AXEL’S PRIVATE BUILDING*

In a large bright room, Axel was asleep on the bed and Trent was seated close to the bed. His gaze fixed on Axel the whole time, especially the arm that was wrapped with a bandage.

Axel slowly opened his eyes and the first thing it came in contact with was Trent’s face. He tried to sit upright but pain hit from his arm.

He groaned and still sat upright, resting his back on the bed frame.

“I’m wondering if you’re an imposter, cause this isn’t the Axel I used to know.” Trent said, giving him and indifferent look.

Axel didn’t question his statement, he knew what Trent meant by that.

Axel Thomas Leonard wouldn’t go for an exchange and get shot in the process. He does the shooting, not the other way round.

Last night, after returning from the hospital where he went to see Rebecca, he went for a drug exchange, with few of his men. Things turned out nasty, and he got shot in the arm.

    As Axel entered the compound, the men were perplexed. Where was Rebecca? In as much as they were curious, no one dared to ask. Axel’s steps slowed, but didn’t stop. “Go watch over her. Make sure she’s safe.” Immediately he said that, two of the men rushed outside, going to do as he had said. When Axel got to his room, he fell weakly on the bed and covered his face with his palms.     “Come in.” Rebecca muttered from the bed when she heard a knock on the door. She was seated upright, her legs covered with the blanket. The door opened slowly and Axel walked in, looking so tired and calm. “Hey.” He cooed.“Hey.” She reciprocated. She didn’t get up from the bed, she remained there.“How are you feeling?” He asked, moving closer to her.“Quite okay.” She mumbled shakily, knowing fully well the question that was coming next.“Wanna still go for the walk?” Her eyes lit, that wasn’t the question she was expecting. “Huh?”“I asked if you wanted to go for the walk or…”“Yes!” She cuts in sharply. “I want to.” She yanked the blanket off and stood from the bed. He stretched forth his hand and she looked up at him, wondering why he was acting sweet instead of bombarding her with questions. Slowly, she placed hers on his and they walked out of the room.     She grabbed the blanket on the bed and covered her body with it even though she was fully clothed. As she stepped out of her room, she came across a guy standing in front of her door.“Do you need something?” He asked calmly. Her brows furrowed. “What are you doing here?”“The boss asked me to stay here just in case you need something.” The guy replied. She let out a scoff. “I see.” She wasn’t dumb. She knew Axel made him stay there so she wouldn’t go out. He knew she would try to go for the dinner with Fernando, hence he placed someone there to watch her.“I’m thirsty and I need a pineapple juice.” She told him.     Rebecca woke up to a sweet smell, her eyes opened slowly and the first thing she saw was the white ceiling above her head. She moved her gaze sideways and she spotted a drip fixed to her left hand, and it was then she realized where she was. She turned to the other side and her eyes lit up when she saw a big bouquet of roses. It was the biggest she had seen in her entire lifetime. She sat upright, resting her back against the wall, and just immediately, the door to the ward opened and Axel walked in.“You’re awake?” He was surprised, but from his tone she could tell he was also excited.“Hey.” She cooed, as she stretched her free hand towards the bouquet and began rubbing it.“How are you feeling now? Do you feel good?” He questioned. Just as she was about to reply, she felt a sharp pain in her tummy, but she didn’t make a sound. “Guess I’m okay. What happened?” Axel was silent for a while, obviously thinking of what to tell her. “You um passed out because of stress.”

    He jerked out of his thought when Rebecca suddenly screamed. “Ouch!” She screamed again as she grabbed her belly.“What’s going on?” Axel demanded, his voice sharp with panic as he held under her arm, stopping her from falling directly to the floor.“My… my stomach!” She cried, clutching it in pains. She felt another sharp pain in her lower abdomen and she screamed horrifically, unable to stop herself. The men around rushed to the scene immediately. They had been staring the whole time from the sidelines and when they saw how the situation escalated, they rushed in.“Get the car ready!” Axel instructed. She felt something warm rushing through her legs and at that moment, realization suddenly dawned on her. Tears streamed out of her eyes as she got hit by another pain, and the last thing she could remember was Axel carrying her in his arms and after that it was a total blackout.***** Axel stood outside the ward, with Kira beside him. Ever since she returned from the mission, he could tell something was off about her, but he just didn’t know what it was.
