[ Olivia ]

“Ma’am, we advise you to take Mrs. Scott home and take care of her as long as she lives. The treatment isn’t working on her anymore. She is getting weaker with every day. We’re sorry, but we did our best.” Doctor’s words shattered all my hopes.

Tears brimmed in my eyes but I held them back. I had been hearing the same negative response from them for last three years.

“Can I see her now?” I asked him trying to sound normal.

“Sure, she is resting now.” Doctor said.

With a heavy heart, I left doctor’s office and made my way to my mother’s ward. She had been hospitalized for two weeks. It was becoming hard for me to take care of her and her business.

After paying a visit to my mother, I made my way back home. My eyes blankly stared at my phone’s screen. I received no calls or messages from my husband. Another day was about to end but I didn’t expect him to forget my birthday.

It had been like this for past few months. We saw each other less and less. Work is our excuse to avoid coming across each other. He mostly goes on work trips but the rumors follow him like a phantom and eventually reach to my ears.

He meets Vivienne Fisher. They had been spotted together often and deep down I knew that they weren’t just mere rumours but a harsh reality gradually crawling its way to me.

When I reached at our home which feels haunted, I saw a red car parked outside which caught my attention. It wasn’t ours.

“Whose car is this?” I asked the watchmen.

“Ma’am, Mr. Hamilton is home with a friend. The car is hers.” One of them replied and my ears perked up.

My heart felt the same uneasiness but I ignored it and made my way inside. I smelled his expensive perfume lingering in the air.

He was home after three weeks.

My mood turned sour and blood ran cold when I saw Vivienne sitting on the sofa with a drink. Her eyes met mine and they darkened.

“What are you doing here, Miss Fisher?” I asked her straight, there was no tenderness in my tone for her.

“I don’t think I need your permission to come here. Don’t forget your place, Olivia. I am Stephan’s best friend and I can come here whenever I wish.” She answered with malice in her words.

Our enmity was never hidden from Stephan or anyone.

“But this is not only his house, it’s mine too and I want you gone right now.” I emphasized on my last two words.

“Olivia, I think this is very rude to insult guests.” Stephan’s deep voice forced me to divert my gaze from Vivienne to him.

He was staring at me without any warmth. There was only coldness and it all began when she re-entered in his life.

“Welcome back home, Stephan. I didn’t know that you were coming back today.” I ignored his earlier remark.

“My trip was cut short because Vivienne’s father fell sick. He is admitted in the hospital and it was too late for Vivienne to go to her condo so I invited her to stay here for the night.” He replied.

My heart clenched. He returned after three weeks for his best friend’s father. He never asked me about my mother and how I was taking care of her.

“I am going to my room.” I said and looked away to hide my tears. I walked past him and with quick strands, I made my way to my room.

I had been enduring his coldness for almost a year. I married him for the last wish of his grandfather but Stephan thought I was behind his money and status. It was the reason that he never revealed our marital status to the world.

I thought with passing time, he’d change and see my efforts and my love to save our marriage even though it was just a compromise for him but I realized that I wasted two years of my life for nothing.

“I can’t do this anymore.” I murmured to myself and wiped my tears.

I grabbed my old apartment’s keys and stormed my way out of my room. There was no way that I’d stay in the same house as Vivienne.

“Where do you think you are going at this hour, Olivia?” Stephan asked me with a raised brow.

“I will be staying at my house for tonight. I have an early meeting and I have to prepare for the presentation. I need a quiet place to focus.” I answered in the same flat tone.

His brows twitched.

“No one is bothering you here, Olivia and it’s past ten. Your house is on the other end of the city.” He reasoned. He was right but he couldn’t see my pain.

“It’s alright, I can manage like I always do. Good night. Please, take rest. It must be a long journey for you and Miss Fisher. I won’t bother you more.” I said and walked past him.

My tears finally spilled as I drove out of there.

Once I reached at my old house, I broke down and cursed the day when I agreed to marry a cold-hearted man like Stephan Hamilton.

I cried until there was no tears left but the voidness was the same, deep and painful. I took a shower and about to retire to my room when the doorbell rang.

It was around midnight and my heart hammered against my chest. Who would come at this time and how did someone know that I was there?

With an alerted senses, I opened the door and found Stephan standing at the door. He was in the same clothes.

“What are you doing here at this time?” I asked him because it was totally unexpected.

He ignored my question and walked inside. I followed him. He turned around to face me.

“Why did you leave our house like an impulsive teenager?” He asked me. There was annoyance in his tone.

“I didn’t want to be an intruder when you have your friend staying at the house. She doesn’t like me and the feelings are mutual from my side.” I gave him an honest answer.

“She doesn’t hate you, it’s your impulsiveness which causes problem between you and her.” He said.

He still believed that I was insecure of his sincere friend.

“You can go back home now, Stephan. It’s quite late.” I said looking away.

There was awkward silence between us for a moment.

He forwarded a gift box to me.

“Happy birthday, Olivia.”

I was shocked because for the first time in two years, he brought a gift for me and wished me.

