Mabel’s POV

"I'm ready. Do I look weird in this?" I stepped out of the dressing room, tugging at the hem of my shorts. Ronan hadn’t moved an inch since I left. His eyes were on me, and it made my skin prickle.

"Is something wrong?" I asked.

Ronan blinked, like I’d just pulled him out of a daze. He swallowed hard. "Uh… no. You’re fine."

Fine? His voice cracked. He looked like he was trying not to choke on his own tongue.

"You sure?" I tilted my head.

"Yeah. Totally. Just—wait for me on the mat. I’ll grab some water." He spun away fast, muttering something about cooling off.

When he came back, he moved stiffly, shoulders locked. He didn’t look at me much. My stomach twisted with guilt. He could’ve been at the festival, surrounded by people who adored him. Instead, he was stuck here with me.

"We can skip this," I offered. "You probably have other things to do.

Mabel’s POV / Zane’s POV“Why’d you bring me here?” I asked, my voice low.Ronan dropped onto the grass beside me, not too close, not too far. A careful distance. His eyes flicked to the rocks behind us, then back to the wide lake in front.“This is where I hide when I want peace,” he said. The air smelled of damp earth and pine. The festival noise carried across the water, faint enough to feel unreal, like it belonged to another world.I drew my knees to my chest and pressed my chin against them. “It’s quiet.”“You like it?”I gave a small nod. “It’s beautiful.”Ronan leaned back on his palms. “I figured you’d appreciate it.”He tried to sound casual, but I caught the way he kept glancing at me. Waiting. Wondering. I wasn’t in the mood to talk, but silence made him restless. My eyes stayed on the rippling lake. If I let my mind go blank, the ache in my chest dulled. I had practiced that trick bac

Mabel’s POV“Where’s Navy?” I asked Iver, Otis, and Finch as we headed toward the main street where the parade would pass. They came into view without her, and even though I already knew the answer, I couldn’t help but ask.“We lost her at the seafood stand,” Otis said with a shrug.Finch grinned. “She wasn’t into barbequed squid. Nena and Nessa skipped that too, but at least they hung around.”I pressed my lips into a thin line, and Iver caught it.“You want to meet up with her? She’s probably on the rooftop at city hall. That’s where the big shots will be watching.”He made it sound tempting. A rooftop view. The perfect place to see the floats roll by. But I shook my head.“No. Just curious.”I had no desire to squeeze myself in among Alphas and officials. That rooftop was for people who mattered. I wasn&rsq

Mabel’s POV“So, what do you even do here at the Stonebrook pack?” Navy tilted her head at me.“I’m helping in the kitchen.”Her eyebrow jumped. “Alpha Zane put you to work already?”“No.” I shook my head fast. “I asked for it. I wanted to learn how to cook, and sitting in a room all day is boring.” I caught her eyes softening and rushed to add, “I’m also studying medicine. I hope to work in the pack hospital. Plus, Ronan is training me, so I’m learning to fight.”“Really?”I pointed toward Ronan across the table. “That’s him. He made a routine for me. We’re heading to the training center after this.”“You’re skipping the festival?” Her lips pulled down. She clearly wanted to stay in a group.“We won’t go right away. Exercising right after food is bad.

Mabel’s POV“You really going to tell me you don’t see it?” Navy asked, her eyes sharp as glass.Zane had left with Adrian and Sullivan, pulled into some Alpha-only meeting inside the packhouse. None of them had wanted to go, that much was obvious. Zane wanted to stay near me. Adrian and Sullivan had their own reasons, but Zane managed to keep my attention through the entire lunch anyway. If Adrian and Sullivan wanted a chance, they’d need Zane out of the way.Navy wasn’t allowed in the meeting. She wasn’t an Alpha or a future one, so she stayed behind. No way she’d waste hours sitting around in the packhouse while the festival was in full swing. Before Zane left, I gave him the bag with the jersey and pins. He walked off with the trophy too. All I kept was the insulated bag Tina packed. I planned on enjoying that food sooner or later.I wanted to sit with Ronan and the others,

  • Captured by the Alpha's Love   Chapter 104

Mabel’s POV“Why are you sitting so close, Zane?”His arm was already around my waist before I could shift away. Adrian’s eyes darkened, but Zane only pulled me tighter, like he owned the space.“You heard the coach,” Zane said, his voice calm but sharp. “Mabel showed everyone how weak the Blue River pack was. They didn’t even make it to the semifinals.”Adrian’s jaw clenched. He didn’t need to say it. Zane had just called his whole pack losers. My stomach twisted. Zane’s hip pressed against mine. If I moved any closer, I’d end up in his lap.He released me only when I froze, and then turned his glare back on Adrian.“Maybe losers should focus on training instead of trying to poach my people.”So this was about me. Adrian’s smirk gave it away. He didn’t like Zane lying earlier, pretending I wasn’t important
