Eden’s POV

He smiled and then he left.

For a long moment, I simply stared at the place where he had been, the patch of sidewalk that still seemed to echo with his presence. My chest rose and fell unevenly, relief mingling with disappointment so sharp it stung. My hands pressed against the glass as if to convince myself. He had left.

But the silence he left behind was no comfort. It pressed down heavier than his gaze had. The emptiness outside was unbearable, and a strange hollowness spread through me, making me ache in a way that had nothing to do with fatigue.

I stumbled back to bed, curling up beneath the sheets, clutching them tight against me. Sleep did not come. My eyes closed, but the image of him standing in the shadows burned against my lids.

It was midmorning before the sound of the front door opening stirred me. The familiar creak of hinges, the slam of it shutting again, and then the voice of my best friend carried up the stairs.

“Eden? You awake?”

I sat up quickly, pulling

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA PRINCIPAL    Chapter Thirty-Four: Back to Black

Eden’s POVThe silence after he left was not silence at all.The room still pulsed with him. The air still clung to the scent of him, sharp and heady, coating my tongue and my lungs. My body still hummed from what he had done, my thighs trembling, my lips swollen, my pulse thundering in places I did not even know could throb with want. I lay back against the pillows, hair damp against my neck, skin sticky with heat, staring at the ceiling as though it could hold me steady. But it could not. Nothing could.Kael had carved himself into me in ways I did not know how to undo. His absence was heavier than his presence, because every second after he slipped away, my body begged for him back. My mind screamed warnings, my heart whispered surrender, and I was caught between both, bleeding into the mattress.I pulled the sheets around me, trying to hide from the truth, but his words echoed louder in the quiet. You are mine.I shivered, clutching the blanket tighter. I wanted to deny it. I want

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA PRINCIPAL    Chapter Thirty-Three: The Silence That Burns

Eden’s POVThe mall lights blurred in my vision as Claire chattered beside me, her hands full of bags, her voice spilling excitement over which outfits she would wear first. I nodded when she looked at me, murmured back the right words, but none of it sank in. My pulse was still racing from the kiss that had seared my lips, from the way Kael’s body had pressed into mine, from the dark promise in his voice.I could still feel him.The phantom weight of his hand at my waist lingered like a bruise. My lips tingled as if they had been marked. Every step I took felt unsteady, as though I was walking with his eyes still fixed on me from somewhere in the crowd.Claire tugged at my arm. “Earth to Eden. Are you even listening to me?”I blinked and forced a smile. “Sorry. Just tired.”She rolled her eyes but grinned anyway. “That’s what you get for skipping half your food. I swear you’ll faint one of these days if you keep living on air and coffee.”Her teasing brushed over me like static, but

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA PRINCIPAL    Chapter Thirty-Two: Eyes That Follow

Eden’s POVClaire was already buzzing again, tugging me into another boutique with racks of dresses that glittered under the soft lights. She was in her element, brushing fabrics between her fingers, holding dresses against her body in the mirror, spinning small jokes about what would look good on me. I smiled when she looked at me, but the smile never reached my chest. My heart had its own rhythm, faster than hers, tuned to a frequency that did not belong in the mall at all.The food sat heavy in my stomach, untouched, because the moment Kael had disappeared, something had shifted inside me. Relief should have been the natural answer. I should have been lighter, freer. Instead, I felt hollow. My skin tingled with absence, as though I had been left open, unfinished.Claire grabbed two dresses and disappeared into the fitting room, leaving me alone near the racks. The store was warm and filled with soft music, the kind that was meant to relax shoppers, but my pulse climbed higher with

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA PRINCIPAL    Chapter Thirty-One

Eden’s POVI stood frozen at the top of the escalator, the hum of the mall around me dimming beneath the weight of his stare. People brushed past me in waves, their laughter and chatter spilling like water over stones, but none of it reached me. All I felt was the tether that stretched across the distance, the one Kael had tied around me without ever asking. He had not moved. He did not need to. His stillness was its own command. His eyes were not just watching but holding, claiming, as though they alone were enough to stop me in my tracks.Claire tugged at my arm, oblivious. “Eden? Come on, you are spacing out again.”I forced my legs to move, the fabric of my skirt swishing softly against my thighs as I followed her. Each step was a betrayal of the part of me that wanted to stay rooted in place, to keep looking at him until I understood why he unsettled me so deeply. I told myself it was fear. I told myself it was wrong. But beneath the tight knot of dread, something hotter curled l

Eden’s POVClaire kept talking as we moved farther away from the escalator, her words sharp and protective, but I barely heard her. My head was still full of noise that was not the mall’s noise at all. It was the echo of those boys’ voices, their laughter sticking to me like smoke, the heat of their stares still crawling over my skin. My hands would not stop shaking. I pressed them into the sides of my skirt to hide it, but it did not stop the tremor that lived inside me.“Forget them,” Claire said finally, her tone softer now. “You know how some guys are. They get off on being pests. They are all talk.”I wanted to nod, to let her comfort be enough, but something inside me twisted tighter. It was not just that those boys had followed us. It was how quickly my body had frozen under their attention, how powerless I had felt. And worse than that, it was the thought that had cut through the panic, uninvited and sharp.Kael.I kept seeing his eyes in my mind, pale and unyielding, the way
