He lifted me to the throne room and carefully placed me on his work table. I thought he wanted to consummate, but instead, he reached for my hip.
A perfectly drawn black rose petal tattoo emerged. He smiled—the rose tattoo meant I was getting over the fear of him. He leaned in and stole a kiss, his tongue testing every corner of my lips, and I couldn't help but kiss back, rekindling the crush I once had. For the first time, I saw his smile. He was blindfolded, but he acted as if he could see everything happening. He stood a little far off as he unbuttoned his shirt and turned his back to me. “I want you to check slowly on my back for the snake tattoo,” he spoke. “Do not leave out any small detail,” he added. I looked carefully at the snake tattoo, which was very huge, covering his back—but not as before. It was different this time; the color wasn't purely dark but a little faded. “It's faded,” I spoke, not understanding what was going on. For the first time, he smiled, leaning to give me a surprised kiss. His smile was warming and welcoming but still fearsome. Lifting me up while jumping excitedly, he placed me softly on the table, walking around out of excitement. “For every rose petal that comes out from my skin and goes to yours, it serves as your protection,” he started, pointing at his arm where one of his rose petal tattoos had disappeared. “The tattoos are your immunity against my curse,” he said, his face brightening up, though his eyes were still blindfolded. “How are you able to see?” I finally asked. “I don't need eyes to have perfect vision, my dear Luna. I have something more powerful for that,” he spoke, and I didn't want to ruin his good mood by asking more questions. I reached out to his blindfold as the distance closed between us. Although he was taller than me, I climbed up the table. He knew what I was about to do, and he held my hands to stop me. “Don't!” he whispered, finally his soft side coming out. “I want to see,” I said stubbornly. “Please don't be scared,” he softly spoke. As I opened his blindfold, he turned towards me, his eyes still closed, while I waited eagerly to finally see him as who he is— Not the feared Alpha or my curse—but just Kade. “Open your eyes,” I said, holding his head and kneeling on the table to match his height. He slowly opened his eyes, and I stared right through them. It scared me, but I had to overcome the fear. He reached to my hip to check the tattoo, only to find two rose tattoos. “Thank you,” he whispered, leaning forward for a kiss, but then sadness filled his face. “How did you get the curse?” I asked, and that was enough to return him to his bad mood. “You're not ready to hear that yet,” he whispered, lifting me up and taking me outside, not smiling at anyone, and placed me at the all-prepared table with all kinds of foods. “I didn't get the chance to welcome you properly,” he spoke, ushering me to the seat. When his men approached, he quickly reached for a blindfold in his pocket, fitted it to his eyes, adjusted his suit, and sat at the table like the Alpha he really was. For some minutes, I forgot the giggles in the throne room. I had to find out about the curse that I am under. To defeat something, I had to find the source. After dinner, I took advantage of the distracted Alpha and snuck into his throne room, trying to find something. “What you're looking for, you won't find it here,” an old voice cracked. I turned in fear, but he smiled, walking towards me. “Pardon me, we haven't met. I'm Kael, the family doctor!” he stated, going to sit down in his chair. “To be the first out of the six to survive, I'm sure you have so many questions,” he started, reaching for his pocket to remove a cigar. “You know about the curse, don't you?” I asked, my hands trembling in fear. “His father was a very reckless man. He thought he could have a way with everyone, until one day he committed the unthinkable with a forbidden creature in the land—and he was the product of that cursed night,” he spoke, as realization hit me that no one had ever spoken about his parents. “What about the prophecy?” My curiosity got the best of me again. “It's said that a half-breed that he truly loves will be the one who would break the curse. And since you survived the unthinkable, everyone in the pack sees you as the one,” he spoke, turning off his cigar. “Were there no half-breeds before?” I asked. “There were—in fact, all of them were. But there's something special about you,” he said as he stood up. “Were the rest not special?” I asked, but he just chuckled and left. But I refused to believe that I could be something more—or even special. I just wanted to fight for my life, not to save anyone. “Have you examined her?” the Alpha asked worryingly. “She’s perfectly okay,” Kael assured. “When are you planning on telling her the truth?” Kael asked, and the question got all of my attention as I peeped through the door to see them converse. “She’s not ready. She might run away—and I need her,” Kade spoke possessively. “Don’t lie to me, Kade. She’s just like a weapon to you, just like the rest,” Kael spoke, angering the Alpha, who in turn held him by the neck and pinned him against the wall, raising him up. “This will be the last time you involve yourself in my business. That I respect you doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind slitting your throat and using you instead!” he threatened, his voice sending chills down my spine like I was the one being threatened. “She deserves to know the truth,” the doctor used to say, walking out and leaving Kade speechless as he walked around in silenceNight came while I was walking around, wondering. In my mind, what's next? was my only question. I made my way back to my parents' village where it all began.Something was off immediately I entered—the aura and the energy—all of them turned, got me suspicious. The same people we would play around with now kept their distance, hiding their children from my face just like we did the Alpha. No one wanted to even greet me. I couldn't tell whether it was just hate or resentment. My parents' house seemed abandoned, the grass outgrew the flowers, which was weird for a man that loves his flowers. The scent of death choked my nose with every step I took closer to the house. My heart sank. I immediately opened the door, waiting for my mom to run towards me the way she usually does. But the house was dead silent. I called to them, but no one answered. I rushed to their room but still nothing—apart from the torn curtains, nothing could bear witness to their presence.“They really loved you,” a s
