Anita was worried about her daughter so she decided to pick her up. She knew that Catherine had been blaming herself for losing her younger brother but it was their fault for not looking after their children during those times. Both of her and her husband were assured that their little angels would be safe since they would be just gone for a minute but little did they knew that in a glimpse one of their children could be missing.
Anita stopped the car outside the school gate and she was right on time since she had seen Catherine walked past the gate. Catherine heard a honk and saw her mother’s car which she found sort of unusual because it had been ages since her mother had picked her up but she wouldn’t want to risk commuting either so she went to her mom’s car.
“Hi, sweetie.” Her mother greeted her sweetly before starting the engine. The silence between her and her mother felt kind of awkward but she had nothing to say to Anita.
“Would you love to come and watch my class?” her mother asked
It sort of caught Catherine off-guard since her mother rarely invites her to watch her class or maybe because it was only herself who invites her to come to her mother’s ballet class.
For Anita, she thought it would be great if Catherine had a change of environment and she also knew that her female students sees Catherine as their inspiration. She was a talented ballerina and even considered as a child prodigy by a few instructors and those who had watched her. Catherine had even won a few awards in ballet but she became a wrecked after she lost her younger brother and eventually stopped dancing after 3 years. However, it didn’t really stop her from coming to Anita’s studios because she sometimes help her mother setting up the dance hall and sometimes even help her mother correct the forms of her mother’s students.
“Sure, yeah.” Catherine answered in a monotone voice. She has other things to work on but she thought she needed to preoccupy her mind for a while and needed to go somewhere where she wouldn’t think of her younger brother.
Anita and Catherine arrived a bit late and they saw the ballet dancers already warming up, however, they all stopped when they saw Catherine. It had been almost 2 months since she had visited because of her thesis and some other things she had been working on.
The ballerinas had always looked up to Catherine. She has the figure of a ballet dancer and a strong facial features that brings out a lot of charisma. Aside from that Anita had showed them videos of Catherine’s ballet competition and they would have thought that she could have been famous by now if she had not given up on ballet.
“Enough staring! The concert is almost nearing and there is still a lot to polish.!” Anita shouted and Catherine went to her spot which is near the sound system as she would be operating it.
“You may take a 15 minutes break.” Anita shouted after they finished their warm up. Since Catherine had nothing ti do she took out a novel from her bag and started reading but stopped when she heard a music playing. She lifted her head and saw the ballet dancers practicing. It was only past 5 minutes and usually students would rest the whole break or so she thought.
But then it looks like it was the ballerinas solo that they were practicing and Catherine could see that some of them are still struggling in the movement. Catherine just shook her head and continued reading but then she felt some ballerinas approached her.
“Hey, Catherine can you help us out?” Hazel asked nervously and it looks like she was the one who had been pushed to talk to her. Catherine just continued reading her novel until the silence got awkward. Anita saw her students waiting for the response of Catherine so she approached them.
“Ladies, if you please.” Anita said in a gentle manner and the ballerinas went back to their position. She had been trying to make her daughter interact with people but it was no use. Catherine still thinks that she might lose her friend if she got attached to them. Anita had thought that it was an unnecessary thought, however, she couldn’t blame Catherine either for having that kind of idea.
“Sweetie, it does no harm if you help them.” Catherine closed her novel and looked at her mother “I’m not the instructor.“ There was no hint of emotion when Catherine said that and Anita knew that this conversation will gain nothing but she thought it is worth trying.
“They just want your help because you are an inspiration to them.” Anita knew she had said the wrong statement when she saw Catherine scoffed a bit. “Well if that’s the case they should quit ballet, don’t you think?” Anita gave a sad smile to Catherine and tucked Catherine’s hair “Sweetie, I know what you feel but you don’t have to keep that forever.”
After that Anita went to her students and told them that it was time to start the practice. Catherine went back to reading the novel, however, what her mother said left her in distraught. She hated when her mother does that. She knew that her mother was quite right and that her mother knows what she really is going through but she couldn’t help it. The nightmares hunt her in her dreams and in her reality and the only way for it to be gone is to find Felipe. She shrugged of the thoughts as she was here to clear her head and so she just watched the ballet dancers practice their piece for the upcoming Ballet Concert.
