The biggest mistake I ever made was underestimating Vincenzo's ability to make my life more miserable than it already was.

I had foolishly clung to the hope that maybe he was human after all, with a beating heart, capable of feeling emotions. I was wrong.

Where a heart should have been lay an encroaching darkness, corrupting every nerve in his body.

I was pinned against the wall, sweat trickling down my back as trepidation rattled through my bones. When Selene had told me Vincenzo was forcing me to a party, nothing could have prepared me for this.

Perhaps, I'd been too cocky. Now, he was bent on teaching me a lesson I'd never forget.

Vincenzo fed on fear like a ravenous demon. It made him ecstatic. Each glance he glanced in my direction, noting the rapid rise and fall of my chest and tremor in my limbs, seemed to ignite something sinister in those eyes.

He idly ran his fingers over the daggers while waiting for a question.

"Where's the safest place to hide money?"

The man who asked was

"Now, how did you get out of the manor?" I hissed, my lips against her soft skin as she struggled to free herself from my grasp."Let go of me!" she shrieked, her voice a broken tune as she struggled to contain the fear and panic surging through her. With her half-naked body pressed against my chest, I snaked an arm around her neck, trailing up until I gripped her chin in a rough grasp. I turned her face to meet mine. Her eyes were narrowed, her orbs holding an irate look in them."Each day, you grow more aggravating," I growled, my fingers digging into her supple skin. "I should kill you right now and leave your remains as dinner for the animals.""Then do it!" she spat out, her tone venomous as the look in her eyes. "I'm sick of you. I'm sick of everything."She meant it. But I wasn't going to take the bait. Why kill her now and grant her an easy death? When I still had bigger plans?I dragged her, keeping her hands pinned behind her back as I pushed her through the path. When we re

  • Caught in the Mafia King's Web   Deer In Headlights

I was clad in nothing but my bikini and a flimsy robe so thin it could've passed as paper, but I didn't care.I was free.Every muscle in my body burned as I ran, my breaths ragged and desperate. There was nothing in sight except for the towering trees lining both sides, their twisted branches casting shadows under the glow of the streetlamps.I don't know how long I ran, but I could feel my body getting exhausted, my hope dwindling as the roads and trees grew endless. I prayed to see a sliver of civilization. A gas station, a cottage...anything.Has Matteo noticed I've gone missing? Was he already coming after me?All I had to do was put as much distance between me and the mansion as possible. If it came down to it, I'd have to take my chances and run into the forest, without caring about what could be lurking in the darkness.Better to be torn apart by a wild animal than by a man like Vincenzo.I kept running, ignoring the sharp sting under my feet, and—Headlights!A flash of light

  • Caught in the Mafia King's Web   Where No One Would Find Me

AURELIA’S POVI was back home, a child with a bad habit of creeping around at night. It was darker than usual, and the barren shadows held a promise that something terrible was about to happen.I suddenly wanted to see my mama, my tiny legs leading me to her room. I was standing at the door when I heard a sudden loud bang. I jumped out of my skin, my heart racing. Was Papa awake? Would he punish me for walking around?Mama always condoned my habit, while Papa scolded me for it.Faint sounds echoed from the room, and as I pushed the door open, the scene in front of me made my brows furrow in confusion.Papa stood at the foot of the bed while Mama lay asleep on the bed, in an awkward position, which was weird because she always cradled her body whenever she slept. The door let out a creak, and I froze when Papa turned and saw me. He rushed to me and pulled me into his arms, telling me my mama had gone to heaven."She'd slipped in the bathroom and hit her head. I have to keep her in bed

He paused, staring into space as if searching deep into his memory. Then he spoke out. “I don’t know who it was. They were anonymous.”Anger flared through my chest. “Even when you were offered money?”He shook his head again, “W-we never met them.”When he assessed my reaction and saw I was starting to lose my tolerance, he broke down.“I swear! That’s the truth. If I knew, I would’ve told you,” he sucked in his breath as if choking on his miserable tears. “P-please have mercy!”He wasn't lying.Frustration rippled through me. It always came to this—always a dead end.Every name I’d crossed out of the list never had a hint of who was the mastermind, even right before I had their life brutally taken away from them, they never gave a name. The culprit had covered his tracks so carefully and neatly till the very end, like they knew someone would come searching for them. But there was always a loophole, a mishap in their plan. I just needed to find it.Having no use for the fat pig in fro

VINCENZOI had a life-long mission, one I’d sworn to myself to fulfill, even if it ended up killing me.It was a promise I made to the murdered Vittore family.I’d come up a list, procured with the help of one of most brilliant investigators. It came with a grand price, but it never shook me. I was ready to give my fortune to feel the blood of the culprit stain my bare hands. Hands that would murder their living offspring. In the outskirts of Naples, a home hid deep within the woods. It was neither modest to belong to an average man, nor grand enough to catch attention. Its seclusion was its defense, nestled around towering cypresses and oaks, their skeletal branches spreading into the night sky.My driver parked far from sight, leaving me to navigate the narrow dirt path leading to the house. The house stood eerily quiet, its wooden walls weathered, a faint golden glow seeping through the large curtains. He really thought no one would find him here.I had a hand in my pocket, holding

  • Caught in the Mafia King's Web   I'm Grateful

AURELIABrutality always unsettled me. I couldn't stomach it. I never understood people whose orbit rotated around invoking violence. The blood of a man—the man who attacked me earlier—was splattered on my face.I waited for the acerbic bile to rise in my throat, followed by the goosebumps breaking out on my skin, and an impending feeling of guilt that I'd just watched a man die because of me. But they never came.Violence, blood, and gore squirmed me. I'd pass on a good movie if it had these triggers, and bat more than an eye when met with one. Yet, this time was different.I'd watched every second of Vincenzo beating the shit out of the attacker.I could have stopped him, but I didn't, not because I was frozen to the ground, but because I didn't want to. I didn't stop him because I loved every bit of watching. From the bone-cracking sound of Vincenzo's fists connecting with the skull, down to the drops of blood splattered on my face. Even the way his muscles tightened— I loved it."Y
