Rhea's Pov

His lips parted, but no words came.

“I’ll tell you what.” I continued, my tone turning cool and razor-sharp, “I promise you all who are resigning from this place today, in my honour, that in just a few days, I’ll make sure every single person here is fixed up in a position far better than this place. And it won’t matter what little phone calls you make or whose ear you try to whisper in because you’ll be the one with no credibility left.”

I turned my attention to the others, my voice softening just enough, “Go. Prepare your things. I’ll handle the rest.”

“Thank you so much Miss Rhea. It's because of you that we were able to have the opportunity to work here in the first place. We will never betray you."

“It's no problem. Even if you chose to continue working here, I wouldn't blame you. One has to make money after all. Go on, Fiona will address you all later.” I smiled, gesturing for them to go and process their resignation. After they left, I turned to face the remaining p

Rhea's Pov I felt a cold shiver run down my spine as I listened to the depth of Sally’s depravity. "She threatened him? With what?" Maria’s voice shook, her fingers plucking nervously at the silk of her scarf. "Beatrice was more like her mother than we ever realized. She lacked Hillary’s light, but she possessed all of Sally’s cunning. Before we even knew Hillary and Neveah were truly gone, Beatrice had already moved. She drugged Marcello.” She looked at James, who was staring off into the distance, his eyes unfocused. "She staged a scene, got herself pregnant, and then threatened to make my son a scapegoat. She told him that if he didn't marry her and give her child the Morrieti name, she would kill Hillary and blame him for it, just as he ‘killed’ his ex wives. And Sally... Sally played her part perfectly. She sat Marcello down and looked him in the eye with a mother's feigned grief. She told him that she had hidden Hillary away to 'protect' her from his 'curse.' She told him th

Rhea's Pov Maria nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears that seemed to hold decades of grief. "That is exactly what she did. Hillary grew up under so much maltreatment from her parents, especially from Sally. She was treated even worse than a servant in her own home. In the eyes of the world, the Taylors were a respectable family, but behind those closed doors, Hillary was not a human to them. She was forced to work, to hide when guests arrived, to be invisible. But despite all that, Hillary never became a dark person." A small, sad smile touched Maria's lips. It was a look of pure love. "She was the light itself. Anywhere she went, people loved her. She had this way of making everyone feel seen, even though she had been ignored her entire life. It was only her mother who refused to see the lovely child she had given birth to. Sally looked at her and saw a crime, but everyone else saw love from that child." I thought of Neveah, sitting in the car behind me. She was so much l

Rhea's Pov I stepped closer to the car door, shielding Neveah from their view, even if they couldn't see her. "How do you know my daughter's name? Who the hell are you people?"The older man shifted his weight on his walking stick. He looked at me with a mix of sadness and another emotion that looked like pride."We have missed a great deal of her life," he said quietly. I gripped the handle of the car door behind me. "I will ask you one more time," I said, my voice cold and sharp. "Who are you? And why did you chase me down?” The woman took a slow step forward. She didn't look offended by my tone. She looked like she expected it."My name is Maria Morrieti," she said. She stood tall, her eyes fixed on mine. "I am Neveah’s grandmother. And this man beside me is her grandfather, James Morrieti.” The world seemed to go quiet for a second. Morrieti. I knew that name from the deep files Alaric had shown me. They weren't just nobility; they were a power that rivaled even the Millers in

Rhea's Pov I hung up the phone and tossed it onto the phone holder. "Stupid," I hissed under my breath. "He really thinks he's winning. He really thinks I'm that weak to want to depend on someone like him. What a foolish man." I looked at Neveah in the rearview mirror. She was looking out the window, swinging her legs. "Put your seatbelt on, baby," I said. "We have to go." "Are we going back home?" she asked, pulling the strap across her chest. "Yes, baby. We don't have anything else to do out here.” I started the car and drove out of the parking lot. I wasn't going to meet Leon anywhere. I turned onto the main road. The traffic was light. I was driving for about five minutes when Neveah leaned forward. "Mommy?" "Yes, baby?" "That black car is playing follow the leader," she said in her sweet, childish voice. "It went into the left lane when you did. And now it's back in the right lane with us." My heart stopped for a second. I looked at the side mirror. A black SUV with tin

Rhea's Pov I stared at the DNA report in my hands, holding them tightly, even almost crumpling the paper. I wasn't just going to let them give me a test and push it as true without me doing a test of my own. I wasn't that naive. I had conducted my own silent investigation after I had gotten their test reports. I had personally cut the hair samples. I had taken the saliva swabs and even the fingernail clippings from Julian when I was "comforting" him at the hospital. I had kept those samples in my own possession, locked in a safe-box that never left my sight until I handed them over to Nathan. Nathan was the only one I trusted with this. I didn't even tell anyone the name of the secondary hospital I used. Nathan had delivered the samples under a pseudonym, ensuring that no one, not even the lab technicians, knew whose blood they were handling. There was absolutely no way they could have tampered with these results, and yet, the results were identical. The report in my hand was the

Rhea's Pov. I turned on my heel, but I didn't make it two steps before Alaric’s hand shot out. He caught my wrist, his grip firm but careful, and pulled me back into his chest. His arms wrapped around me. "Let go, Alaric," I hissed, my body vibrating with anger. "Did you see that? Did you see the board? The way he looked at those photos?""I saw it, Rhea," he murmured against my hair, his voice low. "He’s creepy!" I shouted, finally slamming my open palms against the marble island with a sound that echoed through the kitchen. "He’s been stalking me! He stole my handkerchief, Alaric! He was... he was sniffing it like some kind of sick animal." Alaric didn't let go. Instead, he began to slowly pat my back, a rhythmic, calming motion that felt at odds with the storm inside me. "I know. I know it’s revolting. But you need to breathe. Look at me, Rhea."I pulled back just enough to see his face. His eyes were dark, filled with a cold, calculated intensity."Calm your anger just for a
