Rhea's POV

Hours passed, but it felt like days. My body still buzzed with tension, like a thousand invisible threads stretched taut under my skin, ready to snap at the smallest tug. I kept pacing the room, checking the windows again and again, locking them twice, sometimes three times, even though I knew they were already secured. I had pulled down every curtain, turned on every light. The entire house was very warm but I could not stop shivering.

I kept glancing at the drawing on the desk, the ring, the strange serpent eating its own tail, the eerie runes around it. It was haunting me and no matter how much I tried to remember, nothing came.

I must’ve checked the front of the house a dozen times. Still no one. Still no sign of him.

My phone was gone. My only way to contact the outside world. My laptop was working, but the Wi-Fi suddenly refused to connect. It was like someone had deliberately cut me off.
