“So that’s it?” Mickey said. “He’s just giving up? Throwing in the towel? Calling it quits?? Caving in??” “Yes.” Em said. “Quitting, surrendering, abandoning, relinquishing, folding.. all of the above.” “Huh.” Mickey responded. “What? What’s that mean?” Em asked her. “Well. It’s just… Quinn is so.. the opposite of that.” Em thought about this a minute. And Mickey was right. Quinn was the exact opposite of all those things. Actually not giving up or giving in was his entire personality. So why did he give up so easily? Later that night Em laid in bed and couldn’t stop thinking about what Mickey had said. She had been spot on and Em wondered why she had never thought of it. Why did he roll over so quickly.. unless.. Unless he was looking for an excuse. Maybe he had decided he didn’t want to be with her, and needed a way out. Maybe he didn’t love her after all. Maybe he was still in love with his ex girlfriend that he had been with since he was a kid. The thoughts were taking over her brain. Pounding on her skull and bouncing every which way in her mind. Ugh. Now she was getting a headache. She got them more frequently now, after the concussion she had sustained during the wreck. Em popped out of bed and went downstairs to the kitchen for some pain medicine and water. It was late now, almost midnight, and she swore she heard tapping on the glass. After listening for a moment she went back to her task. Though she kept slighting her eyes around without moving her head. Now she’s just being paranoid. Although, she had a great reason to be. After everything she had been through, it would be weird if she wasn’t paranoid. She swallowed the medicine and sat the glass in the sink, then turned around to go back upstairs. When she walked by the living room with the huge glass windows on the back wall she stopped. Then, she screamed. Em jumped seven miles into the air then quickly slammed her hand over her mouth to quiet her screaming. There was someone standing there, looking into her house! But.. the intruder was waving at her. That’s odd. Em squinted against the darkness and then she huffed. She looked up to the sky silently asking the question… ‘why’. Then she marched over to the glass doors and opened one. “Asher! What in the days of all fuck bunch are you doing??!” “Was that English?” He asked her as he walked inside her living room. “Dude. You scared the bejeezus out of me! Why are you peeking into my house in the middle of the night?” “Oh well that’s easy. You didn’t answer your phone.” Asher told her. If she didn’t love Asher to absolute death, and if he wasn’t one of her best friends in the world along with his twin sister Aspen, she would punch him straight into tomorrow. “Okayyyyy….” She drawled, waiting for the rest of the explanation. But big shocker, he didn’t give her one. Asher went to the kitchen and helped himself to a drink and the box of leftover pizza then headed downstairs to Em’s basement. Em rolled her eyes again… she was actually worried they might get stuck, she rolled them so frequently whenever Asher was around…. Em got herself a drink, and followed him downstairs. He plopped himself on the small sofa they had put in the biggest room down there and turned on the tv they had recently hung on the wall. Em used this space to practice a lot, just to get away from the noise upstairs and also not to bug Sawyer and her mom with her music. So besides the small couch, small coffee table, and tv, the room was pretty empty. They sat and ate pizza and watched a friends rerun for the next half hour without even speaking. Eventually, Em turned to him and watched him, wondering what — if anything — was going through his head. “Asher?” She said. “Mmm” he grunted. “What exactly are you doing?” He looked at her then with a mouthful of pizza and frowned. “Eating pizza”. “Oh ma geez Asher.” She got up to leave and go back upstairs to bed but he grabbed her arm and pulled her back down beside him. “Okay.” He said. “I just wanted to hang out with you.” Asher knew everything that had been going on, he knew how upset she had been, and he also knew the train wreck that was her life. He knew everything that had happened to her before she even moved here, and he knew she could use a friend. Even someone to just sit and eat pizza with in the middle of the night. Someone who would watch her favorite show reruns even though he didn’t like them… and to just BE. She smiled and leaned over to give him a peck on the cheek. She then grabbed a blanket and covered them both up. She scooted closer to him and laid her head on his shoulder. Seconds later, she was asleep.Quinn It was the summer after everything happened. Quinn and his friends had finished out the year together and graduated. And they’d had the summer of their lives. He’d continued teaching MMA and had racked up a large roster of students. He’d gotten so many that he even had to turn some of them down. He had made plans to move to Portland and work with the coach there .. but he wanted to get a business degree .. and officially open his own gym and business and continue teaching. So he had to figure out how to do both of those things. Somehow.. someway. All while making time for Em. Their relationship was and would always be his number one priority. Em had gotten better. Within the month of January she went back to school. And by February she was back dancing and teaching with Maria at Tush. They’d been doing great together too. Once she left the hospital and he had admitted his feelings .. they’d been together ever since. and to his surprise .. they didn't eve
