Chapter 1

Author: Strawberry Spring Roll
Yvonne Sunderland wanted to see the aurora one last time before she died. However, she kept hearing violent shakes and the moans of a woman from the tent beside hers. As such, she could not sleep.

She got out of her tent, only to suddenly hear a loud crash. It was from the tent beside hers; it had collapsed.

The man who came out first held a blushing woman tightly in his arms. He was smiling gently.

Right then, Yvonne’s feet seemed to be stuck to the ground. She could not take another step.

When the man saw her, his smile vanished.

He was Zach Frank, her husband who was supposed to have been dead for twenty years.

At that moment, Yvonne figured everything out.

Before she could even demand an answer, an avalanche suddenly struck. Everyone died after they were swept under it.

The last thing Zach said was, “I’ve repaid all your favors with my life. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t marry you. I’d rather meet her first.”

When Yvonne opened her eyes again, she found that she had returned to the past. She was back in the first year of her marriage with Zach.

With dull eyes, she looked at the decorations around her as his final words echoed in her mind.

She sat on the couch stiffly as a dull pain spread through her heart. It was as if a sharp knife was constantly twisting around it. The pain was so great that she could not breathe.

Zach was not dead. Instead, he was living a life with another woman…

Things had happened so quickly and suddenly that she never managed to ask for a reason.

Just then, Yvonne’s phone rang, and she moved her numb body to answer it.

“Honey, Robin asked us out for dinner. Get ready a little earlier. I’ll pick you up after work.”

Zach was still calling her with that affectionate title, and for a second there, Yvonne thought she was hearing things.

It was as if everything that had happened before was just a nightmare.

Zach arrived on time and hugged Yvonne tightly right after he stepped into the house. “Are you cold? Why are you shivering?”

She gave him a distressed look but found herself unable to ask for answers at present.

He was not the forty-four-year-old Zach. He would not be able to give her the reason.

In the front passenger seat were cakes Zach had bought beforehand. All of them were flavors that Yvonne loved.

When he saw that she was not picking them up, he asked in puzzlement, “Why aren’t you eating them?”

Yvonne lowered her head and quietly tied the bag up. “There’s too much sugar in these cakes. I don’t want to eat them.”

Zach did not know this, but after he “died,” Yvonne cut off all sweets from her diet. Those sugary treats were sweet on the tongue, but once their flavor dissipated, all that was left was bitterness.

The cakes before her dragged her back to the cold, harsh reality. She stared fixedly at the man before her as he brought her hand up to his lips.

“What’re you staring at?”

Yvonne did not answer.

She was just wondering when Zach fell for another woman, even though he loved her so much. When did he start planning to fake his death and leave her side?

Once they arrived at their dinner venue, he held her hand and headed to the room. As they passed by another room, they noticed the door was slightly ajar.

From where Yvonne and Zach stood, they could see that the room was filled with cigarette smoke. Laughter from men and women mixed, and someone was cheering for another person to drink.

She only took a quick glance, but Zach stopped.

Caught off guard, she ran into his arm and looked at him with a frown. To her surprise, Zach’s expression was as dark as a thundercloud.

“I left something in the car, honey. Head to the room first.”

With that, Zach left and did not say another word to her. He did not even tell her what the room number was.

As Yvonne watched him leave, all life was sucked out from her eyes.

She had checked before getting out of the car; there was nothing inside.

Zach was lying.

It was also his first time lying to her after they had been together for so long.

Pier grabbed her phone and helped her cut the call short. “If you’ve already decided not to go, why bother listening to her rant?”Yvonne smiled at him. “I’m just curious.”“About what?”“She’s a failure of a mother, but how crazy would she be if she lost her only pillar of support?”Pier raised an eyebrow in consideration but said nothing. He was not interested in Zach’s family affairs. At his reaction, Yvonne laughed even more. “They have a new barbeque place in the east. Did you know that?”Yvonne’s question caught him off guard, and he shook his head in surprise. It was her first time seeing such an expression on him, and she found it funny. It gave her a huge boost of courage. With a giggle, she pinched his cheeks. “You’re so silly. I’m saying that I want barbeque!”Yvonne turned around to pack up and left Pier to relish the feeling of being teased by her. “Mr. Frank, are we still going to pull out Zach Frank’s oxygen supply?”Pier’s subordinate quietly appr

