Chapter 92

As he calmed, he let go of me slowly. I pulled back and sat next to him on the sofa. He sat forward, putting his face into his hands. He took a few deep breaths while I placed my hand on his back.

“What happened?” I asked inquisitively.

“Nothing,” he shook his head, “It was just a nightmare.”

“Talk to me, Logan.”

“It’s nothing, I'm fine.”

“Have you had other nightmares?”

“Yes.”

“How long have you been having nightmares?”

“Since my birthday.”

I felt a twinge of guilt. “Is it because I left?”

He stiffened and turned to face me. Cupping my face and holding my gaze, “None of this is because of you. This is all my own doing. You leaving, made me realise how much I loved you and how much I did not want to live my life without you.”

He relaxed after he told me, vocalizing his emotions was enough to relax him. I let him settle back on the sofa while I grabbed my drink. I heard his footsteps behind me, turning to find him leaning against the countertop. I couldn’t resist him. I walked over pushing my arms around his waist. He reciprocated the movement.

Leaning back, I look up at him, “One more.”

His brow furrowed with confusion. “One more what?”

“Chance, I can’t feel any of this again, Logan. It will break me beyond repair.”

He beamed and pulled me back in. We decided to head to the local park and walk off some of the tension. We spent the afternoon walking and talking. The evening came along so quickly we did not talk about what would happen next. I offered him my spare room, and he gladly accepted knowing he would be closer to me that way.

I headed back to work the following day, and Logan opted to stay. He turned my kitchen and dining room into a workspace for a few days and slowly got back to work.

Arriving at work on Tuesday morning I was greeted with a new face in the team that took me by surprise. I was not aware of us needing another body in the team. We had all managed the workload between us. She was young and well experienced and from what others had been telling me and brought with her a fresh approach to work. Our boss was leaning on her a lot and seemed to be really taking her under his wing. She was covering some of his work almost like a personal assistant would. It was a lot to take in and part of me wondered whether she was brought in because of my emergency leave. I found myself being paranoid for no reason, I knew they would not hire someone unless it was required.

It was nice coming home to Logan each evening even though we were sleeping separately. Neither of us wanted to rush anything. By Sunday evening we both knew it was time for Logan to go. We needed to figure out where we wanted this to go and how it was going to work and for that we needed space again. Letting him go was hard but necessary. He didn’t want to leave any more than I wanted him to, but we made sure we were going to see each other more either physically or via video chat.

Our goodbye was lingering. We stood holding each other next to his car for longer than we thought. Eventually when we pulled apart the loss of contact was potent. Walking back into an empty house was strange but I knew it wouldn’t be long until he returned.
