Third-person POV
A door slammed, startling the family of four that sat on the sofa enjoying the TV. "What on EARTH was that?" Eldest son, Helios, asked his family. Khione and their father, Killian, just shrugged. On the other hand, Diana, their mother, immediately shot up and briskly walked in the direction of their foyer. There, she saw her youngest and most darling Princess kicking off her sneakers with aggression. "Baby, it's so late. What's wrong? Don't tell me...You didn't lose, did you?! There's no way!" Diana said, eyes rounding as she gasped in dismay.
Artemis sighed and shook her head "Of course not, mother. You know how hard I train, I always reach my goal" This seemed to reassure Diana as she'd then let out the breath she was holding and smiled gently "You're right, I'm being silly. If not that, what's wrong?" Diana asked, but was met with those mismatched eyes of fury that seemed to say she'd set everything ablaze if she could! "I think Cole is cheating on me, mother", Artemis said with a calm and steady voice.
This time, it was Diana's turn to rage. On instinct, her hand reached for the vase that stood beautifully on the white table in the foyer next to a very expensive, very rare bowl purchased in France. Diana's hand swiped at the vase, sending it flying across the foyer as she hissed in pure, unfiltered anger. The three family members who were left alone in the living room came to see the commotion, shocked to see Diana emitting a heavy, dark, killing energy. Her horns were out and so was a thin black tail that whipped against the ground viciously, her fangs baring at the thought of tearing apart that good-for-nothing boy!
"Woah, I haven't seen mum this angry in...Well, since Apollo..." Khione said, filled with tension. Helios agreed, and Killian approached cautiously, trying to calm down his wife with every slow step "Dear...How about you calm down just a tad and tell us what's wrong? Maybe we can fix it together..." He tried to reason. Instead, Diana's hand reached and swatted the bowl across the room next, hissing at her husband when she turned to face him. "Calm down a tad?! Killian Jones! If I told you what was wrong, you'd be raging right here with me!" She yelled, taking a beat before continuing, "That bastard boy is cheating on our Princess! Let me call Miguel, I'll send Ace after that wretched soul!" Diana went to reach for her phone but was stopped when Artemis sighed, grabbing her wrist "Stop this. Calm down, call someone to clean up your mess and then meet me in the living room! All of you!" Artemis commanded with a stern voice, almost making her mother flinch like a scolded child!
The woman put her horns, tail and fangs away, pouting as she asked a maid to clean up the pieces and throw them away. Killian patted her back and gently escorted her to the living room while trying to console her after being scolded by their precious Princess. They all took a seat on the sofa, staring at Artemis, who looked at them seriously, her arms folded across her chest. "First things first; He's been lying to me for a while. I found out tonight. Secondly, Lil revealed he was staring at another girl and even possibly followed her into the changing rooms after the freestyle today. THIRDLY" Artemis' eyes turned sharp as she emphasised 'thirdly', staring at her family "I will be the one to ruin him, you all will stay out of it! I'm the one who was betrayed after all! Also, mother, I'll take you up on your offer, so schedule my training immediately! I want the best, even if they have to come from across the world. I'll settle for no one less. I want the top 1 teachers in all subjects from around the world - WORLD RENOWNED. And I want them here by Monday." Artemis said, raising an eyebrow when she was finished. A silent 'understood?' to her family. They all nodded firmly with pursed lips.
Afterwards, Artemis ran upstairs, showered, changed and went back out without a word! Khi inhaled deeply and then exhaled dramatically, throwing herself backwards. "I always forget just how much of our parents' killing intent she inherited...The youngest sister, yet she's the scariest in the family!" Khione whined seriously. Helios nodded, looking at his father with narrowed eyes "And this is why I voted for Arte to take over instead of me!" He clicked his tongue, snapping his neck away in a huff. The truth was, his palms were sweating! He'd also forgotten just how scary their little Princess could be because she's so sweet and kind 90% of the time!
Killian picked up a biscuit off a plate on the coffee table, broke a bit off and threw it at his son with a grumble. "I had no choice! Your mother wants her to be her heir, and I don't want our Princess to be stressed and have to split her time between two positions! It pains me to think about her greying at such a tender age..." The man sighed as if truly heartbroken. Helios was shocked! 'What about me?!' he thought...Which was quickly replaced with 'Oh right, I forgot we're second best when it comes to Arte! But that's okay!'
