Bang…!

Brute force hurled me out of the car. From behind me, piercing laughter and cheers erupted.

I staggered to my feet as the cold, damp air of the forest crept down my spine. Goosebumps burst all over my skin.

In the darkness, crimson eyes began to glow.

Beasts! Countless of them!

"No…!"

My teeth rattled with terror. I spun around and lunged for the car door, wanting to climb back. Yet, my efforts were met with a loud slam.

Those inside, safely hidden in their steel fortress, treated me as nothing more than a joke for their entertainment. No one cared whether I could make it out of this accursed forest alive or otherwise.

Growl…

Around me, low growls rumbled.

The beasts stepped out from behind the bushes, one after another. Their fangs glinted with a cold, cruel light, as if they were already at my throat.

I was a fighter. I had always been disciplined in my training.

Yet, I knew that I had no chance against so many Beasts.

"Open the door! Let me in! Please!"

The Beasts closed in, every step making my skin crawl as I slammed my fists on the door in panic.

Yet, all I got in response was loud laughter from inside the car. They even pulled out cash and started placing bets on how long I would last against the Beasts' assault.

Roar…!

A giant Beast, so much taller than me, suddenly lunged.

"No!"

I screamed; the impact slammed me away, and in an instant, razor-sharp fangs tore into my neck.

The thick scent of blood permeated the air as pain surged through my body. Cold sweat drenched my back, and my consciousness started to fade.

Right before everything went black, I could just make out two men standing coldly behind the car window.

Once, one of them had given me a new life. Now he stood in silence, utterly indifferent. The other had sworn to always be by my side. Now, he held another woman in his arms, as if my dying self wasn't worth even a glance.

Upon seeing this, agony coursed through me, pain a hundred times worse than the Beast's fangs.

At that moment, I finally understood something.

No one cared about me.

Not even a single soul.

"Violet…!"

Just before I blacked out, someone seemed to be calling my name in a panic. Sapped of strength, I couldn't reply. In the end, I simply let the darkness swallow everything.

I didn't wake up again until the sharp smell of disinfectant stung my nose. It was so strong that I woke up coughing. Nearby, I could hear low voices murmuring.

A healer leaned over to check on me. "She's awake! Go inform the two Alphas."

I struggled to sit up, glancing around the cold, sterile hospital room. My gaze landed on my bandaged, battered body. Then, the memories came flooding back.

I had gone to Claire Beaumont's welcome-back party as Alpha Julian Archer's date.

Claire, lunatic she was, desired something thrilling. She pushed Julian and Alpha Lucian Gray into making a bet. The loser would have to throw his date into the Death Forest, where Beasts prowled.

Not wanting to gamble my life on such a stupid game, I decisively refused.

But Claire kept insisting.

Julian and Lucian… They actually agreed!

They played a "Hunting Game" with bone tiles carved by claws. The rules were much like poker.

Julian had a winning hand, but then he suddenly paused and glanced at Claire, whose face had gone pale due to her uneasiness. If Lucian lost, she knew she would be thrown into the forest.

Julian hesitated…and then deliberately sabotaged his hand. He threw away his chance of winning.

"Julian?!" I couldn't believe my eyes.

"I lost." Julian tossed his cards, his voice icy cold.

Lucian sneered as he stared at me. "If you're going to bet, you have to be willing to lose. Rules are rules."

My heart sank as a cold dread gripped my heart.

"No… Tell them, Julian! You could have won!" I pleaded desperately as I looked at him.

But Julian turned away, his voice cold. "You're seeing things. I couldn't have won."

"No…!"

Alas, my pleas fell on deaf ears. They dragged me to the edge of the forest. After all, a bet was a bet.

Claire nestled into Lucian's arms, flashing me an obviously fake smile.

"Violet, good luck!"

I didn't want to force myself to remember what happened next. The wound on my neck still ached, a reminder of everything that had happened after I was thrown out of the car.

Those claws and fangs…

And that bone-deep betrayal.

I would never forget the faces of the two men, once central in my life, watching in cold silence as I had one foot in the grave.

Just then, footsteps echoed outside the hospital room.

Julian and Lucian walked in, with Claire peeking in behind them, her expression one of fake concern.

