LOGINDante’s POV
I sat in my office drumming my fingers incessantly on the mahogany tables. The polished sheen surface reflecting the frown on my face. He was late. Baron Pascal that is. The lousy bastard who thought he could do as he liked and go scot free. Not in my world. Not on my terms. A knock came on the door and in walked Isabella. She strolled to a stop in front of my desk. “Pascal called to say he’s on his way.” “What does the fucker think this is? His kid’s birthday?” I couldn’t help but scoff. “I doubt he thinks less of you Dante. But I have to say,” I met Isabella’s eyes with a raised brow. “The underlings have been moving a bit too loose lately.” “Don’t remind me. It’s starting to make me trigger happy.” “Admirable but undavisable.” She kept a curt smile on her face. “You can be annoying at times Bella.” “I try my best.” she swept her hair behind her shoulder. “We can shoot Pascal after he gives us what we need. I’ll even pick out the gun.” “Of course you will.” I chuckled. Out of all the guys in the building, Bella was the closest thing to a friend. She kept things professional between us but still maintained a friendly undertone. We’d been like this since we were much younger. She’d been by my side longer than the other two idiots. “He’s here.” She informed me while glancing at her phone. “Fucking finally.” My fingers drummed against the desk some more. “Should I go accompany him?” “He has a brain. Let him use it for once.” Bella hummed finding a place next to the desk to stand as we awaited Baron. No sooner than later a knock came. Baron stepped in with two of his lackeys not too far behind. I kept my lips tight. Offence on my turf? The neantherdal must have lost the brain I thought he had. “Boss.” He greeted. His accent permeating the cool air. I nodded to the brown leather chairs set a few metres from my desk. The small man took a seat, relaxing into it like he owned the place. “You’re late.” I stated. “Sorry about that Boss, the traffic in this city is fucking hell I tell ya.” “Are you making excuses?” I met his eyes, he didn’t break eye contact. “Nothing like that Boss. Just stating a point.” My head pulsed. This bastard was giving me a headache. I grimaced at his audacity. I had begun to wonder why all these underlings shared the same brain cell. It was one to the next with them. And to say my patience was tested was the least of it. I watched him settle a little more into his seat. Rubbing his stubble with his knuckles. “I didn’t expect such a call on short notice boss. It aint like you.” “Telling me how to behave Pascal?” “Nothing like that boss. Just that with everything going on and the feds sniffing up some people’s asses lately, it was a lil’ unexpected.” “The feds should be the least of your worries.” My voice was low and firm. I’m who you should be worried about, you fat pig. “They aint. Just saying--” “I believe in transparency when we have dealings Baron. You know that. I shouldn’t remind you.” I drummed my fingers on my desk again, already fed up of having to humour the idiot. Baron nodded, the motion almost frantic. “I know, Boss. I don’t need no reminders.” “So what happened with you and Diego? You took my money and I saw nothing.” “Boss, to be honest with you.” his face twisted in a crooked grin. “I had no idea what the fuck went on.” “Hmm?” I raised a brow. “My guys got there when them assholes were going ballistic. We couldn’t get anything while they were in the thick of it. Safe to say, it isn’t our fault them asshats decided to go guns blazing.” “So…” I trailed off. My eyes barely squinted on his too amused face. “We’ve got nothing.” I begged to differ. Diego and the serpents pull off a stunt like that and my goods go missing? Baron was a rat. A thieving rat. He adjusted himself in the seat, the same stupid grin on his face. “I don’t want to be that guy boss. The bearer of bad news, but it’s gotta be said--” “It isn’t a complete deal if we don’t have the drugs we paid you for.” Bella interrupted. Baron glared up at her. “You trying to be smart mouthy? You broads should know better than to talk when men talk.” I sat back. I knew men like Baron like the back of my palm. Conniving and clever when it came to making a quick easy buck, but when it was with women, he was one track minded and stuck in the stone age. No wonder his wife left him. That useless mindset of his would be his reckoning. I opened my mouth to speak. “Men, get this floosy outta here.” He ordered to his lackeys. Isabella glanced at me and we had a second of understanding. “My apologies sir.” She said to me. “Take your time.” I replied. Pacal’s men and Bella met in the middle of the room. I simply grinned to myself. They were in for it. As the two men attempted to grab her she made her move. Quick and sufficient. Knocking one of the men over and back into the side of the bar. She grabbed the other pinning him to the floor. The other guy stumbled to his feet, pulling out a gun from under his shirt. Isabella rammed her feet into the incoming lackey’s knee, disarming him with one swift motion. She pointed the gun at that one man, removing the handgun secured in the second one’s holster. Baron stood to protest when Isabella pointed the gun straight at his forehead stopping him in his tracks. “One muscle out of place from either of you, and I blow your brains out.” She informed all three men. Baron settled back into his seat. I stood from my chair, rounded the table and sat right on the edge so I could face the son of a bitch. “Now, shall we begin?” I asked rolling up my sleeves. I watched the poor sucker stare up at me with worried eyes. Like I said. I should’ve been the top of his worries.Dante's POV Rehabilitation wasn't one of my strongest suits. It was in no way sexy. I preferred to cut the weeds out before they started getting out of hand, taking what they had no right to have in first place. But as it turns out, even weeds have things I wanted. I could almost see the look on her face. When she'd set her eyes on her. I wished I was there to see it. Both women realising that things didn't go as planned. I mostly looked forward to Lily's. Her looks were ones I liked to decipher. She hid so much behind them, unlike Kerry. I could tell what makes people were thinking with just a look and one which Kerry had before handing me the information I needed to help in the goals of this impromptu visit. “He's got some people, says he infiltrated the syndicate or shit like that. That's what my people tell me.” She'd almost begged me to listen to her ramblings. “I can get some more. I have more peop
