“Well isn’t this cozy”

Em burst out of her sleep. She sat up so fast, she fell right off the couch into the floor. She looked up to see non other than Quinn, her bully turned protector.. her enemy turned lover… her boyfriend turned …stepbrother?

He was standing in front of her with his arms crossed and looking like he was about to rip into someone. Em was confused as to what was happening. Then she turned and saw Asher on the sofa. They must’ve fallen asleep last night watching ‘Friends’.

Asher, who was now stretching and coming to.. had apparently taken his shirt off during the night and only had on shorts.

‘Hmm’ she thought. ‘This probably looked worse than it was.’ But then again why did Quinn even care? He told her they couldn’t be together. So if that’s the case he’s not gonna get mad and jealous every time she’s around another guy.

Especially if that guy happens to be Asher of all people.

She turned and looked back at Quinn, who now had a look of hurt etched on his face.

“Did we have a meeting someone forgot to tell me about?” Asher mumbled still half asleep.

Em looked up at Quinn. “This is not what it looks like… so you can stop making the face.” She was irritable when she first woke up. Actually. Irritable wasn’t even the word. She didn’t even want to speak to anyone before she had her coffee. And how dare he act mad anyway??

“Aww don’t deny it sweet cheeks”. Asher grumbled.

Em once again worried about her eyes getting stuck as she rolled them.

She looked back at Quinn then, wondering why he was in her basement anyway.

“What are you doing here?” She asked. A small sprinkle of hope went through her. Maybe he had thought about his stupid decision and changed his mind.

“We brought the building over on the semi.”

Em deflated. This was really happening. Quinn and his dad had just recently built an out building for him to start teaching MMA classes. Apparently Em’s mom and Quinn’s dad weren’t wasting any time and going ahead with the plan to move in together. Especially if they’d brought a whole damn building of theirs to her house.

She felt sick. This was all too much for her and she suddenly wished she was back on the couch asleep with Asher.

About that time Aspen came running down the stairs.

“Where the hell is everybody? Oh.” She stopped when she saw the scene in front of her.

“Erm. What’s going on round here?” She asked.

“Round? Here?” Quinn replied.

Clearly he wasn’t privy to the way they liked talking in song lyrics.

“Well. This has been lovely.” Em said.

She stood up to go upstairs with Aspen when Quinn grabbed her arm. Her breath caught. The same way it always did when he touched her. She hated it now. The way his skin felt against hers…. the burning sensation, the goosebumps, the way her heart flip flopped… now those feelings made her sad.

She stopped and looked at him, right in his eyes just like she always did. They stared at each other a moment.. and then… he let her go.

She and Aspen went up to her room and shut the door. How the hell was she meant to do this?? She couldn’t live with Quinn. There’s no way…. he would be everywhere. And with her feelings the way they were, she was a little worried about sinking back down in her depression.

Em didn’t want to start taking her pills again but…. It was a possibility that she would have to. She had been seeing a new therapist the last few weeks, a woman from the hospital where her mother worked. She was fine but, Em really missed Evan her old therapist from the town where she used to live.

She had been very seriously considering calling him again for several days now. But she had also been considering going out in the yard and screaming as loud as she possibly could so there’s that.

“Ughhhh” Em said when they got to her room.

“This shit is wild.” Her best friend, Aspen said.

“Wild. Ridiculous. Annoying. Stupid as a fucking mouse in shoes.” Em agreed.

Aspen looked at her funny.

“You’ve had some interesting made up cuss words as of late you know that?”

Em snorted.

“So what did I walk in on?” Aspen asked her. Em gave her the run down of last night and she guessed that she and Asher had fallen asleep…. and Quinn walked in on it this morning.

“Okay just because he’s my brother— ew.” Aspen said. “But… what gives Quinn the right to say a word about anything you do now?? He made his choice.. AND.. it was a stupid one. Who even cares if your parents get married it’s not like y’all are related!! This is so un-Quinn like. He never gives two fucks about anything.” Aspen breathed out her grievances.

Em couldn’t agree more. Something wasn’t adding up and she needed to get to the bottom of it. Quinn was acting really shady about all this. They needed to sit down and have a long talk .. again.

“You are spot on.” Em told Aspen. “Spot the fuck on a Dalmatian dog on.”

