RUSSELL’S POV

Asher asked a very unimaginable question. I couldn’t believe that he could ask such a thing.

“Answer me, father. Do you hate me?” His question returned, but I still didn’t have any answer to give to him.

“You cannot look me in the eyes. You think that I am the worst thing that has happened to you.”

I turned slowly to see tears in his eyes, but he had managed to hold them back while he clenched his fists.

Asher always did that whenever he was upset, but never had I seen him clench

  • CHECKMATE MY ICY HEART: FALLING FOR THE HOCKEY CAPTAIN   Chapter 61

CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE HARPER’S POV Everything was going well until that lady arrived. I knew that Caspian wasn’t himself, but I wasn’t about to make things easier for him, knowing fully that he was guilty of whatever was making him nervous at that moment. Severally, he looked at me, probably to see if I was upset, but he couldn’t even get to keep eye contact with me for more than a few seconds. I realized that the lady was someone he must have done some nasty stuff with in the past. “Is she the reason why you refused to take my calls and reply to my messages?” The lady asked rudely, but I chose to ignore her demeanor, hoping that Caspian was going to be man enough to speak up. “Gina? I need you to leave, okay? This is not the right time and place.” Caspian finally spoke up, but for some reason the lady scoffed at his words. “You don’t even remember my name. Gosh! You are such a horrible person, and I wonder how many girls you have been with. You promised that you were going to call

  • CHECKMATE MY ICY HEART: FALLING FOR THE HOCKEY CAPTAIN   Chapter 60

CHAPTER SIXTY ASHER’S POV I couldn’t remember the last time I had gone the extra Mile just to please a woman, but it seemed like I was doing the exact thing I never imagined myself to be doing, especially at that very point in my life. Diana had given me a reason to go the extra mile, and I really hoped that it was going to be worth the stress. I spent the previous night thinking about what I was going to do to make her mine. Of course, I knew that I had a strong competition ever since I saw her with her boss the first time, but I was not about to give up on what was going to make me one of the most powerful men in the city and beyond. My plans were set in motion. First, I had to make a reservation at the restaurant, and second I had to make sure that my outfit was spotless. I remember the way the lady at the floral shop was looking at me. She had seen me pass several times, and never had I made any move to go inside. “She must be very special.” She said, a radiant smile slowly

CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE CASPIAN’ POV Never would I have imagined that I was going to stay more than a month without being able to get Diana to give me to herself. We had not even been able to figure out what we wanted from each other. At first, I thought that it was only going to take a few days or maybe a week before she would warm up to me, but wasn’t the case. It should have dawned on me that she was going to give me a tough time the very day we arrived at the mansion, but I still kept my hopes high. The realization that I was in for so much more than I expected gave me sleepless nights, but I wasn’t ready to give up, not when there was a lot at stake. CEO Asher was on my neck to give him some positive results, but each time he called, I kept on giving him excuses that he didn’t think were valid. I knew that he always considered himself better than I was, but I was almost beginning to think that he was right. Maybe he would have been able to win the princess over if she had chose

CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT HARPER’S POV I had to turn around quickly to see things for myself. How could such a woman be able to give birth to someone like Fred? He saw the doubt written all over my face, and instead of him explaining things, he started to laugh at me. “What’s funny? This isn’t supposed to be funny, Fred. How is she your sister?” I gave him a look that showed that I didn’t believe him. “Why did you refer to her by her name if she is your mother? You both don’t even look alike.” “That’s not true, Diana. Take a look.” Fred pointed at the lady while I turned to look at her. He was right, they certainly shared some similarities like their skin color, and the shape of their faces. “You are right, but I don’t think she is your mother. If she is your mother, why did you call…” “Because I just got to find out who she is.” Fred cut me off, and I listened to hear more of the story that seemed to be getting more interesting. From the look on his face, the story behind their rel

CHAPTER FIFTY-SEVEN HARPER’S POV I wasn’t quick enough to get a grip on myself, and that made the man a little bit suspicious even though I shook hands with him with a pretty smile on my face. “Are you okay?” He asked. He could tell that I was not myself entirely. But how could he know that I was overwhelmed by the whole thing that was happening so fast for me to know how to handle it? Not only were people still staring at me, but I could still see some of their mouths moving, indicating from their body language and eye contact that they were gossiping about me. I waited until Fred and I were alone before I moved closer to him. “Why didn’t you tell me about this? I didn’t even know that you were married!” I tried as much as I could to keep my voice down while I followed Fred to a corner of the hall. He pretended like everything was alright. “You will mess things up, Diana. I promise to explain everything to you in no time.” He whispered, but I wasn’t satisfied with that respons

HARPER’S POV I tried as much as possible to avoid the eyes that were flashing at me from several corners. Everyone was surprised for the second time to see the CEO walking out of the building with me. It appeared that he was smiling which was unlike him from what I could understand. Not only was he walking side by side with an employee, but he was leaving with her when it was just barely an hour after work resumption. Even the blind could see that there was something more than the ordinary going on. Without saying a word, I struggled with my steps until we finally got into the car where I heaved a heavy sigh of relief as though a heavy sigh of relief had left me. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?” He asked and I nodded, but that wasn’t entirely the truth. Everywhere suddenly became hot, and I needed to cool off. I had to release two buttons from my shirt while I rested my back on the car seat. “You shouldn’t be worried about what those guys will say or do, Diana. I own the company, a
