LOGINI was diagnosed with Neurogenic Wolf Spirit Atrophy. In half a month, I would be dead. The day I received the diagnosis, I decided to give up treatment and donate my body to the Central Research Institute after my death. Through the mind link, I reached out to my brother, whom I hadn’t seen in six years, hoping he would help me sign the papers. He sneered and cut off the link without any hesitation. With the Spirit Severance Donation Contract, a formal waiver of my right to have my wolf spirit returned to my pack's sacred grounds after death, I crossed countless territories alone to the high-ranking city where he resided. He had been promoted to commander of the Silverfang Patrol, basking in glory. He casually signed the document without even looking at me, then said with chilling indifference, “Don’t ever come to me again. Given how ungrateful you are, I can't be bothered to give you a proper burial." I nodded lightly. “I understand.” He did not know that the money for his treatments in the past years had come from me. Now, there were only seven days left until my death.
View MoreHe hit me again and almost hit our daughter. I had enough of this I can't take it anymore.
"This house better be cleaned before I get back!" He yelled and stormed out
"Rosy come on baby girl I need you to grab your bag okay," I said as I threw clothes into my bag
I took the money I saved all these years since Rosy was born and placed it in my wallet before putting it in Rosy's small bag.
I packed her bags and we left. We got on the bus and went to New York. On our way there my beauty fell asleep.
Once we got there I took a taxi to the only place I knew. I knocked on the door even though it was late and dark
"Arora?" My dad asked as he opened the door
"Dad," I said and come into the light
"Did he do this?" Dad growled
"Can we stay here please just till I get a job and a house?" I asked not wanting to talk about my bruises
"Oh baby girl," he said and hugged me before saying, "You're always welcome to stay here for as long as you want,"
My dad isn't my real dad. He's my stepfather who raised me since I was 11 so I call him dad. He has two sons that are older than me and who live here with him. And if you wonder where my mom is she died about two years ago just before Rosy was 3
Dad grabbed my bags and we went in. My brothers came down looking tired as hell
"Hey what are you doing here?" Corey asked
"She'll be staying with us for a while," Dad said
Felix lifted my chin and looked at my bruises and hugged me before saying, "Corey take Rosy to her room I'll clean Arora up,"
"I'm fine," I said and he just gave me a look and dragged me to the kitchen
"So?" Dad asked as Felix was getting an ice pack
"He tried to hit Rosy because she left her doll in the living room. I grabbed his hand and he got angrier and took it out on me," I said
"Was he drunk?" Felix asked
"Yes," I said just when Corey came back into the room
"She's in her bed still passed out," he said and sat down
"I'll make a few calls tomorrow and get her in a school nearby," Dad said and kissed my head before saying good night
"You can come with me tomorrow to the place I work at. My boss is looking for a new secretary I can introduce you to him," Felix said
"Sure thanks," I said and he smiled before saying, "Go get some rest,"
I went upstairs and looked into Rosy's room and saw she was sleeping peacefully. I then when to my room and lay down on the bed
I rolled around for a while but I couldn't find myself falling asleep.
I lay sprawled on the couch, crying my heart out until dawn. I never thought that the donation agreement would really take effect. For six years, I blamed Cora. I resented her for not visiting me, for never coming to pay respects at our mother’s grave. However, I forgot that I had told her never to appear in front of me again.I did not know that on the very night of our mother’s death, Cora had just received news that Charles was about to conduct an illegal deal on a yacht. She and Luke had already set their trap. As long as they secured the key evidence that night, they could send Charles straight to the Supreme Tribunal of the Silverfang Territory. She had reached out through the mind link, telling me she could only return the next day. However, the mind link was suddenly cut off, so she changed her flight and rushed back to the northern border overnight. She caught the earliest flight, only to be delayed by a storm. By the time she landed, it was already noon the next day.I
Casey’s POV:My Cora was gone. She spoke to me last at the old house’s entrance. She had sat in her wheelchair and needed to bring her bowl close to her face to eat. When she tried to tie my tie, she could not even make a proper knot. The last thing she said was, “The weather’s getting warmer, but still, wear more layers. Don’t catch a chill.”There were so many signs. She had been telling me goodbye all this while, and I had overlooked everything.…As I was walking downstairs, I missed a step and fell to the ground. My heartbeat went out of rhythm, as if something was pulling me down. My chest tightened painfully.A few kids ran past me, laughing until they nearly fell, finding it hilarious to see an adult fall.I got up, opened my car door, sat down, and could not shake the feeling that something was wrong today.I thought, maybe I would tell Cora this embarrassing story when I got home tonight. Perhaps she would laugh. She had not laughed in so long. When she was little, C
That phone call was clearly important to Casey. He went straight into the bedroom, almost like he feared I would eavesdrop. That was fine. At least Casey would not see me secretly crying.Just before he closed the door, I vaguely heard Victoria’s voice on the other end. She was crying as she questioned him, her tone full of grievance.Maybe it was the first time Casey had not gone home for an entire night. Then, it struck me that I had brought Casey back here. However, his real home… was no longer here.I lowered my head, finished the bowl of oatmeal, and sat at the table. I was unable to move, so I quietly waited. The food on the table grew colder and colder, little by little. It was not until half an hour later that he returned. He casually ate a few bites, then put down his bowl and pushed me toward the bedroom. There was even more distance between us now. I knew he was in a rush to go home. However, I pretended not to notice, insisting on keeping myself here to have him acc
It was such an abrupt question, but I nodded lightly. “Okay.”It was as if those humiliating confrontations between us had never happened, nor that bone-deep hatred we once carried for each other.Casey stayed in the hospital for more than half a month before he took me with him when he was discharged. On the day we left, my attending doctor quietly pulled me aside. “Your brother’s condition is fine. I can understand why he's being discharged. But you? How can you leave?”Casey was waiting for me down the hall. I lowered my voice. “Staying longer won’t change anything. I don’t want to die in a hospital.”Just like that, I left with Casey. After we filled out the paperwork, he went down to the underground parking lot to get the car, while I waited at the entrance.Just then, I heard a slightly hesitant voice calling, “Cora?”The voice was both familiar and distant. I turned and saw a man in his early 60s, his hair completely white, walking toward me.My memory had been deterior