Lily's POV The past two days where one of the most peaceful my nights had been. Maybe it was the milky beverage Rosa brought to me or the piano that played for the second time yesterday. Or both. All I know is I slept really well. Save for a few jolts here and there. I sat in the back seat of the car watching the vegetation and then people flash by.The memory of Mr Moretti playing in my head from a few nights ago. It bordered on him actually behaving like a human being—touchable—for second then moving to his unfortunate self. What else could I say? He was quite the puzzle. One I wasn't so keen on figuring out unless it spelt my freedom. “What she had coming to her.” What did that even mean? I may have escalated the situation to new heights but that reply escalated my heart rate every time I thought about it. The idea of Kerry lying somewhere, possibly a ditch or a river. My mind was scrambling to think of ideas. I didn't kn
Lily's POV Of all the people to catch me out here it just had to be this guy. This fucking guy. I placed a free hand on my chest trying to catch my breath. My heart thundered against my rib cage and I was sure I was a few seconds from imploding. “I just came to get some air.” I replied. “Hmm.” He kept his gaze on me, I felt uneasy. “Mind if I join you then?”“What? Why?” He tilted his head a bit to the left. “Right, it's your house.”“I didn't ask if it's my house. I merely asked to join you.” I looked off to the side, swearing under my breath. Getting one upped by a mafia boss was never in my bingo cards. Who was I kidding, these past few weeks hadn't been close to anything I dreamed about. Quite the contrary. He stepped down from the door and stood next to me, the sun had already set and a dark sky was upon us. The garden suddenly lit up with bright warm lights. I had to stare, I had never been in the ga
Dante's POV Home felt a little different lately. Maybe it's because I'd been somewhat avoiding some responsibilities. I hadn't gone to work in a while, not that it mattered. Bella kept me updated every step of the way. Too diligent that one. But without her I would've fallen off on some occasions prior. Luca was doing a lot better thanks to her constant watch over him. If no one watched him during times like this we would have been having different discussions. I met with the families of the lost men a day earlier. The only time I stepped out of the house. It wasn't pretty. To say they were devastated was a terrible understatement. All I could provide like Rosa had reiterated was comfort. It's something my mother did really well. She was the perfect person to handle situations like this. The Moretti family had been built on a lot of things but support for the people working for us was a major priority. They were family too. I wasn't t
Dante's POV My eyes darted at the activity in the room. My men unplugging and getting the flat screen TV. I could see the three bullet holes I put through the screen. It wasn't enough. Maybe just one more or several would do the trick. Looking away from the remnant of the TV I shut my eyes. The door clicked closed.“Anything from Luca?” I asked. “Nothing.” Bella replied. “I'm still trying to get someone who was on scene.”“Shit.”“You don't think he actually got his brain blown out.” Matteo echoed the thoughts plaguing my mind. I opened my eyes, staring at the view behind me through my wide windows. The busy road downtown looked untouched. Lucky bastards. It was one thing to lose my men in a brawl but it another thing to lose one of my main men to a brawl like this. Shit, I didn't even know where to start or what to think. I swiveled to face them again. The door creaked open and in walked—stumbled
Dante's POV I was feeling trigger happy again. But this time around I would probably do it. “Open the fucking box.” I ordered. “Sir?” The man at the other end of my office door paled. Some guys for a man who literally let that thing in here. Isabella pointed her gun straight at the man, her gaze unshaken. “You heard the boss, open the damn box.”Why the hell would a box have been delivered so very discreetly to my office building and why the fuck had I hired idiots who just brought it in without so much as a security check. I didn't know exactly what the fuck to be baffled by. Stupidity or audacity. Ne opened the box slowly. The white casing flashing against the lights in the room. “The fuck is in it?” “A phone.” What the fuck?He panicked suddenly. “Hey, get your act together what the fuck is wrong with you?”He mumbled some words under his breath.
Dante's POV Now how would I rate my day today?Sigh.Cluster fucking Fuck. And that wasn't even the half of this shit. To think that 24 hours—incomplete by this time—was enough for shit to come tumbling down like it was some feeble wall of Jericho. I inhaled
Lily's POV The water was warm when I managed to get my body to adjust to the hot temperature. Something about the hits and misses of today hadn't left my body. I shut my eyes for what felt like an hour. I don't know how long I've been in the bathroom but I don't think I want to leave ju
Lily's POV The food tasted sour in my mouth. Tony had gotten it from the hotel kitchen. Apparently we had a hotel connected to the club. Rather random if you asked me. But then everything about this place made my skin crawl in an odd way. Especially him. I could stil
Lily's POV This man is a sicko. He watched as I just got dragged and almost raped and he still did nothing. I hadn't been able to focus on the man he'd been torturing, I had to control my heartbeat. The fear of what was about to be that didn't end up being. The moment flashed t
