LOGIN(RIA’S POV)
I should be dead. I nod shakily to Edmond’s words, my tongue too tied to reply. Edmond Cozen is just like the rumors say. He is terrifying, scary and wicked! And what? I’m supposed to white-wash him? With what chemical? Is there even a chemical for that, because if there isn’t, then I’m screwed. Where is Racquel when you need her? She’s the one who accepted this. Not me. I clutch my wrist shakily, “I understand” I need to avoid his eyes. They are scary. My feet take another step back, only to hit the wall. At this point, I can only pray to melt into the wall. I want to disappear from here. Cos’ seriously, I really drew the short stick in choosing my family. I’ve got a father that hits me whenever he feels like, a mother that emotionally torments me, an elder sister that puts peanuts in my food just to see how long I can take it. Now? A husband promising me a cage worse than death if I cross him. Nobody has it worse than me. I promise you. Edmond scoffs, taking three steps back and I can finally breathe. “Call off your get-away driver.” he says. “Hmm?” I raise my eyes to his. Oh dear. It will be a blessing to survive today. “The bastard you were calling with the stolen phone. Call him and tell him to leave this place before I break his legs!” I shake involuntarily, the power in his voice rendering me useless for a long stretch. “I did not call any get away driver.” I say. He gives a short, sharp laugh humorless but directed at my words. “Right? Do I look like a fool to you?” Edmond’s voice drops to a lower octave. I don’t like this. In movies, this is how the good girl usually dies. Aaaaargggghhhh!! I don’t want to die. Going back home is not possible at this point. I feel like the frog added to water that was constantly boiling until the frog died. “Are you mute?” Edmond voice pierces through my thoughts. I shake my head first, before remembering his question. “No, I’m not.” I answer softly. If there’s one thing which I have learned while staying at home, it is that weak women get everything. Weak in everything. At least, that’s what mum says. She says weakness shows that I’m delicate. This is why my degree in Physics is useless for finding a husband. Racquel on the other hand, followed mum’s teachings and has a flock of men at her fingertips. But, it did not matter to me. I had Tom and that was more than enough. I had a degree in what I love and a man who loved me like crazy. Tom was perfect in all areas, he had the looks, the kindness and even very gentle towards me. Even mum accepted him, even though it was because of his wealth. But he was not as rich as Edmond. Must be why agreed with Dad to make me take Racquel’s place even after Racquel disappeared. Hmmph. Money… this money again. “Do I have to bang your head through a table before you answer me?” Edmond asks. My stomach drops. “No, you don’t.” I quickly say. “I already answered you. I said that I’m not mute.” Edmond looks at me with irritation, throws his head back and starts walking away from me. He moves to the edge of the wall where he was when he slammed his foot in Gia’s chest. Speaking of which, where is that girl? I turn my head to look for her. “Oh dear!” Edmond was back in my face suddenly. “Are you fucking with me, right now?” “I told you to call your damn get away driver! If you think of turning me into a fool, I will catch the bastard, cut him into pieces and feed him to you.” A gasp escapes my lips, my palm flies to my chest. Tears prickle at the corners of my eyes threatening to fall and embarrass me further in the presence of this man. I sniff quietly. “I do not have a getaway driver.” “So, you stepped into the sound and lightning office to pee?” My eyes follow Edmond’s eyes. I freeze on the spot. When I chose this door earlier, I didn’t even pay attention to which door I entered. I just wanted to get away from this man and call Tom! What would be my believable excuse now? I swallow my dry saliva. Where is my smart brain now that I need it?! I wring my hands on the ball portion of my skirt. “I do not have a get away driver. I was just overwhelmed about the party and Gia coming onto you so strong like that. I wanted to collect my thoughts in one place.” Hey! See me. That lie flew out of my lips with zero cracks. I didn’t know I could lie like this. I guess you never speak against it until you try it. My eyes watch Edmond warily. Will he believe me? I squeeze my face and pull my best ‘believe me’ pitiful expression. I’m no Racquel but at least, I can imitate her expressions. Edmond stalks towards me, every stride slow but steady. Every step he takes removes a strand of hair from my head. I feel like my head will go white from mental stress by the time he reaches me. “What are you guys doing? It’s time for the bride and groom’s first dance!”(EDMOND'S POV)“The fuck!”