Asked for some time

Writer’s POV:-

“My baby sis had to cry herself to sleep. I’m really sorry for being late last night, my dear.” He mumbled slowly, softly smoothing the frowns that had arisen on her forehead a few seconds ago.

As he sat there, gazing at his sister’s peaceful yet troubled expression, Hunter felt a surge of helplessness. His two pillars of strength, Jenny and Natasha, lay vulnerable before him.

Last night had been long and agonizing for him. He was out till very late as the urgent work took quite some hours. Then, when he had returned finally, he found Natasha asleep in a chair, her body angled towards Jenny’s bed, with her torso was bent over the bed uncomfortably. Her hands clutched the sheet covering Jenny. She looked scared and weak.

The sight had made him sigh helplessly, but what caught most of his attention was her tear-stricken cheeks. She must have cried herself to sleep, her face was smeared with dried tears. The sight of her waiting for him and crying all alone before falling
