Liam’s POV

Diana was in a talking mood this morning.

Which meant trouble.

She kicked her feet lightly beneath the breakfast table. “Daddy, guess what Damien said yesterday!”

I already braced myself. “What?”

“He said he wants to show me his new drawing. It’s a dragon. And he said dragons are cool. And I said dragons are cool too. And then he said he wants to show me after school so I told him maybe we can go to his house or he can come to ours and then—”

Liam’s POVI stayed outside Ava's apartment for several minutes, watching from inside my car.Sebastian helped her with the shopping bags before handing her one particular bag.Ava opened it and looked inside. Her expression softened.I didn't need to ask what it was.A for Damien. My jaw tightened. He was already buying things for my son.Sebastian said something to her, and she smiled.Something inside me burned. I tightened my grip around the steering wheel. For one second, I wanted to get out. I wanted to walk over there and tell him to stay the hell away from her.But I stopped myself.Ava wasn't mine anymore. I was the one who had ended things. So what right did I have?I watched Sebastian leave and Ava disappeared into the building.Yet I remained there.I couldn't explain why seeing her with him hurt this much.I started the engine. I didn't want to go home.I needed somewhere else to be.And there was only one person I could think of.Adrian.It was almost an hour later when

Ava’s POVBy the time I finished work, I was already exhausted.I stepped out of Reynolds Holdings and immediately spotted Sebastian waiting beside his car.He smiled when he saw me.“Good evening, Ava.”“Good evening, Sebastian.”I walked toward him and got into the passenger seat.He got in after me, and soon the car pulled away from the company.I looked at him.“So, where are we going?”He glanced at me with a small smile.“To dinner.”“Dinner where?”“You'll see.”I raised an eyebrow.“That sounds suspicious.”He laughed.“I promise you, you'll like it.”I looked down at my clothes. I was wearing a simple pair of trousers and a blouse.Sebastian glanced at me too.“Actually, before we go to the restaurant, we're stopping at a shopping mall.”“Why?”“Because you need a dress.”I looked at him in confusion.“A dress?”“Yes. The restaurant we're going to is very exclusive. I don't think your current outfit is suitable.”I looked at myself again.“I think I'm dressed fine.”“You are,

Liam’s POVFor the first time in a while, breakfast at the Reynolds mansion felt almost normal.I sat at the head of the table, as usual. Diana sat by my righy, Margaret and Clara was seated across each other.Diana was happily eating her breakfast and talking about everything that had happened at school the previous day.I listened to her with a small smile.“Daddy, you're not listening again.”I looked at her.“I am.”“No, you're not.”Clara laughed, “She caught you.”I shook my head. “Fine. What was I supposed to be listening to?”Diana smiled. “I want to go somewhere this weekend.”“Where?”“The zoo.”I chuckled. “We'll see.”“You always say that.”“Because you always ask for something.”She giggled before returning to her food. For a few more minutes, the conversation remained light. Then Diana finished eating.“I’m done.”Margaret glanced at the time.“You'll be late for school.”Diana quickly stood from her chair. She came around to me and wrapped her arms around my neck.“Bye,

Ava's POVI stared at my phone long after the call ended. My hands felt cold.Dr. Miranda Kane. The same woman who had been there when I gave birth to Diana and Damien six years ago.I knew her.I remembered her face, her voice, the way she had spoken to me during the delivery. But I had never imagined that the doctor who helped bring my children into the world would one day use that same knowledge against me.My heart pounded. Then another message came in.I quickly looked down at my phone. If you tell anyone what I know, especially Liam, you will regret it. I have someone watching Damien. Don't make me hurt your son.My breath caught.No.I reread the message.Once. Twice. My hands began trembling.Damien.She was threatening Damien.I immediately thought of my son laughing, running around the house, asking endless questions, and calling me whenever he needed something.I couldn't let anything happen to him.I quickly typed a response. What do you want from me?The message showed as

Dr. Miranda Kane's POVI have always believed that people reveal their true selves when they think no one is watching. For years, I had watched people.I had watched patients come into my office frightened and leave relieved. I had watched families cry over hospital beds. I had watched doctors celebrate successful surgeries and mourn the ones they couldn't save. And I had learned something from all of it.People were predictable when you knew what frightened them.My name is Dr. Miranda Kane.I am a physician, a woman who has spent years building a respectable career in medicine. To most people, I am nothing more than a calm and professional doctor who knows how to handle difficult situations.I have always been good at appearing calm.Even when I am not.Six years ago, my career brought me to St. Aurelia Hospital, where I handled a young woman's delivery. Her name was Ava Morales. She was young, frightened, and exhausted when she arrived that night. And she wasn't carrying one baby.

Liam's POV"How have you been?"The question left my mouth before I could stop myself.Ava stood completely still. She looked at me as if she hadn't expected me to ask."I've been... okay," she finally answered.I studied her face and I asked against."How's work?"She blinked."It's fine."I nodded slowly and asked another question, "And you've been eating?"She gave me a confused look. "Why are you asking me all these questions?"I looked away for a second."I don't know."The truth was, I didn't know either.I had come here to bring Damien home. That was all.Yet somehow, I was standing in front of Ava asking about her life as though we hadn't spent weeks barely speaking. She lowered her eyes."I'm managing."I took another step closer."Ava..."She looked up at me."You don't have to pretend you're fine with me."She swallowed. "I'm not pretending."Neither of us spoke for a moment. Then she asked quietly, "And how was it with Damien?""He had a good time."Her face softened immed
