CHAPTER 2 - FIRST DAY

CHAPTER 2

Monday is the most interesting day that I'm waiting for. I'm too excited to meet my new classmates and prof. Wave wake me up that early so we can prepare for our first day. Yesterday we got our schedule and it's the same time but in a different room since our course is not the same. He's now done taking a bath, while I'm wearing the school uniform.

"I don't think it's a good thing to wear that skirt." Wave said looking at the skirt that I'm wearing right now.

"Nah, it's good. It feels like I'm an anime character." I chuckled but he didn't seem happy at all. He keeps looking at my legs and it pisses him off. 

"Do you think it's funny that I can see how slim you are in here? Do you think I will like it if you wear that thing and every boy in the campus looks at your legs too?" He said, sounds so serious in his words. 

Wave is too possessive at all things like this.

"What can I do? It's the school uniform. I can't change it."

"Damn, come here." He said and grabbed my waist around him.

"Why? What's wrong?" I asked looking at him seriously. Wave didn't like to smile at everyone since when we were in high school. He hates it when he's smiling at everyone he doesn't like at all.

"Nothing, I just missed you." He hugged me but I pushed him away. "Stop being so sweet, Wave. We're late at our first class." He chuckled and got his own bag so we could go outside.

I took a deep breath before entering the classroom. There's a lot of boys in here though it's an Engineering course. What should I expect? Maybe we're just about five girls in here.

"Hi, I'm Leila Venice. And you are?" A blonde girl asked. She let me sit beside her chair.

"I'm Elyrhia Red Thomas, called me Red instead." I smiled at her.

"You must be the Salutatorian of De La Salle High School?" I nodded.

"Well, I heard a lot about you. My classmates when I was in high school told me about you." She smiled at me.

"Really? How do your classmates know about me?"

"They are the representative's of our school in the math and science quiz bee." I see.

"Hi, I'm Oly Lawrence." The man behind me said, I just nodded at him but he offered his hand. And I accept it and give him a shake of the hand.

"Elyrhia Red Thomas, Red." I smiled at him.

"You look so pretty. Are you----" before he finally asked me to interrupt his words. It's Wave, grabbing my hand away from Oly.

"You left your phone babe. I'll call you after class and fetch you here, study well." He kissed me on my forehead and looked at Oly.

"And by the way, she's taken. I'm his boyfriend." Wave said and left our classroom. 

"Sorry about that." I said to Oly.

"It's okay, don't be sorry about it. Is he Aziwave Moreno the Varsity player at your past school?" I nodded.

"I see. I just want to make friends with you."

"Sure we can be friends, no problem." Finally our prof arrived, and he looked so strict at all times while walking and holding her school records.

We, together with my classmates remain silent for a moment that we're all waiting for her to talk in front of us. 

"Hello, Engineering 1-A. I'm Luna Olivia Lee, Miss Lol for short. I will be your homeroom adviser and teacher at calculus 1 and 2." She said raising her own eyebrows to us, and she got my attention.

"You must be Elyrhia?" I nodded.

"Come here in front and introduce yourself." I stand up and walk in front besides her.

"Hello everyone. I'm Elyrhia Red Thomas, Red for short. 19 years of age and graduated Senior High School at De La Salle high school. My favorite things to do are solving equations, especially solving mathematics and calculus, joining sports such as playing badminton, and long tennis." I took a deep breath and looked at them. They are seriously looking at me like they're about to kill me anytime.

"Do you have a boyfriend?" One of my boy classmates asked. 

"Yes, she has. Don't ask, sit and listen." Miss Lol said and looked at me again. "Proceed."

I look at her. I'm already done introducing myself. I don't think I need to explain more about me, my personal life cause it's just a simple introduction and it was just my name, and some info about me.

"Okay, take your seat. Today is the first day of your school year 2020-2021. I'm expecting everyone to be good and active in such activity academically." She said as I walked and got back to my respective seat.