Saturday classes are something that Catherine had been dreading. She’d very much rather work on her own and spend the entire day in the library for the Related Literature part of her thesis, or patching up news articles of missing children—something she had been doing for so long, and ate up her summers for the past nine years—in order to see if there are similarities between the missing kids and Felipe’s. She made it a point to finish all her works in order to play detectives always. She refused to let this case rest. It doesn’t matter whether Felipe’s dead or alive at this point—though she prays to God that he is well—all she needs is his presence. Her beating heart resented to stop aching for ten years now until Felipe’s found, and she fears the most that her soul might stay bothered for the rest of her life. She could do all of those&m
Catherine couldn’t comprehend what her mother was saying as her eyes and her mind was still fixated on the ballerina. She even thought that how could that professor criticize her. “It’s an emergency!” Catherine gained consciousness when her mother’s voice had gotten louder. Her mother sounded like she was in trouble so Catherine told her mother that she’ll be there immediately. She wanted to watch more, however, her mother needs her right now at her ballet class. She saw that there was ambulance outside her mom’s ballet school when she arrived so she hurriedly went inside and saw Courtney. the leading ballerina, got injured. Catherine went to her worried mother and asked, “Wha
Ever since she found her heart captivated by this unnamed ballerina, Catherine had been finding time in order to catch a peek of the dance hall where this ballerina mostly practiced, at the same time hoping to know her name too. Catherine imagined scenarios of chance encounters with this girl and formally introducing herself, but she thought that these imaginations are too good to be true. She thought that she’s too shy to even introduce herself, and the chance encounters she imagined are far from possible from happening. As mentioned, eavesdropping wasn’t really her thing, until the moment she saw this girl perform. She had to learn more about her, though the only thing she gets was a heavy heart whenever the same instructor who criticize her movements. She cannot remember a time where this man complimented her. It’s always harsh inputs and Catherine could have sworn that one time, she saw tears trickling down her rosy
Catherine and Lyra arrived at her mom’s ballet school only to find that the audition had finished. “That’s a wrap, everybody.” Her mother said and her students clapped. Catherine saw Lyra a bit disappointed and she knew that Lyra wanted the role, too. She even thinks that Lyra knew about this Ballet Concert but because of the negative criticism she gets from her professor she may have decided not to audition. “My mother did not inform me about ending the audition this early so we have a good reason for you to have the late audition.” Anita saw her daughter talking to a young lady she had never seen before so she approached them. “Mom, this is Lyra Gomez and she’s here to audition.” Catherine knew that her mother is strict about punctuality and she was ready to have her mother’s scolding but she’s eager to let Lyra have the leading role. “If there is anything that I wouldn’t let it pass
Catherine was running late for her class when she passes by the dance hall and hearing the unnamed professor say something about the auditions. There, Catherine already knew that it was Lyra who’d been receiving this unnecessary lecture, so she gathered all her guts, took a deep breath and pushed the door open, entering the dance hall. Everyone in the class looked at her with their eyes widened, including Brittany, who was looking at Catherine with flirting eyes, Lyra, whose eyebrows were furrowed and nearly in tears, and the instructor with a confused expression plastered on his face. “Pardon me, but I can’t help but overhear about Lyra’s audition in my mom’s production.” “Catherine Hernandez! Daughter of that amazing Anita Hernandez. What about the audition?” “I don’t mean to interrupt
Catherine had always been looking forward to her free day as she either get to do her thesis or play detective and sometimes both but today she decided to find her brother Felipe as she have found a person to help her — big time. She went to Tacky’s apartment holding a brief case containing all the data that could help her find her brother Felipe. They went to the same room or which Catherine would love to call the “FBI” room as there was so much technology in there. Tacky is a computer engineer and a mystery nerd that she had met during a project in a general subject. “Here are all the files.” Catherine handed the documents to Tacky immediately and she observed Tacky checking each document.&nb
School holidays were when Catherine felt absolutely grateful because after her thesis works, she finally gets to attend to the mystery she’s been wanting to solve for years now. Finally, she’s got her hand on the flash drive that contained the CCTV footage, and she reached Tacky’s apartment door. She knocked in a special pattern for Tacky to know that it was her. After a few seconds, the knob of the door twisted and Tacky welcomed Catherine with a smile. “So,did you have it?” “I have, and God, do I hope that this solves our case once and for all.” Tacky held the door open and Catherine stepped in. She, once again, observed her surroundings and admired how nerdy Tacky is with his outrageous amount of devices around, most of which she doesn’t know the name
The rehearsal had just finished and everyone else was packing up including Catherine who is helping her mother. Lyra shyly approached Catherine and Anita noticed her so she stopped for a moment and so did Catherine. “Lyra! I heard Cath’s taking you home.” Anita said it with a joyful manner making Catherine frown upon her mother’s excitement. “Y-yeah.” Catherine found Lyra cute when she’s a bit shy. Catherine even thought that Lyra looked like one of those anime girls that gets really cute when they blush or get embarrassed. “How about having dinner with us, first?” Anita suggested and both Lyrah and Catherine said “No”&
