"Patience is a virtue I'll personally teach Jeff when I get my hands on him."

I walked over to Larry, who had been staring out of the tent for a long time, his eyes empty as the night.

"Still no sign of him?" I asked, watching the way the sky glowed purple.

"No." He rubbed his jaw, facing the sky then turning to me.

"Why couldn't he be less reckless?" he sneered, his fingers combing through his hair.

"He's responsible for over twenty deaths," annoyance creased his face as he slumped deep into the chair, "and he's nowhere to be found."

I picked up the pipe, blowing a slow ring of smoke into the air. "Are you certain all twenty are dead?" I asked, letting the question hang.

"Yeah," he answered. "I couldn't commune with any of their spirits. They're gone, thanks to your brother."

My brown eyes flared, pupils dilating slightly, turning yellow. In a blink I shifted—covered with fur and fangs—pinning him to the ground. "Did you just speak ill of Jeff?" My claws dug deeper, a remi