She started to discuss some lessons related to her subject and some of the rules and regulations at this University. After class, I'm with Oly and Leila since they are the one who approach me here. I hope they will be my good friends, until the end of this school year. We're going to the cafeteria when someone caught my attention. A girl with weird movements, but a pretty one. Her books feel down at the floor of the lobby, I help her out. 

"Are you okay?" I asked her.

"Y-yes, thank you Red." She said without looking at me and taking off her eyeglass.

"How do you know my name?" 

"You're famous at De La Salle High School. I heard a lot about you, by the way I'm Kate. Kate Ventura, nice to finally meet you." I nodded.

"Nice to meet you too."

"I need to go, see you again." She left me alone, while I kept looking at her and watching her weird movements.

"What's wrong?" Oly asked, waiting for me.

"Who is she?"

"She's Kate Ventura, Chemical Engineering student. She's the Valedictorian of our batch when we're high school." Oh, I see. She looks so genius and gorgeous at the same time.

"I think someone's going to fetch you." Leila said looking at someone coming in our way. It's Wave, with his varsity team. I almost forgot that they enrolled at the same school as him cause they don't want to set apart.

"Elyrhia, nice to see you again." Paul said, and tapped my shoulder. 

"I hope this school is better than we expected." Luis said looking around at the whole lobby.

"This is better, don't worry dude."

"By the way, this is my new friend. Oly Lawrence and Leila Venice." They shake hands, but Wave is still looking at me like he missed something about me.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, you're just so perfect every time that I look at you." 

"Can you just two break up already?" Paul chuckled. "I'm just joking, come on. Stop that, I'm hungry." 

It's our first day here, I hope it's a good outcome for each and every one of us.

Weeks later and had passed, I can clearly see that being in college life will never be easy compared to when I was just in high school. I've been busy the whole day studying my lessons, solving calculus, making projects, reviewing for a new topic, cause I'm too competitive in something like this. Sometimes, Wave and I had no time to talk about our day and talk about something that happened in the whole day. We're still busy with our studies, and I don't want to bother him because he's too serious. He would get mad at me and I hated it.

"Next week is examination day, study hard and be in the highest ranking of this University. Let me remind you again that if you'll get in that highest ranking, you also get free access and accommodation in everything here." Miss Lol said, telling us that word is a serious matter. Highest ranking? I never heard about that. I raised my hand to ask her more about it.

"What do you mean by highest ranking and get free accommodations and access at this school?" I asked. 

"Highest ranking is the reason why Calvorie University is popular all over the University in the world. Those students who will let in there will get the free access in here. You will get free tuition free, free foods, monthly allowance and you can do whatever you want to do here. We also provide the students needs such as having their own wifi in their dormitory, air-conditioned room, and everything that students need we will provide." Omg? That's why they treated us that one. I should have asked  Byron later if he also got the same thing as we're having right now. 

"I think you and your boyfriend Aziwave Moreno already have that thing? But you're not allowed to do everything and your monthly allowance since you're not still in the highest ranking?" I nodded. 

"But why are you letting us have that thing, though we're not still at the highest ranking here? I think it's unfair."

"Simply cause we heard a lot about you and we will never lose that chance. Students like you and your boyfriend will always be lucky, cause you're famous all over the University here." She chuckled. I still didn't get her point. It's inequality but why no one's reacting? Why are they not asking me about it?

"Any questions?" 

"Nothing, thank you for answering my questions." I can't focus on the lesson today because that highest ranking keeps bothering me and I don't think it's really fair enough for students like me and how about the others that can't get in there? What will they get? 

After class, I asked Wave about Byron if what was his course so I could talk to him.

"He's Electronics Engineering." Paul said.

"Where's his room?" 

They help me to find him. And I finally found him in the library reading books again. Byron's favorite hobby is to read books. 

"Byron..." He took a glance at me for a while.

"What's the matter?"

