NINE~

DERA.

I spent the rest of the day in bed that was until Someone started ringing the doorbell. Ope was still around and she went to answer the door and about few minutes later she comes up to my room. Telling me Some Woman wanted to see Damilayo and it was important. At first I thought it was Damilayo's  Secretary, I always forget her name. But when I managed to get downstairs With Ope's help, I see it's not His Secretary instead I'm staring at a tall slim woman. She was dark in complexion and had the kind of body I would kill for. She didn't have any makeup on and though her few pimples were visible she still looked beautiful. She had on a Pixie short Wig along with a plain blue dress that hugged her frame perfectly. She looked simple and sexy while I looked like a typical housewife. Since I was in one of my many short butterfly house dresses and my go-to Wig. By that I mean my straight Long wig that I know no matter what I looked good in it.

She looked older than I was about Damilayo's age or maybe even a year or two younger than he was but she was definitely older than me.

I finally meet her eyes after analysing her.

"Please take a Seat." I offer Politely and she nods giving me a small smile while fiddling with her fingers. I could instantly tell she was Nervous but why? I didn't know.

Her eyes kept trailing back to the Staircase.

"Is Christian coming?"

I frown when she uses his middle name since it was foreign to me.

"You mean Damilayo?" I ask just to be sure and she nods muttering a 'Yes'

"Damilayo isn't at home. He's at work but you can leave a message For him."

She shakes her head letting out a shaky breath.

"No no. I have to talk to him person. I can't go to his Office." She tells me and I become worried when I see her glassy eyes. She looked like she was about to cry but she was holding back.

"Who are you? His Girlfriend?" She asked eyeing me and I didn't miss the Aversion in her voice or the way she looked at me in disgust.

"No, I'm not his Girlfriend. I'm His Wife." I state feeling the need to point out I'm more than a Girlfriend. So I wave my left hand in her face so she saw the Marriage Band.

Her expression morphs into shock. "Christian is Married?" She mutters. "I should go. This was a mistake, please don't tell him I came here." She picks up her purse and hurriedly starts for the door.

I frown as I got up on my feets. "Wait. At least tell me your name." I call after her and she stops at the Doorway.

"Trisha." She says and scurried out of the house. I limp my way out of the house. I don't know what my mission was But I stopped outside the Gate, I came just in time to see her hurriedly get into a red Camry.

" Dera what are you doing out here?" A very Familiar voice calls and I turn to see Damilayo stepping out of his Car making his way towards me.

I ignore him pointing at the red Camry that was driving off.

"There was Someone she was looking for you." I tell him watching the Car zoom out of our sights.

"Why would you come outside barefooted? Shit. You're bleeding." I hear him say and I narrow my eyes to my wounded foot that was bandaged. I was indeed bleeding again and I didn't even realise. The white bandage was now stained with red.

"You must have popped a stitch or something. C'mon let's go to The hospital."

"I'm fine. Let's go after that car. I want to know who that Woman is." I say adamantly meeting his eyes.

"What is wrong with you? You're injured and you want to pursue a car. Are you Mad? You don't know this is Lagos abi?" He picks me up with ease taking me the Passenger side of the car. I pull the door open and he places me in the car then buckles the seatbelt.

I watch as he walks around the front of the car to the drivers side.

"Why were you outside and barefooted for that matter?"

He asked as he starts to drive.

I frown hating the way he treated me like a Kid. But then again, He does look really worried. Was he just putting on the good husband act or was he being Genuine. I shake my head trying to get rid of the thought.

"A woman came looking for you. She said it was urgent and I told her you weren't home but at work. I even offered to deliver her message but she just left hurriedly. She seemed..." I trail off searching for the right word to use.

"Odd." I conclude. I tilt my head to the side watching Damilayo.

He had a small frown on his face and it was almost not evident but the way his forehead furrowed it proved he found it odd too.

"Did she mention anything about why she came? A part of it maybe." He asked and I shook my head silently giving him a No.

"And her name. Did she say who she was?"

"Trisha." I tell him and his whole being tenses up immediately. I watched as he zoned out. I even called his name more than once but he seemed totally gone.

It made me wonder who this woman was that just her name left Damilayo completely out of it.

We take the turn to the hospital road and I see an elderly man crossing the road. I don't think Damilayo sees him because he almost hits the man.

"Dami!" I exclaim and he hits the breaks. I grip his arm jerking forward luckily the seatbelt stops me from hitting the dashboard.

"Are you okay?" He asked and I nod opening my mouth to speak but he beats me to it.

"Wait here. Do not leave the car." He orders getting out of the car to check up on the old man who had fallen down from shock.

Damilayo was apologising to the Old man, i presumed and I watch as some people gather mostly Boys. Their voices were muffled and there wasn't much distance from where Dami was being surrounded by strangers so I'm guessing this car is somehow sound proof but from the look of things it seemed Damilayo could get into trouble with these street boys. I have never encountered any of these Lagos street boys but Seyifunmi always mentioned how crazy they can be and I feared they would harm Damilayo. One of the boys roughly shove Damilayo and I could see that Damilayo was finding it hard to keep his cool. I just hope he manages to resolve the matter but I was wrong because the minute one of the guys dents the car with what I think is a spanner, Damilayo grabs him by the shirt.

I know Damilayo said not to leave the car but I felt like I needed to intervene.

I ransack the car for any money luckily I found a bundle of new five hundred naira notes and I grab them making my way out of the car. It's not until my feets hit the wet dirty ground that the pain shoots up my leg and I wince ignoring it and going to the crowd that now gathered around my husband.

I give the old man half of the bundle apologising frantically and he just thanks me and blesses me.

I go to Damilayo and I had to plead with the boys not to cause harm to him. I don't know if Damilayo can fight though he looks like he can do more than fight but I don't think he can handle it if all the boys come at him at once.

I even had to pay the street boys off so they leave us alone. Damilayo was furious and I could tell.

"I told you to stay in the Car." He says harshly but I really didn't car about that.

"Are you okay? Are you alright?" I ask instead and he seemed shocked by my question and I realised I sound like his Wife which I am but he doesn't acknowledge that so I'm not sure If I'm allowed to care for him.

I didn't wait for him to reprimand or scold me, Instead I limped my way back into the car. He can scold me in the car.

"You should have stayed in the car. Look what you're wearing it's too short. All those guys had their perverted eyes on you and who knows what they were thinking." He says once he gets into the car.

I suddenly felt uncomfortable with the pervy topic and I lean back into the car seat looking away from him and out the Window.

"I'm Sorry." I mutter not knowing what else to say. At least he's fine.

I hear him sigh. "How's your foot?"

"It hurts." I admit and he surprises me by placing a hand over mine and I let him intertwine our Fingers. I turn to him but he doesn't meet my eyes instead he keeps his eyes on the road as he starts driving again.

I hate to admit that i like it but I do. I like it more than I expect to and I'm left feeling neglected when he releases my hand.

This little gesture of tenderness made me wonder if Damilayo and I could actually become more.

But the thought of Trisha slips into my mind and I realise how naive I must seem, thinking that just because he held my hand we can actually become friends maybe even more.
