“Is someone home?” Aiden’s teasing voice came from the door.

Just from his accent, Valeria knew exactly who it was.

“No. Go away,” she snapped.

“Aww! Now the mama bear is kicking me out? My heart’s broken,” Aiden pretended to be sad, then made a pouty face.

Valeria stared at him blankly for a moment before finally laughing along.

“Good to see you too, mama bear,” Aiden muttered while pinching her cheek between his fingers.

“Dummy!” Valeria shouted, brushing his hand away and rubbing her cheek that hurt. “But I can’t say the same,” she added, only getting a big grin back. “Grab those files and get out!” she said as she walked toward Sean’s office.

Even though it wasn’t the first time she’d been in that room, Valeria was still impressed. The big space was split in two. One side was filled wall-to-wall with bookshelves—from kids’ books to adult novels. There was a comfy sofa, some bean bags, and a coffee machine. The other side looked like a mini office, with colorful file

Valeria’s heart was pounding. For a moment, she actually thought she might have a heart attack. Finally, the truth that had haunted her mind for so long was about to come out. She sat on the sofa in the corner of the study, watching Sean pace back and forth. Valeria closed her eyes as a sharp pain started throbbing in her head. “Sean! Can you stop pacing for a second? My head’s killing me,” she complained, rubbing her forehead. “You okay? Want to lie down for a bit?” Sean asked, trying to sound concerned. But Valeria knew him too well. He was just stalling. “No! I want to hear everything now. It’s past one already,” she said, glancing at the watch on Sean’s wrist. Oddly enough, for someone rich, Sean only ever wore that one watch. Most rich people have a whole collection and switch it up all the time. She remembered once catching a glimpse of a row of fancy watches in his closet when the door was left open. They all looked untouched. She shook her head, forcing herself to

"Valeria!" She stopped in her tracks when she heard her name. She knew exactly who it was. With a resigned sigh, she waited for Ben to catch up. "You can't run anymore," Ben said, standing right in front of her. Valeria looked at his face—tired but firm. "I know," she said quietly. Ben grabbed her hand and led her to the metal chairs lining the empty hallway. The dim lights buzzed softly above them. Visiting hours were technically over, but they had been allowed to stay late to be with Esther and the baby. Valeria had been on her way to grab a coffee when Ben found her. She sat silently, avoiding his gaze. Ben looked more restless by the second. "Are you gonna talk, or do I have to start asking everything one by one?" His voice was low, but there was an edge to it. Valeria knew she couldn't avoid this any longer. She took a deep breath and began. She told him about the fire at the shop, about how her life had fallen apart, and her current job at the hotel. But she left

Not long after Valeria and Esther started chatting, panic set in when Esther suddenly said her water had broken. Valeria immediately called her driver to get the car, while Carter just sat there, frozen in place. It was kind of funny watching Esther dig her nails into his arm to snap him out of it. "Are they okay?" Sean asked when Valeria came back to the waiting room. "Yeah! Lily’s cooking noodles for them," Valeria replied with a smile. "They’re gonna have a long night," Sean chuckled. "She’ll be fine," he added, giving Valeria’s hand a warm squeeze. Strangely, that touch calmed her. Maybe she wouldn’t have worried so much if the doctor hadn’t mentioned some possible complications with the delivery. They all sat in the waiting room, hopeful. Carter was still inside with his wife. Valeria glanced to her right, trying to check on Carter. To her surprise, the man had completely passed out, mouth wide open. She was so tempted to stick a piece of bitter melon in his mouth b

Creak.Creak.The chair kept creaking as Valeria rocked back and forth on it, staring at the photos in her lap. Her mind was a mess. The threats to her kids and herself that had been haunting her were now completely overshadowed by one thing—those photos. In them, Sean stood next to a woman dressed in white. It clearly wasn’t Alexa. No matter how similar they looked, the expression, the shape of the eyebrows, and the smile were different.Valeria knew the woman in the photo was her. She still remembered the day Karen first saw her and burst into tears. Sean had said it was because she looked a lot like Karen’s daughter. But Valeria never imagined that the resemblance actually meant something deeper.Everyone knew how much the past meant to her. Finding out the truth about it was the one thing she wanted more than anything. So why would anyone hide something like this from her? Why would they mess with her head like this? She looked at the next photo, and her eyes locked onto a full ve

The Next Day "Here," Lily said, handing Valeria a glass of water for her headache medicine. "Thanks," Valeria replied with a small smile before drinking it. She sighed in relief as the warm water slid down her throat, easing the pain in her head a little. "Good morning!" Sean greeted cheerfully. "Good morning!" the kids shouted as they ran over and kissed his cheeks. "How are you feeling?" he asked Valeria. "Headache," she said with a soft shake of her head. "Let’s go to the doctor," Sean responded right away. "I already called one. He said I just need to take the meds for now, but if the pain doesn’t go away, I have to go to the hospital," Valeria explained. "He also said not to wait too long. If it’s still bad tonight, I need to go in," Lily added. "We’re going to the hospital tonight then!" Sean said firmly before Valeria could say anything. But the sound of a car pulling up outside stopped the conversation. They all looked toward the door, curious about who c
