Tyler’s POV

"Why are you leaving so suddenly?" Alpha Gregory's voice echoed down the stairs, his footsteps hurrying to catch up with me and Vivian as we made our way toward the exit.

How should I know? I shot the thought through the mind-link to Vivian, the frustration palpable.

"Something came up," Vivian said, her voice steady, but the lie hung in the air like smoke.

She wasn't technically wrong. Something had come up, but none of us knew what. Zane's orders had been sudden, and they left no room for questions.

Since we had arrived at the Silverwood Pack, Zane had been all over the place—moody, unpredictable. One minute, he wanted to leave, the next, he'd change his mind without warning. Today felt different. He'd actually had us pack, had us ready to go.

As we reached the front door, I felt the weight of Zane's unpredictability hanging in the air, thick like a storm cloud. Vivian and I had lost track of how many times we'd heard him say we were leaving, only to be told otherwise moments later. But this time... it was happening. We were finally leaving.

Earlier, Zane had sent a mind-link, his message cutting through our sleep like a knife: “Tyler, park the car by the side of the house, pack up everything, tell Alpha Gregory we're leaving, and meet me outside. Fifteen minutes, go.”

No one had questioned him, though we all knew it was a bit... off. But hey, we were happy to be going. Maybe with some distance, Zane’s mind would clear, and things could go back to normal—whatever that meant anymore.

Just as we were about to step out the door, Lydia came running down the stairs, a robe hastily thrown over her nightgown.

Her father had called for her—no time for anything else.

Outside, Zane was leaning on the car, looking like he was ready to bolt at any moment. He didn't waste time, his eyes snapping to mine as I approached.

“Put the bags in the back seat and start the car,” he said, his tone low, urgent.

I did exactly what he asked—no questions, no hesitation. Zane’s orders were the law.

Turning to Alpha Gregory, Zane’s voice dropped to a serious tone. “Something came up. We need to return to our pack.”

Gregory’s face hardened, clearly concerned. “What about the marriage agreement with Lydia?”

The question hung in the air, uncomfortable.

Zane glanced at Lydia, her anxious gaze locked on him, her hand clutching the robe tightly. “We’ll deal with that later,” Zane said, his voice flat. “Marriage is something that needs careful thought, not something we rush into.”

Gregory’s face faltered, frustration and disbelief twisting on his features. What could he say? That he was forcing his daughter to marry someone she barely knew? Not exactly the best look.

Zane raised his hand, signaling the end of the conversation. "We’re leaving now. I'll talk to you later, Gregory."

With that, Zane climbed into the car, and I slid into the driver’s seat. “Are we finally leaving?” I asked, my hands tight on the wheel.

Zane gave a short nod. “Get us out of here. Did you pack everything?”

I grinned, trying to lighten the mood. “Everything, except for some... interesting fabric. I figured you wouldn't need those, so I tucked them under the bed.”

Zane didn’t respond, his mind clearly somewhere else. It was all about getting away from here, and he didn’t want to waste time on anything else.

Vivian shot me a look, then turned her attention back to the road ahead. She didn’t want to be the one to ask questions about Zane’s state of mind. Neither of us did. We just wanted out of the Silverwood pack, away from the mess.

As we drove, I couldn’t help but wonder if Zane’s mood would settle once we left this place. He seemed to want to get away so badly, but I feared that as soon as we were out of here, he'd change his mind again.

The last thing I wanted was to be back here again.

Back at the Silverwood pack, Alpha Gregory sat in his study, frustration etched on his face. He didn’t even bother to mask the annoyance in his voice when he turned to Lydia.

“Are you sure nothing happened? Did you do something to upset him?”

Lydia just stared at her father, helplessness painting her features. She wasn’t about to admit that Zane had ordered her to strip and then left her hanging. No, that would be too embarrassing, too much for anyone to believe.

"After dinner, he said he was tired," Lydia said quietly. "He went to his room. I waited for him in the lounge, but he didn't come out. Then you called me."

Gregory sighed, rubbing his temples. He knew what had happened—Zane had slipped through his fingers once again.

"Stay in contact with him, Lydia. Call him, text him—whatever it takes," Alpha Gregory ordered. “You two are in a relationship now. Don’t let him forget it. If he pulls out of this marriage, it’s on you.”

Lydia nodded. She had no choice but to obey. If Zane changed his mind, she would bear the brunt of the blame.

Gregory’s voice dropped, the weight of his words landing heavy on her shoulders. “One week. Get a wedding date, or I’ll send you to the Stonebrook pack.”

Lydia’s heart sank, but she didn’t argue. She couldn’t.

As she walked out of the study, she tried to keep up the facade, but as soon as she was alone, the weight of what lay ahead crushed her.

One week.

How could she win Zane back in that time?

The problem wasn't that she had failed once—she feared she would fail again.

The night she had spent with him replayed in her mind. His kiss had been rough, commanding, and the way he had touched her... she had nearly given in. But her hesitation had caused the rift. She knew it.

She needed to find a way to fix things... or everything would fall apart.

But as she opened the door to Zane's room, her thoughts were interrupted.

Something was wrong.

Something was missing.

