DANIELLA POV

The next morning felt heavy. I woke up with sore eyes and a tired heart. The room was quiet. Lilian was still asleep beside me, her hand resting near my arm like she had been guarding me all night.

For a while, I just lay there and stared at the ceiling. My chest felt tight, but the tears were gone. I did not feel strong. I sat up slowly, wiped my face, and stood from the bed. .

I got ready in silence.

By the time I reached the office, I was already tired. The building felt colder than usual. The hall was quiet. When I walked to my desk, more files were already waiting for me. The stack looked higher than the day before.

My fingers trembled a little as I touched the first file.

I took a slow breath and sat down.

The day had only just begun, and I already felt the weight pressing on me again.

My hands moved through the files, but my mind felt slow. Words blurred on the paper. Numbers danced in front of my eyes. I blinked many times, trying to stay focused. I did not want anyone to think I was weak.

Rider walked out of his office.

The room changed the moment he stepped out. Everyone went quiet. His presence filled the space like a weight in the air. He did not look at me at first. He spoke to someone else, gave instructions. His voice was calm and firm.

Then his eyes fell on me.

Just for a second.

Cold. Sharp. As if I was something fragile that did not belong in his world.

My chest tightened. I looked back at my files. I did not speak. I did not breathe too loud. I only worked.

Hours passed.

My back ached. My neck felt stiff. Hunger burned in my stomach, but I did not leave my seat. I watched people pack their bags and go home. The office lights went off one by one.

While mine stayed on.

More files arrived.

My eyes watered, but I forced myself to swallow the tears.

Rider came out again. He stopped when he saw me still there. His face did not change, but something in his eyes looked tense. He walked closer and stood near my desk.

“You are not done yet?” he asked quietly.

His voice was calm, but it cut through my tired heart.

“I am trying,” I said softly. “There is still more to finish.”

He looked at the files, then at my face. My eyes were red. My hands shook a little, even though I tried to hide it.

For a brief moment, his jaw tightened.

He turned away.

“Do not make mistakes,” he said, and walked back into his office.

The door closed.

My throat burned.

I bit my lip so I would not cry again.

I worked until the letters on the page turned into fog. My head felt light. My heart felt heavy. The office was silent. By the time I was done, I closed my laptop and decided to head home when the door to Ryder’s office opened.

“You’re leaving already?” he asked from the hallway.

“Yes, sir. I’m done with the paperwork for today, so I’m leaving.”

“I’ll take you home if you don’t mind,” he replied, shocking me to the core. Did Ryder Brighton really offer me a ride? I must be dreaming.

“Oh, uh, no worries. It’s fine. I don’t want to disturb you anyway, sir. I’ll just take a bus,” I said, my voice a little shaky.

“Don’t worry, Daniella. I’ll take you home. It’s late anyway, and it’s my fault you’re going home this late.”

Before I could reply, he was already escorting me to his private parking lot and opened the door for me.

He started driving and asked me for directions to my house, which I explained. His intriguing scent filled the car, and it was oddly fascinating.

“How are you coping at work, Daniella?” he asked.

I felt a surge of anger at the question, but I kept my cool and smiled. After all, he was my boss, and if I wasn’t careful with my words, I could get fired.

“Oh, uh, work is great, but it’s draining. I haven’t really made any friends yet because I’m so occupied, but I’ll adjust to my schedule. The pay is good, so I can’t give up just because it’s not easy, sir. Success isn’t easy, and I’m determined to work hard,” I said.

“Wow. I didn’t really expect that answer from you. Don’t get me wrong, you’re smart, but a lot of my secretaries usually end up quitting because of the workload, and they weren’t smart at all. Just flirty and parasites. But you’re the opposite,” he said, looking at me surprised, and then he laughed.

His laughter did something to me that I didn’t understand. I tried to hide my blush and just smiled back at him.

I guess everyone are not the same and you’re not meant to judge someone based on how someone acted towards you in the past.

He smiled at me again and I just blushed like a high school girl. Gosh this was inappropriate and embarrassing. I looked at the window and just appreciated the view while hiding my face from him.

We sat in silence till we reached my house.

Rider stopped his car in front of my house and came to open the passenger door for me. Lilian heard the sound of his car and came out to check out what’s wrong and I couldn’t be more embarrassed. She smiled at rider and greeted him while giving me thid taunting look. I wished the ground could just swallow me at this point.

I thanked rider for the drive and watched him leave before stepping into the house.

I just knew things were never going to be the same after this drive and I didn’t know how to feel about it.

