Nina trembled with fear, but she couldn't stand to see her lover threatened, so she put on a show of bravado.

"The Laurent family has connections in both the formal and the underworld. If you arrest him, you won't be able to get away with it."

Merck's eyes slid over her with utter contempt; he didn't even bother to take her seriously.

"If we want to make the Laurent family disappear, they disappear. Besides, you crossed a line."

At his words, Yves's bodyguards staggered back, no longer shielding him.

"Really? The Laurent family's finished?"

"This is too big. These people aren't to be trifled with."

"If we clash head-on, we'll lose."

One by one, the bodyguards fled, desperate to avoid being implicated.