Meanwhile, Artemis was sitting at Apollo's bedside, reading him a story that she'd written just for him. She'd been doing it since they were children, though she was much better now. Once a week, she'd write a new story, and when the old one was finished, she'd read the new one to him. This one was about a little boy who was separated from his family and lost in the dream world. Occasionally, the nurses and Doctors would come to sit with the twins, chatting and listening to Artemis read and talk to Apollo.
As she was reading the part about the boy closing his eyes and drifting into the dream world, Doctor Harrington walked in with Nurse Allena. They were a married couple who came by often to see the family, and they were also the ones who attended to Apollo primarily. They quietly took a seat, the man sipping his cup of tea while the woman took graceful bites of a sandwich.
Artemis had read two chapters before she slid the bookmark in and closed the book, slipping it back into her bag. Then, she smiled at the couple, pulling out a lunchbox of her own. "Artemis, your writing is beautiful as always. I quite enjoy this story. What was your inspiration?" Doctor Harrington asked. Artemis nodded her head to Apollo with a bitter smile, "My brother, the boy who got lost in his dreams, yet to return to us".
Nurse Allena looked upon Artemis with sad eyes. No matter what, Artemis came to visit her brother every day and each week, she had a new story. The two always wondered how she did it. Nurse Allena sighed and placed her left hand on her left cheek with a sorrowful expression "Dear, are you sure you're not overworking yourself? I mean, between all your visits, your writing, school and lessons, competitions...Do you have any time for yourself to relax?" The woman worried. Artemis nodded with a giggle, "Of course. I have time to myself, but this is also my relaxation time. I like talking to my brother."
The couple couldn't help but think Artemis' parents raised a wonderful, beautiful, kind and loyal child! "Ah, that reminds me. I made you both some chicken noodle soup. I left it in the staff kitchen with a label on for you," Artemis said. Allena swooned, "You spoil us! You know how much we love your cooking!" Artemis chuckled. Indeed, she knew well how much they loved her cooking. It wasn't fake kindness either. This couple had no idea how to lie, truly. When they ate Arte's cooking, their eyes smiled and sparkled!
Before they knew it, break time was over, and the couple went back to work. When they came back again, it was already 4 am, and Artemis had crawled into bed with her twin, cuddling him. The two looked like young children - Very, very beautiful children. Allena quietly strolled over and pulled up the blanket for them both, tucking them in. Just then, she paused, her eyes rounding in shock. She could have sworn Apollo's finger just twitched! She whipped her neck to her husband and then rushed over, pushing him out of the room.
In the hallway, she whisper-shouted, "This might sound crazy, honey, but I swear I just saw Apollo's finger move!" She blinked at him, tears pooling in the corner of her eyes. She knew how desperately the family wanted their youngest to awaken. Artemis especially. "Okay, dear, don't cry. When Artemis leaves, we'll do some tests. Calm down, let's go get you some of that soup," the man smiled, gently guiding his wife away from the room.
An hour later, Artemis woke up with a groan, checked the time and sighed, slowly picking her things up. She kissed Apollo's forehead, then his left cheek, his right cheek and finally his nose. She smiled down at him and whispered, "I love you, Lolo. I'll see you tomorrow, okay? The whole family will be here" With that, she reluctantly left. Upon arriving home, she was greeted by Helios. "How is he?" He asked immediately. "Same as usual", Arte sighed, removing her shoes. She walked by her brother and threw her bag onto the armchair in the living room before jumping onto the sofa with a huff.
"Hey, are you...Really going to take over for Mum?" Helios asked, his face laced with concern. Arte nodded, giving him a reassuring smile. "I know that you and Khi have things that you want to do...Thankfully, Khi has accomplished her dream while you...You're stuck. Being an heir to something you don't want. I'm sorry, big brother," Artemis genuinely apologised, knowing her brother had grand dreams of becoming an F1 racer. It was a dream that was selfishly torn away from him, and he had no choice but to keep it as a hobby instead.
Helios smiled sheepishly at her "No, it's alright. It's not your fault. I should have known I'd never be allowed to do what I wanted, especially given how I was raised. I was raised to be Dad's heir and nothing more. It was by accident I discovered my dreams," the man sighed out, a hand raking through his snow white hair. The children of the Jones and White couple were truly divine-looking.
