for you to understand what's happening in the company.”

The corner of my lips twitched but I didn't reply to his jab. Who was it that forced me to study law when it was Business I actually wanted to study. He had let Ginny take my place while I had to study whatever they wanted me to. Even in my past life, I had barely graduated despite keeping my grades straight for almost my whole duration at the university. It was after Kevin had agreed to date me that my grades began to spiral out of control. In the end, I didn't even use what I studied to look for work.

“You don't need to worry too much about me, I have gotten the hang of it already. I would appreciate it if you trust me.” I smiled at him, then leaned back, “While I was going through som

Alaric's Pov I clenched my fists against my phone, my heart was trembling. “Alaric! What happened?! What was that?!” Laziel’s voice cut through the fog of my panic, sharp and insistent. He was suddenly right in front of me, grabbing my shoulders, his face pale with alarm, “Where is she?! What did you hear?!”I looked at him, my breath catching in my throat. My mouth opened, but no words came out. The scream still echoed in my ears, a chilling testament to Rhea’s sudden, horrifying peril. I could only shake my head, a profound, gut-wrenching dread washing over me.“She… she was… they… they found her…” I stammered, the words barely coherent, “There was a crash… a killer… and then… she screamed, Laziel. She screamed.” The last word was a whisper, laced with an agony I hadn’t known myself capable of.Laziel’s grip on my shoulders tightened, his knuckles white. His face, usually so composed, was contorted with a mixture of shock and fury, “Who found her? Who are ‘they’?! What did she say

Alaric's Pov Xander thought about it for a minute. His eyes, which had held so much anger for so long, now seemed to hold a flicker of something new, perhaps hope, or at least a genuine consideration of a different path.“I… I’ll do it.” He said, his voice still a little hoarse, but with a newfound conviction, “I’ll ally with you, Alaric. I choose you.”A slow, satisfied smile spread across my face, “A good decision, Xander. You won’t regret it. I’ll make sure of that.” I watched as a faint blush touched his cheeks at my words, a subtle shift in the dynamic between us, “Now, get some more rest. You won’t be able to rest for as long as you want soon enough.”As I turned to leave, my hand already on the doorknob, Xander’s voice stopped me, “Wait! What do you mean by that?!”I paused, turning my head just enough to offer him a knowing smile, one that I hoped conveyed both amusement and a hint of the chaos to come. I didn't say another word, just closed the door softly, leaving him to po

Alaric's Pov “You don’t dislike me. You just want me and everyone around to notice you, don’t you?” I turned around to face him, seeing the shock in his eyes. I smiled. “I actually wouldn’t have known if my wife hadn’t met you that day and told me what she saw in you. She was the one who saved you, and she was the one who asked me to give you a chance. If it were just me, I wouldn’t care about you.”“Your wife? You mean… Rhea Thorne?”“Mhm,” I nodded.“I don’t get it. She doesn’t know me, so how did she… No, wait, she was the one who saved me from that accident?! Why didn’t you say anything? How is she? Is she hurt?!”I raised an eyebrow at how quickly Xander’s mood changed. Then I remembered, “Oh… I didn’t tell you?”“You didn’t say a thing!”Xander’s voice rose, a mix of disbelief and worry. He pushed himself up a little higher in the bed, wincing slightly, “I can’t believe you kept that from me! All this time, I thought… I thought it was some random stranger. Rhea? The accident wa

Alaric's Pov “DRIT Inc has faced charges regarding selling illegal information, stealing public money, among other things, and will be shut down for a long time. DRIT is a part of the second-largest company, R&D, run by Richard Vale. But because of this problem, Richard Vale has announced that DRIT has been cut off from R&D, and all charges will be handled only by DRIT Inc’s Chairman, Nelson Kugert. R&D has lost one of its biggest parts and has dropped to number seven on the list of most successful companies in the country, while Vale Inc stays at number one. In other news…”I grinned as I turned off the TV and walked into Xander’s room. He had been back home for three days now, and even though he was still stuck in bed, he was clearly getting better. He had also been watching the news, and I could see the excitement in his eyes.“Aren’t you worried he’ll come after you?” Xander asked me as I fully entered the room, his eyes still on the television.“It’s only a matter of time. I’m n

Rhea's Pov Ginny’s words were clipped, forced out as if each syllable caused her physical pain. Howard and Rachel exchanged a quick, almost imperceptible glance, a flash of relief mingled with what looked like a calculating triumph. “A wise decision, Ginny.” I said, my voice smooth as silk, a stark contrast to the acid churning in my gut, “I commend your newfound pragmatism.” My smile didn't reach my eyes, “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have urgent matters to attend to. My vacation plans, among other things, require my immediate attention.”I turned, a dismissive flick of my wrist signaling the end of our little family drama. But before I could take a step, a cool, clammy hand clamped around my wrist. It was Ginny’s. Her grip was surprisingly strong, almost desperate.“Wait,” She rasped, her voice barely above a whisper, “Rhea… if I… if I work hard. If I prove myself… will I… will I have a chance? A chance to become the head of the company later or… Or even your personal assistant?” H

Rhea's Pov I turned my gaze slowly from Ginny, who was now trembling with a mixture of rage and humiliation, to my dear father. My smile, though outwardly serene, felt like a predatory baring of teeth. “Family?” I echoed, the word dripping with sarcasm. “Is that what we’re calling it now, Howard? Because for years, what I experienced was not ‘family.’ It was a carefully orchestrated charade where I was the convenient scapegoat, the forgotten child, the one whose dreams were casually discarded to make way for her.” My eyes flicked to Ginny, who recoiled as if struck. “Let’s be brutally honest, shall we? When I expressed my desire to study business, a field I actually had an aptitude for and, dare I say, a passion for, who was it that insisted I pursue law? Oh, right, you.” I pointed a finger at Howard, “You, who claimed it was for my own good, for my future, all while letting her,” I gestured vaguely at Ginny, “Waltz into whatever she pleased. You let her prance around, indulging e