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 33

RIDER POVI had sat in my office for almost two hours without working or using my cell phone. I hadn’t done any work in the past two hours. I had simply sat in my office looking like an idiot without doing anything productive, while everyone else was moving inside the pack house like there was nothing wrong at all, but there was something actually wrong.I had thought of what happened almost forty times but repeating did not make it easier. The expression on her face when I changed my position. The particular expression on her face which was neither exactly of fear nor something lesser than fear. It was like the ground had simply vanished from underneath her while she was standing on it, and then the scream followed by my mum dragging her into the safe room and the door closing while I was standing there in the middle of a rogue attack thinking about nothing but that look on her face.Jordan came to check up on me in my office, but I did not bother responding . After about 40 minut

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 32

DANIELLA POVI didn't hear the howl again but I sat up anyway, just in case. My phone was in my hand, the lamp on, and at some point I must have just passed out because I woke up still in yesterday's clothes with the sun way too high already and my phone dead somewhere by my feet.I checked my phone, and saw Eleven missed calls. Six from Rider, three from Lilian, and two numbers I didn't even recognize and honestly I didn't care enough right then to find out who.I just lay there for a minute looking at the ceiling. My mouth tasted disgusting, my neck hurts from sleeping wrong, and underneath all of that, underneath the normal morning stuff, there was this other thing sitting in my chest that I didn't have a name for yet, it was heavy and cold, like something had moved in overnight and hadn't left.I plugged my phone in, but I didn't bother calling anybody back.I thought about calling Aunt Lily. I actually picked the phone back up at one point, and searched for her name, aching t

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 31

DANIELLA POVI don't know how long I sat in that room. Time had stopped meaning anything normal. Sophia's hands were still warm around mine at some point and then they weren't, she'd been pulled away by someone needing her, and one of the other women sat with me instead, quietly, but not overstepping her boundaries and not trying to push me to talk, just present, and I sat there and stared at the same spot on the wall until someone told me it was over. Like that was a word that made sense for what had just happened. After a while, I crashed on the woman's shoulder. Too weak to fight the sleep. By the time I woke up, I was already in a room. I don't remember getting up. I don't remember walking out of that room. I just remember waking up in a room, with Rider beside me and and the house was quiet again, eerily quiet, like the place hadn't just been full of wolves twenty minutes ago, and there were people moving through the wreckage of whatever had happened, fixing things, checking on

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 30

DANIELLA POVI don’t know how long I sat in that car alone with the howl still ringing somewhere in my chest but at some point headlights swept across the trees and his car door opened and he got in and the silence that came in with him was a different kind than the one he’d left behind. He didn’t say anything for a moment, he just sat there with both hands on the wheel and stared through the windshield and I looked at his profile in the dark and waited and the city below us had no idea, it just kept glittering like everything was fine.“I’m sorry,” he said finally.“Don’t,” I said.He looked at me.“Don’t apologise and then say nothing,” I said. “I’m tired of the apologies that don’t come with anything behind them.”Something moved across his face. He nodded once, slow, like he was accepting something, and then he started the car and drove me home and the whole way back neither of us said a word and I sat with my hands in my lap and watched the streets go by and felt the weight of ev

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA    CHAPTER 29

DANIELLA POVHe had been quiet all evening. Not his usual quiet, not the comfortable kind that I had learned to just exist inside of without needing to fill it. This was different. This was the kind of quiet that had weight to it, that sat between us at dinner and drove home with us afterward and didn’t leave when we pulled off the main road into this spot he knew, overlooking the city, where he’d parked without explaining why and turned the engine off.I had waited. The city glittered below us and the car was warm and I sat with my hands in my lap and waited because I had learned that with Rider you didn’t push. You just made enough space and eventually he came to you.He was staring straight ahead through the windshield.“I need to tell you something,” he said.My heart rate did something immediate.“Okay,” I said. Quietly. Like if I spoke too loudly the moment would startle and run.He turned to look at me and the look on his face was something I hadn’t seen before, not exactly, it

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 28

DANIELLA POVI had been asking Rider for three weeks now about me visiting his house. Not in a pushy way, not like I was keeping score, just whenever it came up naturally I would mention it and he would find some smooth way to redirect the conversation and I would let him because I wasn’t going to make it a thing. But I had been asking for three weeks and after everything that had happened, after Thursday and then Saturday and the car and his forehead and the thing I had watched happen that I still hadn’t fully let myself sit with properly, I needed something. I needed to see where he lived. I needed to see one real, concrete, normal thing about him that would give me somewhere solid to stand. So on Sunday morning when he called to ask what I wanted to do that day I said “I want to see your place” and I didn’t soften it or make it a question and there was a pause on the other end of the line, just a breath, and then he said “okay.”Just okay, like he’d been waiting for me to stop le

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   Chapter 1

DANIELLA POVThe lights on the city streets twinkled like promises I had once believed in. Now, they only mocked me. Christmas Eve, and my boyfriend was exactly where he shouldn’t be, laughing in someone else’s arms.I pulled my coat tighter around myself, the bitter wind biting through the fabric.

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 27

DANIELLA POVIt was a Thursday evening and we just left work. We were on our way to my house as usual for him to drop me off. • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   Chapter 5

DANIELLA POVHe really looks at you like you don’t belong babe. I heard from behind me and looked at Lilian who was already laughing at me. What’s funny Lilian I asked while trying to act angry but smiled instead. Girl you were literally just crying yesterday like you were about to commit suicide a

  • CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   Chapter 2

Rider POVThe night was quiet as I walked along the edge of the forest. The air was cold, and the ground felt firm beneath my boots. I was supposed to be in my office finishing reports, but when rogues were detected near our borders, I came out to patrol. As Alpha, I always led the search myself.
