Chapter 4

"Thank you. for buying my order," I said.

I tried to act casual, so he wouldn't suspect anything. I didn't plan on finding out how he got these pastries; I thought it was trivial, and there were more important things I needed to focus on and learn from him.

"Why aren't you eating it, Dit? I went all the way to buy it for you." Chandra said, lying down next to me.

"Far?" I replied, "Weren't you in Malang earlier? And you bought this there too, right? How is that far?"

"Oh, yeah, right. Eat it, Dit" he concluded, scratching his non-itchy head.

Answering simple questions seems challenging, yet he thinks he can outsmart me and get married again? He's just a local playboy.

"Maybe tomorrow. It's not nice to snack this late at night. Besides, I'm also sleepy," I said.

"Okay, let's sleep now. Oh yeah, Dit. I need to go out of town tomorrow, but I might not be back for three days. Is that okay?" he asked, smiling.

"It's fine. Do you really think I'd stop my husband from working?" I said.

"But you trust me, right, D? You know I'm faithful to you?" he asked, looking at me and holding my hand.

I pulled my hand away from his grip, feeling disgusted when I remembered his relationship with Raisa. Starting today, I won't let him touch me anymore. Chandra seemed surprised by my reaction; usually, I would be affectionate with him.

"Um, I don't know, I guess," I said.

"Why do you feel that way?" Chandra got closer.

"Well, you know. You're always out, who knows what you're doing out there," I said, sulking.

"Since when did you start thinking so negatively? Now you're even more adorable to me."

Chandra then moved closer and tried to kiss me, but I moved away. Three years together, and I know exactly when he wants something. After the betrayal he committed, there's no chance I'll let him find the old Dita anymore.

"Sorry. I'm really sleepy. Don't disturb me. Good night," I said, lying down with my back to him.

"Hmm, okay then. Good night, my beloved wife," he said, ruffling my hair.

I pretended to sleep and closed my eyes. After a few minutes, I heard his gentle snoring from beside me, indicating that he had fallen into a deep sleep. Once I was sure he was asleep, I got up and began my operation.

My first target was Chandra's phone, which I saw on the nightstand next to the bed. It was unusual for the phone to be there; he usually carried it with him wherever he went. Maybe he was too tired tonight and forgot to take it.

I turned on the device, but unfortunately, I couldn't do much because it was locked with a password. I tried entering various combinations of words or letters that I thought were important to him, but nothing worked. This time, I gave up and decided to think about the password tomorrow. Once I figure it out, I'll be able to access his phone.

Next, I looked for his wallet in the pants he wore earlier. But it wasn't there. I then searched his work bag and finally found it.

I immediately opened the small brown item. There were just a few pieces of paper currency in the main compartment. Then there were a few credit cards and ATMs. I took the ATM with an account in my name that I had given him before; all the money from my business was in there.

Tomorrow, I planned to print out the account statement. Luckily, I had it saved. I would transfer all the business earnings to my personal account and go to the office to ask the finance department to make the transfer.

Then I looked through the other compartments in the wallet; there were several business cards, but one caught my attention: a property agent's card. It reminded me of Raisa's words about the house she would receive as a wedding gift. I took her card as well.

Then there was a small photo of me tucked behind a card slot. I smiled looking at it; he still kept that old photo.

I put the wallet back where it was and got ready to sleep. There was a lot I needed to do tomorrow. Luckily, he was leaving town, whether for work or an affair, I didn't need to know. With his absence, it would be easier for me to check the state of the company I hadn't seen for a long time. There were many changes I needed to make; his betrayal woke me from my comfortable zone. I was determined to make him regret what he did to me.

"Dita, I'm leaving now. It won't be long, maybe just two or three days. It's tiring to keep coming back and forth," he said while putting on his shoes.

"Sure. You can stay longer if you want," I said casually.

"You seem unusually happy about me leaving this time. You usually don't like it when I'm gone for too long."

"I've changed. I want to become more mature and not easily fooled by others," I said casually.

"Hmm, you're something else, Dit. Alright, I'm off."

Chandra then drove his car out of the gate. This time, I didn't mind kissing his hand and avoided when he leaned in to kiss my forehead. Little things like that, I wouldn't do them with him anymore.

After he left, I quickly got ready to leave as well. Today's plan was to visit the bank and go to the office.

Upon arriving at the bank, I requested an account statement and transferred all the funds to my personal account. I also set up mobile banking for this account, and I planned to return the ATM to where it was later.

I saw the significant amount of money that had been transferred to Chandra's account. I realized I had been naive to trust him with the finances and the company for so long. It was enough; you fooled me for too long. I will show you what I can do to repay your actions.

You're wrong Chandra, if you think I'm foolish and don't understand business. All this time, I respected you as my husband and didn't want you to feel inferior to me. But instead, you abused the trust I gave you.

Once I got to the office, I noticed many changes; I hadn't been here in nearly a year. Everyone seemed surprised by my presence but still showed me respect. Until I arrived in front of my husband's office. A sweet-looking girl with a slightly messy appearance approached me, about to enter the room.

"Sorry, Ma'am. Mr. Chandra is not in the office right now," she said politely but with a hint of concern.

"Yes, I know."

"I see, Ma'am. Can I help with anything?" she asked again. It seems she doesn't want me to enter my husband's room.

"No, it's alright. You can continue your work," I replied.

"Well, in that case. Please wait here for a moment, I will clean up your husband's room first. It's quite messy inside, Ma'am. Coincidentally, it hasn't been cleaned by the cleaning service yet."

Why does she seem afraid of me entering? There must be something amiss, causing her to be overly protective of her boss's room.
