Chapter 106

On Monday morning, I received a call. I was asked to call in at Carter & Sons by their HR. I decided I would go there on my way as I headed back home. I had already said my goodbye to Logan as he headed tonwork early with a break in his case. He left me the key to hand back as I checked out and told me to take my time.

I packed my bag and headed out. As I arrived, I was met in reception by Julie. I followed her into a small room. I took a seat opposite her.

“Thank you for coming in on such short notice.” Julie said, taking a seat.

“Thank you for inviting me.”

“Leah, I’ll be honest with you. When I first read your CV, I was not sure that being hired here would be a good suit for you. Then in your interview, you certainly raised the bar and shocked me. Regardless of your connections here I want to say it has been a long time since I have been impressed by an applicant, the way I was impressed by you.”

“Thank you, Julie, that truly means a lot to me.”

“I would like to formally offer you a position here.”

“Oh,” I felt the colour drain from my face, I had not seen it coming. “Yes, thank you!”

“Leah, I want you to know, me offering you this position here has absolutely nothing to do with Logan or Jack. It is entirely based on your skill set and I think we can harness your skills and progress you well.”

“This means the world to me. I cannot thank you enough.”

“I will be in touch regarding start dates once you have moved and are settled in.”

I shook her hand and followed her out into reception. Logan was there booking in one of his clients for a future appointment when I came out.

“Hey,” he kissed my cheek. “I thought you were on your way home.”

“I was but Julie called and asked me to stop by before I headed back.”

His eyes went wide, “Julie wanted to see you?”

“Mhmm,” I smiled.

I could see the excitement in his eyes, but it was fun to keep him guessing a few moments longer.

“Please don’t keep me in suspense. What did she say?”

“Well, she said a lot of things to start with.” I teased.

“You really do like torturing me, don’t you,” he smirked.

I paused before continuing and putting him out of his misery. “I got the job.”

“Of course, you did, you are amazing.”

He grabbed me for a quick hug. We heard someone clear their throat behind us which pulled us abruptly apart. We turned to see Jack standing there.

“Congratulations, Leah. I have just seen Julie, she told me the good news.”

“Thank you.”

“Don’t you have a call in 5 minutes Logan?”

He looked at his watch quickly and fumbled, “Shoot yes, message me when you get home?” He kissed me goodbye quickly.

“You will do well here. Congratulations again.” Jack smiled and headed back into the offices.
