Ex-girlfriend

Malia’s P.O.V.

“Are you ready?” Callisto let me wrap my arms around his arms.

“Of course.” I respond proudly, even though I’m so nervous that I want to vomit.

We’re about to go to an event that he’s invited to, and the worst part is that the big shots are there.

“The question is, are you ready for the questions that everyone will ask?” I asked.

“Who do you think I am?” He cockily answered. There’s a list of possible questions that people might ask us, and we made sure that we memorized them all.

Since we have to pretend that we’re not pretending, we have to convince everyone that we really love each other.

“I’m nervous.”

He squeezes my arms and pats them lightly. “Don’t be afraid; they won’t eat you. Just breathe, and breathe. Run if they do something."

I gasped at what he said. “They will do something! What do you fucking mean by that?"

I failed to receive an answer because the door of the event hall finally opened.

This is it.

We walk proudly as if we’re the main characters of the night. Be confident, he said. And I’m good at it.

We were welcomed by a group of men, mostly older men, who gathered around us to greet and talk to Callisto.

“Who’s this pretty lady?” An old man in his sixties eyed me from head to toe.

Callisto wraps his hands around my waist and answers, “She’s my finance."

Their mouths formed an ‘o’ before their eyes landed on me. Damn Callisto, I never thought that it'd be this intense, and the night’s just fucking starting.

Their conversation continued until I decided to sit on the chair that was reserved for us. Thankfully, it isn’t too far from where we are.

I secretly stretched my legs as soon as I sat down. Everyone’s talking, but most of them are men. Women are just drinking, or some of them, whom I think are friends, are talking in a circle.

I just ignored most of the ladies here who eyed me and glared at me earlier. I don’t know their problem, and I don’t want to know either.

“Gosh, it’s tiring to just stand and listen to their political talks.” Even though I’m accustomed to entertaining people, at least all I have to listen to before is about how they want to drink and be wasted all night. But now I think the conversations between really successful people are exhausting.

“Are you Mr.Callisto’s fiance?” A girl wearing a blindingly beautiful red dress went to me and asked.

I slightly smile at her and nod, “Hi, yes, I’m his fiance. How may I help you?"

Another girl showed up, so there are two of them now. They’re both wearing a blinding dress that I think is worth thousands of dollars.

“Do you mind if we sit here and chat with you?"

Of course I do. “No, not at all. Please have a seat.” Just what do they want? I have a feeling that they’re mean girls based on how they look at me.

“Thank you.” They both sat on the chairs near me and didn’t waste anymore time to ask me. “So, not to be rude, but, how did you guys meet? We’re shocked to know that Mr.Callisto is now engaged; it feels like yesterday when he was still not interested in women. Can you tell us your secret?” The first girl asks me with a smile on her face, but her eyes aren’t as happy as her lips.

They’re asking politely, but there’s meaning behind those words, as if she’s telling me how I, or someone like me, pulled Mr. Callisto.

I faked a laugh, saying, “Oh, nothing special; we met at an event that happened last year, and you know, love at first sight, hahaha."

The tip of her lips raised as she looked at me up and down, but she stopped before speaking again.

“Aw, that’s so romantic." She snatched a glass of wine from the waiter who passed by and continued, “I’ve never thought that Callisto would be engaged to someone; it’s the last thing that I thought would happen. Because, you know, Callisto and I used to date before."

She places her hands on her cheeks as if she’s reminiscing about the past.

“Oh, yeah! You both looked like a good pair back then!” Then, the other girl supported her friend’s words.

Oh, so they used to date, but what do they expect me to say? Congratulations! Did you break up? Hehehe.

I wanted to smile at my thoughts, but I didn't want to attract their attention.

“Yes, oh my, I still remember our first date; we went to this exclusive restaurant where only five people a month can enter.” Her words were covered with a sweet tone.

“Wow, that’s so sweet!” The other girl said.

“I know, right?” They both laugh in front of me.

I smiled as well and said, “Oh, I think I know what you’re referring to."

The ex-girlfriend eyed me with a shocked expression. “Oh, you do?" There's mockery in her voice.

“Yes,” I place my palm on my cheeks the same way that she does as I said, “I once wanted to go there when I had my cravings, but the restaurant was full, so Callisto, my darling, wanted to buy the WHOLE restaurant; thankfully, I stopped him. Hahaha."

I flip my hair and face them, saying, “You know, the things that he can do for me.” Then I followed it with a laugh.

Their expressions changed to an irritated one.

“Oh, that’s good.” That’s the only thing that the ex can say before excusing herself and her friend.

Hmp. I am not interested in your love interest for Callisto. You’re his ex, and so what? Do you think I’ll just fold like that?

“Damn, that made me hungry.” I looked around to find Callisto; I saw him still talking to everyone, so I decided to just eat by myself.

I’m at a high-end event; thus, the food here is of high quality.

“I wouldn’t let them slide.” I will eat them all. Kidding.

I left my chair and went to where the food was, and as expected, I received another death glare. I sat down at our table as soon as I got what I wanted and started eating.

“Fuck, why am I dizzy?” I held the table to get support. Why am I suddenly feeling this shit? I just ate; aren’t I supposed to have a lot of energy?

I waited for another minute, hoping that the dizziness would go away, but it didn’t.

“Shit. I should go to the restroom.” Luckily, the usherette told us where the restrooms are, so I don’t have to look for them myself.

"Oh gosh…" I’m starting to feel nauseous.

What the hell is happening to me?

I went inside a cubicle and sat on the toilet to rest, but the dizziness is getting worse.

Fuck…

My strength is slowly leaving my body as well. I failed when I tried to raise my hand to reach for my phone inside my bag.

I need Callisto. I need to call him, but I can’t.

“Are you ready?"

There are people outside! I need to ask for help!

“H…" But I can’t utter a single word.

“Yes, since day one."

“Good, now all you have to do is not miss; remember who your target is.”

What are they talking about?

I'm here; help me. Don’t they notice that there’s someone in this cubicle?

My head’s starting to feel light...

“Yup. Callisto, right?

“Yes.”

Huh? Did I hear Callisto’s name?

“Kill him smoothly, and you’ll get the reward from the boss.

“Got it!”

What? They’re going to kill Callisto.

I need to call him and inform him.

But as I force myself to move, the dizziness worsens, and my eyes are starting to feel heavy.

No, I can’t afford to lose consciousness here. I need to see Callisto…