"Is your dormitory air-conditioned and having your own wifi?" He nodded.

"Hmm, yeah. Why are you asking?"

"Do you think it's fair?"

"I don't think so. But just talk to me after the exam, I'm too busy to review."

"Are you still mad at me cause I chose Wave over you? That's why you don't want to talk to me? I'm just asking you about these things that keep bothering me cause I don't think it's fair that they treated us like a special one." 

"You don't need to say the past, Elyrhia. I'm just saying that I'm still busy. Stop bothering me at this time. I will talk to you soon."

"Okay, thank you for the nice time." I left him alone. I'll go with Wave and his friends.

"What's wrong?"

"I'm just curious about the highest ranking that they are talking about. Can't you all see that it's unfair?" 

"I don't know. But maybe Byron is right. Don't stress yourself too much baby. Let's focus on the exam next week, okay?" I nodded at him as we started to walk along the way throughout the canteen. He ordered my food.

"What do you think of Kate the Valedictorian girl in our batch? Do you think she will pass the exam for the highest ranking next week?" The girl besides our table asked her friend. I think they are talking about the other girl. Who's Kate? Her name is familiar. Did I meet her before? 

"I don't know. It's up to her. And oh--- you forgot? There's more competitive students here this school year. Haven't you heard about the best students in De La Salle High School?" The other girl with the pink ribbon hanging in her hair asked.

"You mean that varsity player?" She pouted in front, pointing Wave while ordering our food.

"Hmm, absolutely. And also his girlfriend." They look at me and wave their hands. I wave back.

"She's Elyrhia, the complete package."

"Complete package?" I don't think they know that I can hear here what they're talking about me.

"I mean she's totally perfect. She's talented, genius, and damn gorgeous. Omg, hope all!" The girl with blonde hair chuckled.

"But can we just stick to our main topic? It's not about the three best students of De La Salle. It's about the Valedictorian of our batch." 

"I almost forgot."

"But I think Kate can make it, although she's not rich just like us. Last monday, I saw her alone while everyone's eating their lunch. She's reviewing her notes instead of buying her own food and filling her hungriness." The girl with green hair said. I have this unexplainable feeling that makes me more confused at everything about that Kate. I remember her. I helped her out when someone bumped into her. But she actually looks so innocent.

"She can't afford the tuition fee here. But why is she still here, studying?" 

"I heard before that someone's supporting her financial problem. Although her father died because of heart disease. And I also heard that her mother is sick. She needs to study hard for a better future for her life and also for her mother." Damn, can I meet her now and hug her so tight?

"Really? Where is she right now?"

"Maybe she's in the library, reviewing her notes. Why are you asking?" 

"I want to give her some of my money. I have a lot of money, I don't need it." 

"You sure?"

"Yeah, we should help her."

"No, don't help her. What if we help her now and she asks again for another help from us?" 

"She's not like that, Vivoree." So, the girl with the green hair is Vivoree?

"How do you say so? Does everyone here knows about her a lot?" No one's talking.

"Hey baby. What's wrong?" Wave asked while putting down the tray of foods on the table.

"Nothing, but can we buy more foods after this?" Wave looked at me with confusion in his face.

"Why? Are you hungry? But we already ate our breakfast earlier." I chuckled.

"It's not for me, it's for someone."

"Someone?"

"Yeah, a special someone." He rolled his eyes and changed his mood suddenly.

"Are you flirting with someone here?"

"Yes." I chuckled, starting to insult him again.

"W-who? I will kill him right now!" He hissed.

"You're so funny, Wavey. It's just a girl. Special girl, don't be jealous." I winked at him.

"I know you can't do that thing. Cheating is not in your own vocabulary, that's why I love you." 

"Can you just please stop? The two of you?" Amari said. Amari is one of his friends in their varsity team.

"Why? Are you jealous?"

"Of course no! I hated it every time I saw the two of you flirting in front of us." He rolled his eyes and started to eat his french fries.