Every Rogue was holding a gleaming silver blade in their hands. Rays of light streaming from the crowns of the trees glinted off the metal, sending chills down my spine. They didn't give me a chance to run, closing in from front and back, blocking every escape."Claire! What are you doing?" I snarled."Making you disappear, forever!" Claire's eyes burned with hatred as she edged closer with her blade. "Once you're gone, they'll come back to me!""Are you insane? If you kill me on human territory, the hunters will never spare you!" My voice trembled as I backed away."You think I care?" Claire sneered, getting even closer."Claire!" Suddenly, a furious howl echoed in the air.Julian and Lucian burst into the scene. They had followed me, after all!"You two?" Claire was stunned, then her face twisted with reckless fury as she ordered two Rogues to block them. "Lucian! You threw Violet into the Death Forest just to please me! Aren't you happy that I'd kidnap her for you now?"S

When Julian and Lucian saw Claire, a flicker of panic flashed in their eyes. But instead of letting go, they only tightened their grip on me.That was the last straw for Claire—she exploded. She tried her usual trick, clutching her chest and coughing dramatically. "Ack! Wheeze! Julian… Lucian… Worrying about Violet is making me… It's making me feel sick again… Please, take me to rest…"This time, it didn't work. Julian didn't even look at her and just barked at his subordinate, "Help Miss Beaumont get some rest."Claire froze in disbelief. Panic washed over her face. Her usual routine had failed! She tore herself away from Julian's subordinates. With a pale face, her eyes darted frantically between the three of us as tears welled in her eyes. "Lucian! Why? Can't you see it? She hates you! She doesn't even like you! Why are you still chasing after her like an idiot?" Her voice rose to a shrill scream. "Don't you both love me? Why is it that the moment she leaves, you're both

I forced down the surge of emotion, glaring coldly at Lucian as I yanked my hand free. "Let go of me!"But his grip was like iron, and he wouldn't budge. He wouldn't let go until Damian stepped forward and shoved him aside. "Lucian Gray," Damian growled, "show some respect to my employee!""She's your employee?" Lucian looked genuinely shocked."Mr. Damian, she's an old friend of ours." Julian stepped in, trying to ease the tension.Damian glanced at me inquisitively. I closed my eyes and nodded.Fine. Since they were already here, it was time to end things for good. After this, I didn't want them to get in the way of my life ever again.Only then did Damian step back, saying, "I'll be right outside. Call me if you need anything."He turned and left, giving us some room. As he passed Claire, he didn't even slow down. He said with an icy voice, "Miss Beaumont, I only have half an hour. If you want to talk about business, come with me now."Claire shot a look of reluctance a

The moment Claire heard they were going after me, a hint of ruthlessness flashed in her eyes. However, it was instantly and flawlessly masked by fake concern. Her eyes were red as she sobbed, "Violet… Is she still angry at me? Where can she possibly go after leaving Julian's pack? Things could get dangerous if another pack mistook her for an intruder! It's all my fault… Please, bring me along to help you look for her!"She put on an anxious act, insisting on coming along.Julian and Lucian exchanged glances. As they saw that familiar pitiful look, their old habit of softening toward Claire took over. After all, they had grown up with her.Claire had moved away with her father to another pack when she was ten, but protecting and caring for her was something they had been conditioned to do since childhood. Julian and Lucian ordered their men to search for me, then led Claire inside the manor to comfort her.In the end, Julian and Lucian didn't go searching. Instead, they only sent

  • Cast Out to Freedom   Chapter 4

By the time I reached my destination, night had already fallen. After changing buses several times, I finally arrived at a small town in the human world.I had always been a Rogue. If Julian hadn't taken me in back then, I would probably still be drifting from place to place. So, I was simply back to square one now.The only difference was… I was no longer that helpless little girl.Night deepened. I found a small inn and walked up to the front desk to check in, only to freeze on the spot."Miss?" The receptionist looked at me, puzzled."I'm sorry… I don't have enough money." I had left in such a rush, I didn't have the time to exchange enough human currency. Even though this was the cheapest inn around, I was still short on cash.Outside, it was pitch black.I heard that hunters in the human world loved to roam at night, searching for lone werewolves. I knew I hadn't broken any laws and hunters wouldn't just nab me for no reason, but if I caused a scene and word got out, Ju

  • Cast Out to Freedom   Chapter 3

The coldness in Lucian's eyes and his cruel sneer felt like a hard slap across my face. It was so painful, I could barely breathe. The first time I met Lucian was at Julian's Alpha Succession Ceremony. After the ceremony, Julian introduced me to everyone. Just then, someone called out, "Julian, is she your mate? Your future Luna?"Julian didn't answer; he neither confirmed nor denied it. I knew what being a mate meant, and my cheeks flushed slightly."If she's not your mate, does that mean I have a chance?" A tall, handsome Alpha came over with a smile—Lucian. His pack and Julian's were allies, and the two had grown up together. If Julian was the composed prince, Lucian was the charming playboy who made women swoon.Lucian took my hand and kissed the back of my hand lightly. "Remember me, Violet. I'm the Alpha, Lucian."For a moment, I became the center of attention, caught between the two dazzling Alphas in the room. The music started, and Lucian gave me a gentlemanly b
