MELANIE’s POV

Jethro had spoken to me a few times during the drive, asking if I was comfortable or if I needed anything, but I only gave him short answers. I knew he was trying. I could feel his eyes occasionally moving toward me, probably wondering what was going through my mind, but I didn’t know how to explain it to him.

“Are you cold?” he asked after a while.

“No.”

“Do you want me to turn off the air conditioner?”

“I’m fine.” He went quiet again.

I stared out of the window, watching everyth

MELANIE’S POV“Melanie.”I heard Jethro’s voice behind me, his hand slid around my waist, pulling me gently against his side. I looked up at him.He didn’t say anything at first. His eyes moved from me to Kendal, and the expression on his face changed almost immediately. It was the look I knew too well. Kendal straightened. “Mr. Blackstone.” Jethro looked at her.“What?”She smiled, the kind of smile that was clearly meant to look seductive. “I was just telling your wife that you and I have known each other for quite some time.”Jethro’s brows drew together. I could practically see the question forming in his head. What the hell is this woman talking about? Kendal continued, seemingly encouraged by his silence.“You know, there are some things only certain people understand about you.” Jethro stared at her. I bit the inside of my cheek. She really wasn’t going to stop. “And perhaps if your wife wasn’t always so

  • Caged By His Love   He chose me

MELANIE’S POVThe following morning, I walked out of the hotel room beside Jethro, dressed and ready for the day. Today was for sightseeing. We had already decided to visit several places around the city before heading back to the hotel later in the evening. Jethro walked ahead of me as we made our way toward the lobby, his hands tucked casually into the pockets of his coat. When we reached the entrance, I slowed down. “Go ahead,” I said. He turned around.“Where are you going?”“I need to speak to someone. I’ll meet you outside.” His eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn’t question me.“Don’t take too long.””Okay.” He nodded and walked toward the waiting car.I watched him leave before turning toward the reception desk. Kendal was there. The moment her eyes landed on me, I noticed the brief flicker of surprise on her face. I almost smiled, I walked toward her.“Good morning, Kendal.” She looked me up an

  • Caged By His Love   First Impression

MELANIE’s POVI had looked at him and thought he was the most attractive man I’d ever seen. There was something about the way he carried himself, the confidence in his posture, the expression on his face. He looked like someone who knew exactly who he was.I laughed softly, resting my chin against my hand. “The funny thing is, I didn’t even know who you were. I just saw this incredibly handsome man standing there, and my first thought was simply, we would look good together “Jethro nearly choked on his drink. I laughed. “I was single,” I defended myself. “And I had just gotten out of a terrible relationship” I shrugged. “So you saw me and immediately decided you liked me?” “Yes.” His smile grew. “But then you opened your mouth.” I groaned dramatically. “That was when everything almost went wrong. Jethro laughed. “I remember looking at you and thinking you were gorgeous. You had that whole mysterious, intimidating thing going on, and I thought, This man is my type. Then you started

  • Caged By His Love   Dinner Date

MELANIE’s POVI walked toward the window and looked outside. The last traces of daylight were fading from the sky when the door opened behind me. I turned, Jethro walked in.He walked toward me, holding something in his hands. “I want you to be ready by eight.”“Ready for what?”“We’re going out tonight.” I stared at him for a second.“Going out where?”“You’ll find out.” Of course. He never made anything easy. That familiar unreadable expression settled over his face, and I narrowed my eyes at him. He walked closer and held out what he was carrying.I took it from him slowly, peeked inside, and saw a dress. I blinked unfolding the fabric enough to see the beautiful material beneath my fingers. It was beautiful. Everything about it was elegant. The kind of dress I would have chosen for myself.I ran my fingers lightly over the fabric.“Eight,” he repeated.“I heard you.”A faint smirk appeared on his face before he turned toward the door. I watched him leave, then looked down at the dr

  • Caged By His Love   Different in a good way

MELANIE’s POVThe room was dark, except for the faint glow coming from the bedside lamp. I lay quietly on my side, staring into the darkness. Jethro was asleep beside me.I could hear his steady breathing, and somehow, the sound made the room feel less empty. My mind, however, refused to be quiet. So much had happened.I had spent days barely recognizing myself. I had stopped caring about what I looked like, what I wore, how my hair looked, or even whether I smiled anymore.I turned my head slightly and looked at Jethro. I didn’t want to think about losing anything else. My heart couldn’t take it. I had already lost my child. I couldn’t lose my husband too.My eyes slowly drifted toward the ceiling. Kendal’s face briefly flashed through my mind. The way she had looked at me. The confidence in her eyes. The way she had carried herself as though she already belonged in my place. I frowned. I hated that she had gotten under my skin. But perhaps what bothered me most wasn’t her.It was th

  • Caged By His Love   I love you

MELANIE’s POVI don’t know how long I was out. When I stirred, something felt different — the bed beneath me was too soft, nothing like before. I opened my eyes slowly and found myself in a beautifully decorated white room. Jethro wasn’t there.“Jethro?” I sat up, scanning the room. Nothing. The suite was stunning — gleaming white walls, a gold chandelier catching the light, a gold sofa, glass walls. Everything perfectly placed, like it belonged in a magazine. But none of it mattered. He wasn’t there.“Jethro?” I called out, louder this time. No answer. “Jethro!” I called again, and again, my voice cracking a little more each time. Panic started creeping in, tears building up, ready to spill.“Melanie, are you okay?”The sweetest voice, right behind me. I spun around and threw myself into his arms, hugging him tight, the tears finally slipping down. “Talk to me” he asked, pulling back just enough to look at me.“I thought you left,” I muttered. He smiled and gently pushed me back, bo