Emerson She snuggled back up to Asher and she ended up falling asleep. Because she always felt safe in Asher’s arms. When Quinn came back.. she expected anger from him. But surprising her.. that’s not what she got at all. Asher had fallen asleep too. And Quinn stood there .. looking at them together .. and he smiled. And she smiled back. Finally the following day she got to go home. She moved slowly .. and didn’t do much. But she was home. They’d cleaned up the mess that had been made during her abduction. And Emerson had been worried she would feel scared to be back here. But she wasn’t. She was glad. After what had happened .. she decided not to sweat the small stuff. Because things could always be much worse. Quinn finally told her about the message he’d gotten from his brother. Apparently their dad had cheated on their mom with some woman he worked with. That was what made their mom start leaving and staying gone for days at a time.. and it was why she le
Emerson It had been five days since she had been home from the hospital. It had been eight days since she woke up in said hospital… and two weeks since the worst night of her life. After she woke up and realized her dream wasn’t really a dream at all .. but it was everything that was happening while she was in a coma. It took her a while to really understand and grasp everything that had happened. At first she only recalled bits and pieces. But pretty soon the entire horrible ordeal came back to her. The doctors wanted to keep her for a while in the hospital .. so she had stayed three days once she woke up. The first day there were a lot of tests run .. making sure everything was working properly. Plus she had a ton of visitors that first day. Everyone cried … she cried too. But she was also happy .. happy that it was all over. By the end of that day she’d been poked and prodded and visited so much that she was worn out… and slept straight through the night. All h
Quinn Em had been in the regular room for two days. They’d been at the hospital for five at that point. And they were all just about to crack. He supposed in the grand scheme of things.. two days wasn’t that long. But fuck … it felt like forever. They’d all gotten their hopes up too high once the doctors had released Em from ICU. They all for some reason figured she would wake up in a few hours. And when that entire day went by with no signs from her .. They all got taken down a notch. And when they woke up in their adjoining hospital room… that had turned into a one room apartment for eleven people … and there had been no change … They started to get discouraged. And when that day went by and Em still hadn’t woken up .. they started to lose hope. “These things take time.” The doctor said when he came by that night. “She could wake up right now.. she could wake up in a week .. a month.. we just don’t know.” “A month??” Carol cried. The doctor sighed. “Carol. You know
EmDreams are funny. They’re strange and weird. Sometimes happy.. sometimes joyful and silly. Often they made no sense at all. At least from what she could remember. Because she didn’t have dreams anymore. Not since a couple of years ago anyway.. after everything with River and her dad. Since then, she only had nightmares. Of course she would have those peaceful moments .. when she was cuddled up to Asher or sleeping in a room full of people .. where she went the hours nightmare free. It’s funny how that works. Just knowing she was surrounded by people that love her gave her the comfort she needed to sleep peacefully. But she didn’t make the rules and that’s just how it was. Or maybe her subconscious had more power than she realized. Sure she may have had dreams, but none that she remembered. None that she was acutely aware of while she was sleeping. Not like she did in her horrifying nightmares. So for as far as she knew .. she didn’t have dreams. Until now … And this dream ..
QuinnHe had gotten to stay with Em for thirty minutes. The rules for the ICU were very strict. After twelve hours they could have visitors .. two at a time… for half an hour. Then the visitors left and the nurses and doctors would come in and check them.. change out medication and check their vitals or whatever else was needed .. The doctors and nurses had that thirty minutes .. then , two more people could come in. Half an hour of visitation and half an hour of rest .. even though the patients were being poked and prodded .. and not resting at all during that time. After forty eight hours .. they’d start bringing her off the medication.. lowering doses at first .. one at a time. Then they’d do the same with the machines. If that all went okay… they would move her to a regular room. It was a lot and very time consuming. But he was glad they were taking things slowly. Whatever got her better .. he was there for it. After Quinn and Carol came out .. his dad went in to visit. No one