Mabel’s POVI barely registered the last stretch of forest clearing before we were standing before it—the packhouse. My heart skipped, and my feet dragged like lead. The perfectly manicured lawn, the towering mansion—everything felt wrong, too structured, too perfect. Not like the freedom of the woods. The grass beneath my feet turned to soft, reluctant steps as I approached. A shiver of discomfort twisted in my gut. This was it. This would be home."Here we are, Mabel," Zane’s voice broke through the stillness, firm and matter-of-fact as his hand tugged me forward.Home?I tried to hold my thoughts steady, but all I could think was: This is not home. I didn’t belong here. Not in this massive, grand place. The packhouse was for people like Zane—those who mattered. But me? I was no one. Just a girl with nowhere else to go.I forced myself to look around, needing to stay alert, just in case. You never know when you’ll need to make a quick exit. The packhouse was bigger than the one at S

(Mabel's POV)"Are you alright?" Zane asked, his voice cutting through the quiet of the night as we stepped out of the pack hospital."Yeah. Thank you, Alpha Zane," I answered, almost automatically. The words slipped out, but as soon as I said them, I realized the mistake.Zane arched an eyebrow. "Did you forget already?"My gaze shifted, unsure of what he meant. He smirked, his eyes glinting with mischief. "Just Zane. Say it."I hesitated. The Alpha wasn’t supposed to be addressed like that, especially not when there were eyes everywhere. But Zane wasn’t giving in. His smirk deepened, and I felt the weight of his expectation.I sighed and lowered my voice, scanning the area for any pack members who might overhear. "Zane."His face lit up with a victorious grin. "Do you want to walk, or should I call a car? The packhouse is about fifteen minutes away, if we cut through the forest."I didn’t understand why he was giving me a choice, but I wasn’t going to question it. "Anything is fine,

Mabel's POVThe moment I saw Trav walk into the exam room, I froze. The sterile scent of antiseptic hung thick in the air, and there I was—draped in that ridiculous hospital gown, feeling like the world could see every bruise and cut on my body.Nellie was drawing my blood, and Nettie was busy collecting swabs from my nose and mouth. But it was Trav who had my attention. His gaze lingered on the bruises, the marks that had become too familiar to me, too much of a reminder of what I'd endured.I caught his eye and saw the flicker of concern, but he didn’t say anything. He didn’t need to. Zane had already told him about my lack of a wolf, how it was affecting my healing. For a werewolf, these injuries wouldn’t take long to heal—maybe a day or two. But for someone like me, someone without a wolf, it could take weeks. His eyes fell to my bandaged wrist, and I felt the tension rise in my chest. The last thing I wanted was to rehash the details. But Trav didn’t hesitate."Who did this?" His

Mabel’s POVThe sun was barely over the horizon when we finally pulled up. Tyler's voice was a little too cheerful as he muttered, “Home sweet home. Welcome to the Stonebrook pack, Mabel.”I looked out the window, trying to take in the unfamiliar scenery. Tall trees passed in a blur as the car navigated a winding road. We slowed as we entered a town, and Vivian leaned forward, offering a casual explanation.“This is Brimvale,” she said, her tone light. “Everyone here belongs to the Stonebrook pack.”I took in the neat rows of houses with pretty backyards. But as we neared the town center, the buildings grew taller, crowded into two-story blocks that pressed together like old friends. We passed a few shops—nothing fancy, but everything seemed... well-loved."We’re getting close to the center," Vivian continued, her words fading as I watched a bakery, a clothing boutique, and a bookstore slide past us. There was a butcher's shop, a tattoo parlor—everything a person might need within wal

Mabel’s POVI felt the weight of Vivian’s gaze on me as she braided my hair, the strands pulling and tugging with a gentle rhythm.“All done,” she said with a satisfied hum.I glanced at the braids falling neatly over my shoulder, my fingers brushing them. "Thank you. This is beautiful," I said, my voice quieter than I intended, still caught up in the surprise of how well it turned out.“You’re welcome,” she replied, her smile softening. But then, her voice dropped to a whisper as she leaned closer. “You have gorgeous eyes, you know. Let me do your makeup next time?”I blinked, unsure if I should take the compliment or the offer. Both caught me off guard.Seeing my hesitation, Vivian chuckled and patted my shoulder. “No worries. We’ll do it later. We should go now.”She sent a quick thought to Zane via mind-link that we were ready to leave, and it wasn’t long before he appeared in the doorway.I could feel his eyes on me even before I looked up. Mabel’s POV“Are you sure this is necessary?” I whispered, tugging the bathrobe tighter around me as Zane’s breath ghosted across my shoulder.“You’ve got some deep bruises,” he murmured, so close I could feel the warmth of his lips near my skin. “Another layer of cream might help.”I jerked away before I could stop myself. My cheeks burned hot, and I cursed silently. Why did I even let him get this close?“This is enough,” I muttered, trying to sound firm even though my voice cracked. His hand froze mid-air, then dropped. For a second, disappointment flickered across his face, but he didn’t press further. Zane straightened, his jaw tightening like he was scolding himself. What am I doing? His eyes said it before he turned away.He moved across the room, grabbed a plain t-shirt and a pair of shorts from his bag, and tossed them on the bed. “Wear these.”I stared at the clothes, my heart thudding. His clothes.Without another word, he left the room, shutting the door harder than he pro
