I don’t know why she’s clutching so much to that phone on her hand, but I guess it’s a response to all these female dresses not having pockets. How they live surprises me, how much more their dresses? I know how to choose my battles. Now, this woman’s dress is none of my business but her life? I’ll determine the path it will take. My phone vibrates in my hand. It’s Adrian. I open his text message. ‘You’re going to have a run away bride before you can cut your wedding cake.’ I wipe the non-existent sweat off my eyebrow. Don’t I know that? This woman is as stressful as those who birthed her. But, what was I expecting though? That the apple fell far from the tree? My phone vibrates again. It’s Kael this time. ‘I told Mr. Adrian that your bride swiped a man’s phone but he said it would be interesting to watch. I had to tell you directly Mr. Cozen. I am sorry for not intercepting it halfway.” My lips stretch up into a smirk. Sticky finger huh? I look at the closed door where she disappeared into. Maybe she is already calling her getaway driver. Too bad for her though. There’s no way in hell, I’ll let her get away from me. I fix my eyes on the door. What was running through her little mind? She will be my opening to get what I want and until I have what I want, I won’t be letting her go. But there’s a problem at the moment. The Whittakers gave me their problem to hold. What am I supposed to do with this sticky finger bride of mine? “How often do you steal?” Her eyes bulge wide open, her mouth following suit. “It’s not anything like that.” “Hmmph.” “I swear.” She says raising two fingers to the sky. “I’m certain the theives in prison would lie as well if given the opportunity to. I don’t like smear on my name.” She shrinks back, her eyes darting to the door by the end of the hallway. I want to roll my eyes. I really do. Does she think she could escape me? In that hideously large dress that looks like a torture cage on its own? “What? Think I won’t put you in jail?” She blinks fast, “I -- I’m your wife. That will not bode well for you.” I turn my wrist over, playing with the clasps of my wristwatch. “I could easily ask for an annulment on the basis of criminal activities. Care to try me?” “I swear, this was just the first time!” Fat tear droplets roll down her face. First, they come one after the other, then they roll out in a rush resembling a waterfall. I squeeze my eyes shut. This was annoying. This Whittaker girl is getting on my nerves. “Shut up. No more stealing.” “This was the first time.” she repeats. I open my eyes, my lips curl up in scorn, “Should I ask you why?” Her feet shift backwards only to hit the wall behind her. Her eyes widened as my words left my mouth. Color drained from her face making her look as pale as paper. Her eyes fail to hold my gaze and drop to the floor, fingers curling into fists by her side, trembling with zero effort to steady them. She looks like a cornered rabbit. I guess that is what happens when you try to escape on your wedding day. The bride trying to call a getaway driver. The maid-of-honor trying to seduce the groom. Wait. Was the maid of honor, her decoy? Take my attention by any means so she can escape. My eyes widen in appreciation of her thinking. Not very smart for someone like me, but doable for a random person outside. “The view of other people concerning me is very important to me. I married you so as to whitewash it not to smear it further.” I pause. “Raise your head and look at me.” She shakes her head, keeping it downward. For fucks sake! I feel cursed to meet a spoilt brat like her but I need her for the plan, so I must swallow my ire and anger to avoid ruining it. I take a deep breath in feeling the warm air enter my nostrils, clearing my head. “I won’t repeat myself a third time. Look at me.” Watery green eyes stare right back into mine causing my annoyance to double. Who the fuck did she think she is that my plan of three years is dependent on her? I say nothing at first. “If I hear anything that looks like you smearing my name one bit, forget jail, I know better cages to put you in that will definitely ruin your life.” I lean forward, making sure I occupy her entire vision. “Is that clear?(EDMOND’S POV)I don’t know why she’s clutching so much to that phone on her hand, but I guess it’s a response to all these female dresses not having pockets. How they live surprises me, how much more their dresses?I know how to choose my battles. Now, this woman’s dress is none of my business but her life?I’ll determine the path it will take.My phone vibrates in my hand. It’s Adrian.I open his text message.