[ Olivia ]My sour mood lightened up when I spotted my husband waiting outside a famous wedding dress designer’s boutique. I had no heart to tell him that had happened earlier because he seemed very eager and serious about our wedding.“So, we’re actually marrying each other again?” I asked with a coy smile.“Yes, my love. I told you that I want to see you as my bride again and this time we’ll exchange our true vows.” He kissed my cheek.I blushed because he had never showed his affection publicly and it was the first time when he didn’t hesitate to flaunt me as his wife.“I can’t wait to try a wedding gown.” I clapped my hands in excitement.“I want you to look like my queen and the queen deserves the best.” He snaked his arm around my waist and led me inside the boutique.I wore a simple gown picked by his mother during my first wedding. At that time, I was too nervous and scared to even raise my voice and faced backlash from his high class society. It was their plan.“Good afternoo

[ Olivia ]“June, I think we have bought enough which will last since the last day of my pregnancy. I don’t like spending money unnecessarily.” I said looking at the countless bags that my bodyguards were holding for me.My old clothes were fitting me so June took me for shopping. Of course, in the mall where Stephen’s security approved.“Come on, Liv. You are a rich wife and your husband wouldn’t mind if you spend a million dollars treating yourself as his queen.” June winked at me.“Yes, he won’t mind at all but I don’t like using his money when I really don’t need it. I know what value every single penny held for me and how I used to cut in my expenses to give a good life to Emma. There are millions of people who doesn’t even get two meals in a day.” I stated.“Let’s eat something then. I am not like you, Olivia. I am a rich wife’s best friend and you are going to treat me in an expensive restaurant.” She grinned and I shook my head.“Alright, let’s go to the food court first becau

[ Olivia ]“You look very calm today unlike the other days?” I combed my husband’s hairs who was laying his head on my lap. He closed his eyes but I didn’t see the creases of worry on his face after a very long time.“I found out the culprit.”My hand stopped brushing his hairs.“You did? Who is the person?” I asked though, I was sure that it was either Vivienne or his father.“Lucas Fisher, he framed me so I could give up and accept his psychopath daughter.” He told me and it made sense because Vivienne learnt it from him.“What are you going to do now? Will you sue him or do you have something else in your mind?” I asked him.He finally opened his eyes and sat up straight.“I have his balls in my control now. You know me. I always keep my friends and my enemies in my control. Everyone has their own dark secrets and Lucas Fisher’s life is full of darkness.” He smiled in confidence and I knew he was up to something.“I trust you, Stephen but I am also worried for you. Lucas Fisher and

[ Stephen ]“What did you get by defaming me, Mr. Fisher? I don’t see any result. In fact, my wife believes me and she is angrier than me. Advise your daughter not to come in front of Olivia or I don’t know what my wife is going to do with her.” I smirked seeing the dark face of Lucas Fisher.“Really? Your wife never had that in her.” He chuckled.“Don’t underestimate a wounded wife, Lucas. Anyways, I am surprised that you could step this low to make your daughter look like a wh*re. She slept with me for the world means she willingly went with me. I didn’t force her. So, it’s mutual damage unless you don’t have any dignity in your flesh.”I tried to hit where it pains the most, his pride.“You will come begging me and my daughter in less than two weeks’ time. This is my challenge.” His lips pressed together.I arched my brow.“Is this a challenge?”“No, the fact. You won’t have any option left with you. You must have to accept Vivienne in the end. I always fulfil my daughter’s wish.”

[ Stephen ]“Stephen, she is a fraud, a criminal and you are offering her fifty thousand dollars? No way!” Brandon jumped from of his seat as soon as he heard my offer to Judy.“Fifty thousand? You mean you’ll pay me such big amount to tell you the name of the person who hired me to drug you?” Judy’s eyes went wide.“You heard me right but no tricks. I only want to hear truth from you, Miss Ross.” I said in a crystal clear tone so there’d be no place for any deception.“Come on, Steph. How can you trust a woman like her? She’ll change her statement in the court and blackmail you for the rest of your life. This is a crazy idea. We should hand her over to the police.” Brandon again cut me in middle.“She won’t because her grandmother only has her. Her medical bills are too expensive for her to pay every month. You were asking why she still live in a shabby place, here’s your answer.” I said and Judy’s eyes snapped at me.“How did you know about my grandma’s illness?” She asked.“I know

[ Stephen ]“Did we really have to come here? I mean you could hire someone to do this job. We’re looking like some cheap tricksters from sixties.” Brandon scowled at me.“I want to meet her in person and know who bribed her to drug my drink, Brand. If you don’t feel like doing this, you may go back.” I said as we walked through shady streets. He was right, I never came to this side of the city before. In fact, I didn’t even know that place even existed. Criminals and shabby people could be seen around, especially the drunkards.I had disguised myself properly so we’d not be caught otherwise they’d attack us for some cash.“I don’t understand if she took money from Vivienne, then why is she still living in such dangerous place. She must be a millionaire now?”“She knows that no one would come here to hunt her but here we are. Now, let’s start looking for her. The address shows this lane.” I said and we walked steadily through a narrow lane where small houses were lined up and kids pla