I entered the room, everywhere looming of betrayal. Kade's eyes widened, his eyes partially black, his hands trembling around the envelope that he held so tightly. Kael's head bowed but left immediately I entered.Kade looked furious, opposite from the celebratory mood he was in… I swallowed hard, wanting to see what was in the envelope.“You called me?” I asked, my voice cracking.“Yes, I did, but I didn't call, I yelled,” he corrected me, throwing the envelope at my face, leaving it to hit the ground. I carefully picked it up.I opened the envelope carefully, only to see a piece of my robe inside the cloth, my red cloak also inside. I smiled out of relief, but his face wasn't buying anything.“You find it funny?” he asked me to squat just when I was seated.“What's funny again, Azren? You meeting up with another rival pack or you finding it funny I caught your betrayal?” he asked, and I blinked out of confusion. What was he talking about? Which betrayal is he referring to?“You plan
His hands slowly grabbed my waist possessively. The elder couldn't let out a single word—it was crystal clear who the boss was. My eyes and nose lingered through the air. If I can't see her, I could at least sniff her.The elder looked at me with disappointment, but who cares? I had just defeated the most feared one yet in the entire pack.Kade walked into the room, throwing me off onto the bed like a bag. My bones straightened up like they just waited for him. Just a sight of him could make me wet. But what if I get the pup? Wouldn't he get his share of the curse?I didn't get any time to process as my lips were shut down by warm lips—so warm I couldn't resist the taste of it. My hands on my head and his hands somewhere else.“Rough or slow?” he asked, but my brain seemed not to process his words, and he wasted no time in asking the questions again. Our bodies sparked and the bond flame ignited... he was my forced fated mate.“Alpha, there's an issue!” Damian called out, but Kade did
I saw the fear in her eyes. Her belly was showing, but not her fear. My wolf power surprised me—I couldn't see that clearly, the reddish view was all I could get. Is this how Kade views things? I asked myself. In a vengeful rage, I reached for Tasha and struck her out of her senses.“Can’t she see that the poor girl is pregnant?”“She’s jealous, she’s pregnant for the Alpha—something that she couldn’t do!”Rumors, as usual. I turned to look at the two old she-wolves who dared to talk about me. I could see them but also feel their emotions. Their thoughts overwhelmed mine—and then the rest.“Shut up!” I yelled, overwhelmed with thought. But they didn’t. They kept on going and going and going.“Why is she yelling?”“Was she never taught self-control?”“The cursed one can’t handle herself.”All the thoughts overcame my brain. I couldn’t stand it. I placed my hands over my ears, letting my guard down. Then—headache. The surge was too much. Tasha, on the other hand, looked happy. Her smirk
“She’s back.”“Traitor. She killed the Alpha.”“Maybe it was her revenge to get back at him.”Rumors. Everyone had something to say. The pack that Kade nearly died to protect now had different things to say about him.“Good riddance.”“We can all be free from the cursed one.”“How? When she has the curse too?”My restraint was being tested—mocked, insulted—by the same people who once watched and gave me away to the Alpha. Now they stood there calling me names. The house was silent. Too silent. But the noise coming from the throne room piqued my curiosity. For a house this still, why would there be noise in the throne room—especially when the Alpha was missing?I followed my instincts, and there I found the elders. Damian and Tasha were seated at the throne in all its glory. They were all shocked. But my ‘I told you so’ smile showed up before I could stop it.Damian looked like he had seen a ghost.“You’re supposed to be dead,” Damian said. I laughed—boldly.“Supposed to? Why are you s
“How and since when have you known about this?” I asked, keeping my voice low—low enough not to reach Kade's ears.“From the first time at the party. I raised Tasha, so I knew it wasn't her,” Kael replied. But why couldn’t Kade feel it?“Tasha was arrogant, yet not rude. Tasha didn’t like Kade—she saw him as a brother. So I knew something was wrong with her,” he said while removing spikes from Kade’s body.“I saw her reflection in the mirror, and I recognized her,” he added.“So you know Linda?” I gasped.“Yes. I helped her during the delivery of Kade,” he said. Not only did he know that she’s a witch, but also that she’s Kade’s mother. Did Kade know this information too?“No, he doesn’t know anything about this, and I’d prefer we don’t dive into that topic,” he said, as if he could read my mind.I nodded, but my mind had many questions that would be answered after millennia.“How can I defeat her?” I asked, getting back to reality.“You don’t. Use her weakness against her,” he sugges
