CHAPTER 13: SYDNEY'S POV*** Continuous buzzing of the alarm I set on the eve of my first day at work made me stumble out of bed as I dashed towards my bathroom to get prepared for work. After having a warm bath, I stepped out and couldn't settle on a particular fit. I stared at the clothes in my wardrobe and discovered I needed a change as casuals weren't much in it. I settled on a blue skirt with a slit at the front and white chiffon sleeve and a pair of black heels. After putting on the fit, I completed my look with light makeup as usual and detangle my hair with a hot comb, letting it rest on my back without packing it in a ponytail or wrapping in a bun. I picked up my bag and stepped out of my apartment without having breakfast, hurrying to get a taxi with the aim of not falling in the trap of the devil duo. I boarded a taxi which dropped me at the entrance of the company and I paid the driver for his services before he drove off. I took a deep breath
CHAPTER 14: I reached my office and found it difficult to focus on work. I stood up from my seat and stepped out of the office, walking towards a particular direction I didn't know where it led. I reached the end and took another turn and in the next ten minutes after taking several routes, I reached the rooftops where I sat down and bawled my eyes out. I felt thousands of daggers, piercing through my heart as the scene replayed in my mind as tears slid down my cheeks, wetting my skirt. I remained like that for over an hour till realization hit me. "Why am I hurting myself because of him?" I questioned myself. "Why am I feeling attached to him?" I continued. "Do I even have the right to be angry?" I interrogated myself inwardly, trying to convince myself that all we had or shared was nothing but a one night stand. I stood up and returned to the office and realized my makeup was ruined and anyone will be able to notice I cried and I immediately dashed into
SYDNEY'S POV "I went there for a party so I decided to grab few drinks and I mistook you for someone else" I lied partially, trying not to maintain eye contact with him as he stared at me, as if trying to read my mind. "Did he believe me?" I asked myself. "Make me coffee" he ordered and squinted my gaze at him. "That's Dana's duty, why me?"I asked myself but reluctantly stood up and headed out of his office. I noticed Dana staring at me awkwardly on my way out and I just walked away without sparing her a glance.I didn't know his preference, so I made the coffee warm and returned to his office in fifteen minutes time as Dana gave me a questioning look, seeing me with the cup and saucer I just walked past her, ignoring the look. If I were in her shoes I'll feel the same way though because it seems like I'm trying to do her job, unknown to her the devil himself gave me the order. I reached the door to his office and opened it subconsciously without knoc
Cynthia glared at her, still shocked at her guts,"Wrench!" She squeals like a kid, attacking Sydney by the hair,"I'd kill you today, " dragging her hair, Sydney winched in pain, holding onto her roots,She immediately pushed her off herself,"You do what to get beaten up, don't you!?" Almost throwing a punch at her but she instead held herself, The receding walking steps of a familiar man resonated with her hearing, she turned to see Paxton, looking quiet,"Paxton, she...?" He held out his palm to silence her, looked at Sydney as she immediately hid her face in embarrassment, then silently walked away"Paxton!" Cynthia ran after him, standing there looking like a messed up kid, Sydney scoffed," you better let him be." Walked away heading for the bathroom, "Damnit!" She cursed at Cynthia as she saw herself in the mirror,"Why can't she just stay away from me and not bother me," she hissed, bringing her comb out of her bag,"Great to have an incompetent boss, who only seems to be i
In his office, fully designed to his taste, he tried to focus but nothing was coming through, he needed to finish up this work before the next meeting, he looked at his wristwatch it was almost dismissal time, he wanted to see, Sydney before he left for the clubhouse,Getting up, he walked out of his office, but Miss Dana was already at his door, "Miss Dana?" He whined, she must have come again with work."Boss, this is the final file for the drafting," she smiled handing him the big brown envelope."Where's Sydney? He asked, she looked at him, she had been itching to ask what their relationship was, Sir Jaxton seemed pretty much close to her as she was to Sir Paxton. Those two were like cats and rats."She fought with ma'am Cynthia and she's in Boss's office, am afraid that it might not end well." She clarified."Why did you bring the file and not Sydney." She walks in and keeps it on his table before saying, "Sydney is the company's marketer, not Secretary." He bits his lips, Paxt
It's been days since the last outburst between the two, and they both avoided themselves like plaques. Sydney naturally did everything to not annoy or provoke him, seeing her straight face each day, Paxton was more pleased to see her determination, and her slacking reduced to a minimum."Sir, this is the file you asked me to bring?" She spoke with a straight face and a voice sharp. He raised his head,"All done?" Surprised, she had finished this in less than an hour was intriguing. "Let me take a look" he requested, she immediately handed it over to him, and as he read he stole glances at her,"You know you don't have to stand like that, this is not a military camp" He sounded caring but he was being sarcastic,"Sorry, Sir I still have a lot of work to do but if that's ok by you I could go back to what I was doing or I could cross-check them for errors?" She answered ignoring his words,"Well, from what I see here, it seemed ok. You can go, have them duplicated into three places and