“Yvonne… are you refusing to see me because of Lucius?” Zach practically had to cough those words out as if he had a bone in his throat. “Trust me. I have my reasons for this. Samuel and the Frank family forced me to—”“Zach, don’t you find that you think too highly of yourself?”Pier walked forward from behind Yvonne and took the bag from her hands. “Yvonne has never placed any hopes on you, much less wanted you to exact revenge for her.”Yvonne’s gaze landed on Pier’s face, and her heart started racing. Her reaction made Zach bite down on his lip so hard that it bled. He even started to tremble uncontrollably. With hatred burning in him, he looked at Pier. “It’s all because of you!”He charged forward to hit Pier, but Yvonne shielded him. “Have you lost your mind, Zach?!“The Frank family is already in hot water. I suggest you think about what you should be doing for your future instead!”Yvonne grabbed Pier’s arm and pulled him into the house. She did not notice Pie

Pier knew that Zach would cave. From the shadows, he handed over all the evidence of Lucius and Frank Corporation’s crimes. Over the years, he had kept himself hidden so that he could investigate all of the Frank family’s crimes. He did not lie to Yvonne. While he was a Frank, he never treated himself as part of the family. He never wanted to become the head of the Frank family. That family was nothing to him! With the evidence Yvonne provided and with Pier pushing things along, Lucius could not run from getting convicted. Meanwhile, various departments also started investigating the Frank family. One day, Yvonne met Bella again at the entrance to a pub. She was just passing by when a drunk Bella grabbed her. “I knew it, Yvonne! You’re not dead!”Bella glared at her with seething hatred. However, Yvonne just pried her hand away coldly. “Whether I’m dead or not is none of your business.”Her indifferent attitude agitated Bella. Lately, Zach had refused to answer h

Zach got himself drunk, and all he could think about was Yvonne’s voice, smile, and face. When Bella dropped by, the door was still open. With a resentful expression, she stared at the man she had loved dearly for two lifetimes. She could not understand. Why did things turn out like this this time?In the previous timeline, Zach had left Yvonne and eloped with her. She was just a little greedier this time. She wanted both Zach and wealth, but he ended up not loving her anymore. Bella stormed over to Zach. One of her fingers was missing. Not once since he came back did he ask about her, even though she was scared in the hospital and plagued by nightmares at night. Yet, he left the country without a single word. At this very moment, he even drank himself into a stupor while calling out Yvonne’s name. Bella had a knife hidden behind her back. As it shone with an icy glint, she approached Zach slowly. In his daze, he looked at her lovingly as if he was hallucinating. “H

Despite the sincerity in his eyes, it did not move Alora, who found him an extreme eyesore. “Don’t even think about giving me such promises. I’ve never liked you. You’re a scheming, conniving brat. Even when you knew that others didn’t like you and the Frank family treated you like a thorn in their side, you stuck to Yvonne like glue. I still hate that I let you take advantage of her when I was busy arguing with her father!”Zach pursed his lips, and his eyes were determined. “I won’t leave unless I see Yvonne.”“Fine. Just wait here.”Alora then slammed the door shut. The tension on Zach’s face never left. When Yvonne returned, she did so with Pier beside her. Since he was worried that she would feel cold, he gave her his jacket. In the next second, Zach charged toward them. “Keep your dirty hands off her!”However, before he could get closer to Yvonne, Pier blocked his path. “Yvonne, he’s approaching you for the Frank family! You have to believe me! Come with me! I’

Pier looked away with disappointment in his eyes. However, he regained his cool in the next second. “Why are you apologizing? I just wanted to say that I have the ingredients to make a mean minestrone soup. Do you trust me?“Didn’t you previously say that you wanted to have minestrone soup so badly that you couldn’t sleep?”Yvonne looked at Zach in surprise. Then, she chuckled under his gaze. “How did you know?”Pier laughed along with her. He could not tell her that to win her heart, he had his trusted subordinate become her assistant, right? He rubbed his nose and grinned bashfully. “Your mom told me.”“Heh. What else did she say?”“She said you craved it so much that you drooled in your sleep.”“I did not!”Yvonne’s smile widened, and Pier saw it out of the corner of his eye. Right then, he felt warmth in his chest. It did not matter if his progress was slow. He was certain that he could make her fall in love with him. He was also confident that he could ma
