Third Person POV

Artemis lay rigid on the bed, eyes open as if she were staring thoughtlessly at the ceiling. Killian and Helios had rushed off for a Royal emergency early hours this morning, Kazuo and Ayame had to go to work, though Diana and Khione promised they'd stay and accompany the two injured girls alongside Rei and Alec.

Currently, though, the room was silent, each person doing their own thing. Rei had taken Lillian for a walk around the gardens at the back of the hospital.

It was so quiet that Artemis was sure every thump of her heartbeat could be heard. It had been two days since she woke up, and her hearing had become sharper in that time. So much so that she could hear the rise and fall of Alec's chest across the room.

Last night, he'd reported to his C.O. that he'd met his target and asked if he'd like to start the mission in advance, given the kidnapping situation. It was safe to say the whole matter was urgently reported to those higher up, and it was decided the res

  • Caution to the wind   Through green eyes

Alec Rivers POVI'd be lying if I said this entire plan of Arte's didn't set me on edge. She was playing a dangerous game. Even so, someone in her position could afford to play games, even if they were life-threatening. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that playing games would forever be part of her life. From what I understood during the debriefing, 'Arte Jones' is...Quite typical. For her status, I mean. If you look at it from an outside point of view, she's a regular sixteen-year-old girl who has a wonderful family that adores her, she tries hard at school, and she's popular. It's no surprise. Despite her cold demeanour at school, she very much likes to help everyone she can. And, quite a few of her classmates, when interviewed, said that she always gave good advice, was great at listening, and often went out of her way, even for strangers. Does that sound like an Heiress to the biggest, most ruthless underworld family in Europe? The White family themselves downplay their

Artemis White's POVI sat quietly at a polished oak table in the private room of the restaurant I promised to take Cole to. I'd been waiting for thirty minutes, and the hidden reporters had captured it all. In my earpiece, I could hear Ace snorting as he watched the live reports. Given how I looked and my previously reported injuries, the media were painting me as a pitiful and dedicated girlfriend. It's exactly what I wanted. But in that silence, I couldn't help but think about the recent events of my life. It felt like everything was falling apart - Cole cheating, my kidnapping and torture, my injuries and blindness. It was...Enough to break me. But I couldn't let it. Not now. Not yet. I had too much to do. I know for a fact I looked the picture of innocence and elegance. Ace had done a wonderful job, and my posture and expression only fueled the fire. I sat quietly, looking anxious that he wouldn't arrive, my hands resting in my lap as my fingertips delicately traced the fabric o

  • Caution to the wind   The truth is a bitter pill

Third Person POV Artemis awoke to darkness. Pain. Voices that sounded so close and yet so far away, seemingly muffled by water. The beeping sound that wouldn't stop, and the buzz in her ears like a fly had invaded her knowledge box. She groaned, her eyes closed, still, her face twisting in pain. She could vaguely make out someone calling her name softly, but someone else yelling across the room. Every inch of her body pulsed as though it had been run over by a freight train - each time her heart thumped against her chest, images invaded her mind of the fists she endured. Her head was throbbing so loudly, so aggressively, with disjointed memories. The dry taste of drugs mixed with the refreshing but sour lemon water, the cold sting of metal chaining her in place like a feral animal. The hands of grown men, balled into fists, wailing on her as if she were some traitor. The knife that shredded her back like mere paper. Lillian was begging for help, screaming, pleading. And that dark

  • Caution to the wind   The price of their sins

Third person POV - TW - Drugs, kidnapping, torture, blood, death. Continue at your own risk.Sin. Sins. Sinning. There was a time when sin was a whisper - Soft, tempting, easily ignored. But sinning - as the world would come to know it - was never just an act of defiance. It was a pact. A willful severing from 'what is right', traded for the illusion of gain. From the first betrayal carved into the bones of creation to the quiet lies told in the dark, sin has always borne a cost. It promises you your greatest desires. Power. Love. Riches. Protection. The death of your most hated. Whatever you crave, it grants you - At the cost of blood. It collects it. In silence. In scars. Some seem to think they can outrun it. Hide from it. Bury or ignore it. But one thing sin always gets right is how it comes back to the sinner. Every time. In the beginning...It wasn't borne of violence. But of choice. A willing action. Perhaps you considered the consequences before you chose to sin, or mayb

  • Caution to the wind   She who opens her eyes

Artemis White's POV - TW - Drugs, kidnapping, torture, blood, death. Continue at your own risk.It was dark again. Not the gentle dark of sleep or dreams. This was vast. Endless. Empty. This was a void, and I was floating in it. No pain, no worries, no thoughts. Just silence. Then, she appeared. "They're hurting her", she stated. Her voice cracked a little, overwhelmed by emotion but trying to keep it in. "Are you going to let them keep hurting her? Are you going to keep hiding?" She asked me, genuinely. She was going to respect my answer even if it was the wrong one.I crinkled my nose slightly "I tried," I whispered. "I wanted to wait. To be strong and smart. To be calm. Be good. I wanted to wait and be rescued." I told her."It got us chained from the ceiling while they tortured the first ever friend we made", she said. She wasn't angry or shouting. She was trying to reason with me, use logic and facts. I winced. I could hear a sound. Not in my ears - In my bones. Even now, I cou