Helios had snow white hair, just like Diana and baby blue eyes like his father. He wasn't as built as his father, but he would no doubt get there by the time he was his father's age. Instead, he was well-built with broad shoulders, a defined chest that showcased the hours he put into training since he was but a dot. His arms were thick and powerful, and any shirt that he wore was often very tight. His biceps and triceps rippled when moved, and his thighs and calves were equally as powerful. His skin was slightly tanned from the work he'd been doing outside under the sun recently, and it suited him. At the age of 20 years old, Helios White-Jones stood at the height of 6 feet 3 inches.
Their sister, Khione, was an 18-year-old beauty who started her own chain of companies and was quite successful. Her hair was also white and curled like her mother's, and her eyes were the same baby blue as their fathers, but she had her mother's pale, milky skin and a slim-thick build. She was graceful, slim, an hourglass figure with thick thighs. She always walked with her back straight and her chin high, the perfect example of a wealthy young lady who suffered her whole life through etiquette lessons. Many spoke of her highly, and she was often referred to as the 'Lotus of high society'. They called her a Lotus because of her beauty and charm. Often thought of as a beautiful water nymph sent from the heavens to charm the world. She very well could have pursued a career in modelling, and she would have wiped the floor with every model. She took after her mother in height, the two of them standing at 5 feet 7 inches.
Apollo was just as gorgeous as his siblings. White hair with a single black streak, his skin had a natural olive hue from their father, and the tips of his ears were ever so slightly pointed. His parents often joked that he was really a little elf. Due to his many years in a hospital bed, Apollo was quite slim, but was also quite tall at 6 feet 1 inch. Unlike the other two, Apollo inherited his mother's golden eyes.
Artemis, on the other hand, was incredibly special. An enigma. Her birth records are secret, whereas Apollo's are public. Everything about Artemis that pointed to how special she was was locked up and had a 'top secret' label slapped on it. However, there was no denying her beauty. She inherited her father's straight, raven-black hair, but she strangely had two streaks of white that made it seem as though she'd dyed white money-pieces into the front of her hair. She was an ethereal beauty with porcelain-pale skin with a soft, milky hue that seemed to glow under the light. Her bare body was the perfect balance between strength and elegance: Athletic and muscular, yet lean and lithe with gorgeous curves and thick thighs. What truly made her stand out as Divine were her mismatched eyes. Her left was a pale, baby blue that she inherited from her father and her right, a striking golden colour, inherited from her mother. Artemis was 5 feet 9 inches tall and often wore blue contacts to blend in a bit better. Though a few people outside of her family did know about her beautiful, natural eyes.
Diana and Killian, along with their relatives, were immensely proud of the four children and loved them more than words could express. Not a single relative of theirs was spared mercy when it came to swooning over the children, especially Arte. She was the picture of balance and divinity - the perfect blend of both families.
After lazily chatting for a few minutes, Artemis began to doze off, and Helios just watched her, a small smile on his face. When she was fast asleep, he picked her up and took her to her room, tucking her in. He couldn't help but stare at her and sigh, thinking about what he'd discovered earlier.
'How could anyone betray her? She's the balance and glue of the Jones and White families! Besides, her identity is extraordinary! Maybe that Cole kid has some screws loose...Perhaps I should pay the Academy a visit!'
And as he walked to his own room, his thoughts solidified. He was going! He was going to hide his identity and become a transfer student!
The grin on his face as he walked must have said he was up to something, because when Khione saw it, she jumped out of her room and folded her arms across her chest with eyes that screamed, 'Why do you look so suspicious?'
She took Helios by surprise, and the man almost yelped! "Goddess! Khi, you know not to sneak up on me when I'm in deep thought!" The man huffed, glaring at his sister. The woman made a 'hmmm' sound before nodding, "That's exactly why I snuck up on you, brother! You look like you're up to something! If it's about Cole...Don't do it! Artemis warned us!" She tried to scold, earning a smirk from Helios!
He ushered them both into her room and sat her down. With a wide, evil grin, he explained his plan to her and when he was done...Khione decided she wanted in!!
