Chapter 59

The cafeteria was like a stereotypical jail-style cafeteria. Officers stood around while the inmates on kitchen duty served the rest of us on a plastic plate. It smelled of dirty cooking oil and rotting food that was stuck between the planks of the tables. Whoever was on cleaning duty never cared enough to clean properly, but heck, we were in jail. No one puts in that much effort. Everything was given the bare minimum.

Klip and I grabbed our plates and stood in line, a spoonful of what looked like vomit piling onto the plate. Boiled cabbage stew first, then rice on top. I glared at the inmate serving me, and he quickly stood up straight and apologised. Fuck, who added rice last, this fucking idiot? I rolled my eyes and walked over to the table closest to the door.

"Uh, Jay isn’t this…" Klip asked behind me but decided to rather shut up as I sat down.

He hesitated but sat down next to me as well. I mixed the rice and stew together, then glanced up as footsteps approached. Donnie stoppe
