Alec’s POV

It dawned on me over and over again why I felt attracted to her—why I felt nothing but pity for her since her first day in this Pack. How was I supposed to know she was mine?

Why did she have to be the chosen one?

The more I walked closer, the more my thoughts were racing. Ever since I became Beta of The Deathbringer Pack, I had done nothing, absolutely nothing but try to prove how much of a loyal person I could be to the Alpha.

And that, I had done.

Not until now.

I was still loyal. I tried all I could to be.

Finally, after a long time of walking and thinking, I was standing at the door of that room.

Unlike the other times, I didn't have the zeal, or the will to check in on Kane. But what choice did I have?

An ingenuine smile was on my countenance as I unlocked the door with the key I had with me, rushing into the space as I cared. I did, but it wasn't as before.

    Rain's POV I stopped in my tracks, the large tray remained in my hand. Almost two weeks have passed since we last saw each other. It was strange. Very strange but I wasn't mad at him. Not any longer. The mate bond was doing more than enough already. One more step and I stood right in front of him. “Beta Alec.” My head bent and I bowed. “Good day, my lord. It's been a while. How are you today?” Looking back at his face, I now planted a smile. One I knew I meant. “Rain—” He whispered more than he spoke. “My Lord.” “How are you?” The tall man looked behind him, then he faced me again and let out. “It's been a while, indeed. How have you been and are you alright?” “I am doing well—” But I wasn't. I was worse than before when I wasn't a maid to the Alpha. Life was worse back then and now? It was more than worse.