Artemis White's POVMy mind had been scrambled, focused on the upcoming event. I'd requested that all children under the age of seven be prohibited from entering the event for safety reasons. It was a reasonable request, one that Ayame was happy to fulfil. RSVP's had flooded my mother's office - responses from both her own contacts and allies, as well as Ayame's, father's, Heli and Khi's contacts and allies. People from all over would be attending, each from a different field, but with aligned goals and motivations. Some were plain as day - They wanted to catch a glimpse of the next heiress. Others, I was warned to keep an eye on. Not everyone attending was an ally, but not all non-allies were a threat. Most attendees held a neutral stance and were primarily interested in joining due to personal friendships. But just yesterday, Ayame pulled me aside to warn me. "Arte. The Voss family will be in attendance," she had said. I'd heard of them before - arms dealers. They purchased and s
Third Person POVArte blinked at the door. She took in the appearance of their in-laws and then slowly looked at Malik with a confused expression. She leaned in and whispered, "I feel like you've deceived me, brother", she said with a sceptical tone. Malik tilted his head at her with a grin "Whatever do you mean, sister?" He knew exactly what she meant. "The way you spoke, I thought your mother would be a little old lady! Your parents don't look a day over thirty, you liar!" She whisper-yelled at him. Malik turned his face away, very obviously trying to hide his laughter. His muscular shoulders were shaking, giving it all away. Arte playfully slapped his chest with a huff "What a shock!" It was true. Seeing Malik's family caused her the shock of a lifetime. She imagined them to be a little elderly couple with a whole litter of kids and cute little farm outfits and maybe a straw hat or two. The month-long image she'd conjured in her head was shattered with one mere glance. Malik's
Artemis White's POV A month had passed in a flash. The manor had become so loud, so populated - More than it ever had been. And yet, my head seemed much louder. Since I was forced into a simulation where the people I cared for had died, I tried my best to bury the memories. But it's hard to forget watching people you've become close to choke on their own blood and then die or get crushed under a roof before you even have the chance to save them. For the first two weeks after the incident, I did no physical training at all. The only thing that I did was medical training with Theo and Emma. Restricting my focus to their lessons and being guided by them really helped me mentally. I still fumbled occasionally, but I was now much more confident. After the two weeks, I slowly started to ease back into the lessons with my other instructors. My schedule had become busy again, and Malik had taken on the task of my meals instead of Ayame. They were less restrictive, I could pick and choose wh
Third-person POVA storm of darkness raged in anger, swirling and destroying everything around Artemis. She sat peacefully in the centre of that dark storm, eyes heavy. The screen showed them slowly closing, Artemis leaning more and more to the side, until she finally dropped with a thump that made even Ayame flinch. The screen was black, and only the sound of Arte's ragged breaths came through the monitor. All of a sudden, the lights in the facility began to dim and flicker. Ayame's breath caught in her throat as she watched a figure claw her way out of Arte's shadow. Right in front of them. In the real world. She was tall. Beautiful. Inky black hair pooled in a perfectly straight blanket down her back, stopping at her waist. Her eyes were pitch black, completely. Her skin was pale, almost translucent under the sterile lights. She wore the shadows like a dress, barefoot. A crown of void and silver veins sat atop her head. "Tempest..." Ayame whispered. "She's a Spirit Queen..." Th
Third Person POVArtemis paused at the threshold of the 'comm-lab' - A room that originally looked like a high-end security room and now looked even more high-end, techy and secure, blinking as banks of consoles and tangled cables sprawled before her. She’d spent years burrowing through encrypted networks and dismantling firewalls in midnight raids on corporate servers, assisting the military with her hacking skills, but field communications were a different beast. Captain Mara Quinn - Signal - turned from a holo-terminal, braid swinging over her shoulder like an antenna. She offered Artemis a half-smile. “You know your way around code, White. But this” - she held up a handheld scrambler - “is hardware. We’ll start with the basics.” Artemis was slightly taken aback by the change in Mara's personality. She was usually so kind and graceful. Now she just seemed cold and detached. Nonetheless, she accepted the device, running a fingertip over its matte surface and tiny LED screen. Un
Artemis White's POV"Today, we start from zero", Herrington said. He removed his jacket, revealing a short-sleeved shirt and arms covered in faded campaign tattoos. His skin was a story of every time he was deployed. Every battle, every comrade gained and lost. I could feel admiration and respect welling within me, more than I already had for him. "We build the body before we teach it how to fight", he explained. I listened carefully, nodding when he looked at me with eyes that asked if I was listening. "I need to know what you're capable of already. At your core," he said, pulling a chalk from his pocket and drawing a table on a chalkboard that sat on the wall. I'd never seen it before, so it must have been something Herrington brought in. In each row were 'speed', 'strength' and 'stamina'. It seemed as though he was going to grade my basic abilities first, before deciding on his method of building my body. "Let's warm up. Copy me," he said, placing the chalk down. For three minute