“Are you out of your mind?”Adrian and Igor shouted the moment the words left Kael’s mouth.Kael looked at me, confused.“You said I should be nice to her.”“So she lets down her fucking guard, you big dumbass. What part of it said to kill? When did we turn into a fucking gang in your goddamned mind?” Adrian yells instead.“Be nice to her so we can use her to get what we need, not ---------” I trail off, a sigh leaving my lips.“You big oaf! Is everything ---------”“Crowne …” I stop Adrian short.“Don’t touch her.” Adrian huffs.“Until we get what we need.” I say to Kael.“Do not fucking touch her.” Adrian repeats fuming.A glass of whiskey materializes in front of Adrian, the hand held by Igor. Adrian grabs it and gulps a large swig hissing at he swallows.“We aren’t killing anyone. We are not brutes and you can’t have that mindset Kael, if you want to work with us.” I frown.Kael nods hurriedly, “I’m sorry boss.”I turn to Adrian, “There was no reason to
“Hi, I’m Mrs. Brown, but you can call me Jessie.”The woman says as she puts on gloves on her fingers, smiling at me.I shift uncomfortably, my butt against the chair in the same position I’d just said I wasn’t going to be in because I could handle myself. My legs had moved on their own, the moment my heart decided that this woman was worth believing.“What does Edmond call you?” I ask, then hiss slowly at the sting of antiseptic that hits my cheek.“Sorry. The wound is starting to scab so I had to pick it apart.”“As for Mr. Cozen, he calls me Mrs. Brown.”I frown, “If it’s started to scab, then you need to leave it. This means the healing process has begun. You are picking away at the hardwork of my platelets.” She only smiles at me.Again.I’m convinced this woman likes to smile. But honestly, there’s nothing funny, so I’m writing it off as a fake smile.“If I leave it to scab, it will leave a scar on your face.” she says.Oh………Edmond would probably kill me and marry another if I
If I had a hole I could crawl into right now, I will not even hesitate one bit. I draw the belt of the robe tighter as if it could melt into my body.“Don’t.” she says softly. Her hand reach out to my back and I stare at her for a while, wondering if this is what it feels like to have someone that cares.Absoutely not.I shouldn’t fall for this. Not only is she Edmond’s staff but she was also sent by Edmond. She is going to go tell Edmond everything she saw. I bet you.I throw her hand away and step back. She glances at me with confused eyes.“You were mistaken.” I say.“There’s no bruise on my back. I would know since it’s my body.”“As for the help you want to render, I will have to stop you there.” I point to my dresser covered in gauze, methylated spirit, cotton wool, antiseptic wipes and bandages scattered all over it.Her eyes glances over it.“You seem well prepared.” She says to me.I shrug, “You never know when you might need such things. Along with food, medications should
“What ------?” “What do you mean?” I stutter.Does Edmond Cozen know?Know that I’m not the wife he asked to marry?Know that he was deceived? Is that why he has a Knife next to him?!!!!Am I going to die today?!In a Kitchen? What an irony.Edmond smirks, leaning back.“I’m going to ask you that question every time I see you until I figure out who you are.”I exhale deeply.Good. He hasn’t figured it out yet.I’ve got time to warn mum and dad that Edmond is getting suspicious, as well as disappearing myself. Good thing he gave me the code today.I need to run away as soon as I can.It would be stupid to wait for Edmond Cozen to find out that he was deceived while staying in his house and eating his food.Edmond taps the table before standing up.He slides the knife to me.“Ah!” I scream. He squeezes his face, pressing a hand to his ear, “What the fuck was that for, Whittaker?” “No, ... nothing.” I hide my shaky hands in between my thighs.Who the heck slides a knife sharply at som

“How is she so poor at everything?” Edmond’s first words concerning me this week. At least in my presence, but not to me. His briefcase was in Kael’s hand and a man who I don’t know was hovering next to him, his face carrying a hint of a smile, both Edmond and Kael lacked. Even though his eyes wouldn’t reach me, his words travelled far to where I was. I guess Kael must have briefed him. I walk towards Edmond, my feet stopping short in front of him. He glances at me from the corner of his eye. If he notices the large bruise that I’m sporting on face, he doesn’t say anything. “What do you want?” He pauses at the bottom of the stairs. “Err…” Suddenly, all my bravado flies out of the window. Where the heck is courage when I need it?! After acting like I can actually say something to Edmond about Priscilla, here I am stuttering like I’ve got hot coals on my tongue. It is embarrassing, really. “The — the code. I wanted to tell you thank you for it.” I say, avoiding the three