‘You’re going to have a run away bride before you can cut your wedding cake.’I wipe the non-existent sweat off my eyebrow.Don’t I know that? This woman is as stressful as those who birthed her. (RIA’S POV)My soul stumbles out of my chest, leaving my body to face this man standing in front of me.What am I supposed to do?To say?!Should I come clean and tell him that he was just conned into getting married to me and we get an annulment, so I can reach Tom?This way though, I risk the possibility of not only disappointing my parents, but becoming a social pariah in the world. Not that I have any friends even though, but the thought of being separated from everyone chills me to the bones. It would be worth it though, because Tom and I will elope and maybe move to Cyprus and then I can build a new life with Tom in Cyprus. But my dad will kill me. Literally. On the other hand, should I play dumb? This way, I keep my parents happy, guests oblivious but walk into the tigers den.Edmond stalks towards me, his large feet covering the safe distance between us with short strides. My feet carries me backwards until my back hits the door.“Do I need to repeat myself, pinna migocolata
Gia slammed into the wall, her head making a crisp cracking sound as she hits the wall. My mouth went wide open as I stared at her.Bright red blood flowed down her now crooked nose and fat drops of tears flow down from her eyes.It wasn’t a pretty sight. But I was in no position to be worrying about the hired help.Especially the one who was being disrespectful to me up to a second ago.Edmond’s eyes were still fixed on me.It didn’t matter in that moment, that Gia was wailing buckets, struggling to get his attention and failing miserably. His (color of eyes) eyes were fixed on me like a leopard stalking his prey.Would I be the next victim?“Do you plan to relieve yourself in the hallway?” Edmond’s voice shoots outEDMOND’S POVShe shook her head, but her hand pointed to the wall next to me.Hmmph. Did the Whittaker’s teach their daughter to keep me on a leash? Not even four hours married and she was trying to fucking boss me around?!“---- What of Gia?” Her voice comes out like s
My hand hovers over the stolen phone in my hand. My Dad had confiscated my phone as one of his reasons to stop me from running away from the wedding. His thought process? I could call a friend and ask them to be my getaway driver.Even though, I don’t have any friends.“Hey! Trying to run away?” Gia’s voice echoes down the long hallway.I quickly shove the stolen phone in my dress.“Right.” I roll my eyes at her.“Do you ever think?” I ask“No, do you ever think?” Gia asks me placing emphasis on the word, ‘you’My eyebrows shrink back, making the hideous silver eyeshadow pop out against my green eyes, “Excuse me?”“Do you have any idea what your reckless move of running out made your father look like? Like a parent who couldn’t control their kids?”I scoffed inwardly. I honestly wanted to laugh at her absurd words but my hand suddenly slipped and the phone within my large dress falls to the floor with a dull crash.Crash!Gia looked at me, her expression changing from angry to suspi
His eyes are like sharp icicles on fire. “You need something to eat?” he asks.“Err .. no, well, I -- , no, thank you.” I stutter staring down at the ugly patterning on the wedding dress. My eyes trace the deep scar that runs from Edmond’s forehead over the bridge of his nose to his left cheek. One wrong look could cost me my head and I am not about to loose it so, my eyes flicker to where my parent’s stand.Better the devil you know, than the devil you don’t?My parents look at us from their corner where they are conversing with their friends and my dad raises his glass filled with champagne, nodding at Edmond.Edmond ignores him and sits.He places a slice of red velvet cake in front of me, “Eat.” he says.I look at the red velvet cake with peanuts scattered all over it like some type of frosting.“I read your portfolio. It mentioned you loved red velvet cakes and peanuts? This was requested specifically for the bride.” Edmond says, his voice low but every intonation loud and clear
(RIA'S POV) Mum pinched me at my back, her hand hidden by hideous layers of the heavy wedding gown, “Smile!” Her voice came out sharply as she walked me down the aisle to my impending doom. She and Dad, they are my jailers. Jailers transporting me to life imprisonment. The wedding gown surprisingly fit me snugly in my upper body while the lower part ballons out in a fairytale like rapunzel dress. I hated Rapunzel as a kid. As an adult, now? I hate all Disney princesses. Except Elsa though. Her parents are dead, so that must be freeing. Pink petals thrown on the floor by the flower girls start to look like rotten corpses looking like a glimpse into my future. My ears tune out whatever the little orchestra is playing off to the side, and my eyes water at the vision of hell standing few steps away from me. He is very tall, standing at six foot, five inches, warm sandy blonde hair that looks like Rachel Green from friends reaching up to the nape of his neck in loose waves and b