Within the month of January she went back to school. And by February she was back dancing and teaching with Maria at Tush. They’d been doing great together too. Once she left the hospital and he had admitted his feelings .. they’d been together ever since. and to his surprise .. they didn't eve

Emerson She snuggled back up to Asher and she ended up falling asleep. Because she always felt safe in Asher’s arms. When Quinn came back.. she expected anger from him. But surprising her.. that’s not what she got at all. Asher had fallen asleep too. And Quinn stood there .. looking at them together .. and he smiled. And she smiled back. Finally the following day she got to go home. She moved slowly .. and didn’t do much. But she was home. They’d cleaned up the mess that had been made during her abduction. And Emerson had been worried she would feel scared to be back here. But she wasn’t. She was glad. After what had happened .. she decided not to sweat the small stuff. Because things could always be much worse. Quinn finally told her about the message he’d gotten from his brother. Apparently their dad had cheated on their mom with some woman he worked with. That was what made their mom start leaving and staying gone for days at a time.. and it was why she le

Emerson It had been five days since she had been home from the hospital. It had been eight days since she woke up in said hospital… and two weeks since the worst night of her life. After she woke up and realized her dream wasn’t really a dream at all .. but it was everything that was happening while she was in a coma. It took her a while to really understand and grasp everything that had happened. At first she only recalled bits and pieces. But pretty soon the entire horrible ordeal came back to her. The doctors wanted to keep her for a while in the hospital .. so she had stayed three days once she woke up. The first day there were a lot of tests run .. making sure everything was working properly. Plus she had a ton of visitors that first day. Everyone cried … she cried too. But she was also happy .. happy that it was all over. By the end of that day she’d been poked and prodded and visited so much that she was worn out… and slept straight through the night. All h

Quinn Em had been in the regular room for two days. They’d been at the hospital for five at that point. And they were all just about to crack. He supposed in the grand scheme of things.. two days wasn’t that long. But fuck … it felt like forever. They’d all gotten their hopes up too high once the doctors had released Em from ICU. They all for some reason figured she would wake up in a few hours. And when that entire day went by with no signs from her .. They all got taken down a notch. And when they woke up in their adjoining hospital room… that had turned into a one room apartment for eleven people … and there had been no change … They started to get discouraged. And when that day went by and Em still hadn’t woken up .. they started to lose hope. “These things take time.” The doctor said when he came by that night. “She could wake up right now.. she could wake up in a week .. a month.. we just don’t know.” “A month??” Carol cried. The doctor sighed. “Carol. You know

EmDreams are funny. They’re strange and weird. Sometimes happy.. sometimes joyful and silly. Often they made no sense at all. At least from what she could remember. Because she didn’t have dreams anymore. Not since a couple of years ago anyway.. after everything with River and her dad. Since then, she only had nightmares. Of course she would have those peaceful moments .. when she was cuddled up to Asher or sleeping in a room full of people .. where she went the hours nightmare free. It’s funny how that works. Just knowing she was surrounded by people that love her gave her the comfort she needed to sleep peacefully. But she didn’t make the rules and that’s just how it was. Or maybe her subconscious had more power than she realized. Sure she may have had dreams, but none that she remembered. None that she was acutely aware of while she was sleeping. Not like she did in her horrifying nightmares. So for as far as she knew .. she didn’t have dreams. Until now … And this dream ..

  • Catching the Moon (Chasing the Moon Book 2)   Chapter 157

QuinnHe had gotten to stay with Em for thirty minutes. The rules for the ICU were very strict. After twelve hours they could have visitors .. two at a time… for half an hour. Then the visitors left and the nurses and doctors would come in and check them.. change out medication and check their vitals or whatever else was needed .. The doctors and nurses had that thirty minutes .. then , two more people could come in. Half an hour of visitation and half an hour of rest .. even though the patients were being poked and prodded .. and not resting at all during that time. After forty eight hours .. they’d start bringing her off the medication.. lowering doses at first .. one at a time. Then they’d do the same with the machines. If that all went okay… they would move her to a regular room. It was a lot and very time consuming. But he was glad they were taking things slowly. Whatever got her better .. he was there for it. After Quinn and Carol came out .. his dad went in to visit. No one
