KAIDEN

I washed quickly, frustrated and not understanding what had just happened.

Right in my arms, I had felt her shut down, and no matter how I wracked my brain, I knew there had been no way for me to stop it.

I had felt her walls go up in our bond until I could only feel her frustration and a little anger seeping through the cracks.

“Faith,” I said, turning off the water and getting out of the shower quickly as I heard her sniffle. My heart clenched at the thought of her crying, and my eyes immediately landed on her face, searching for any signs of tears, but there were none.

She was standing in front of the mirror but wasn’t looking at her body.

She was staring at the ceiling with a pained expression as if trying to find the courage to look.

They weren't bad, faintly pink in most places, red in others, but they didn't take away from how incredible she looked.

“You’re beautiful,” I said, and she laughed dryly. “If you want the marks gone, drink my blood. I don't mind."

“No!”

    FAITH Within a few minutes of Kaiden leaving, I was dressed and opening the hidden panel in the wall by our bed. If he thought I wasn’t going to follow him and be a part of this, he was so wrong. Even if I wasn’t directly in the conversation, they were discussing my life and my future. He should damn well expect me to want to hear what was said about whether I would live or die.I moved through the walls silently, counting each turn until I reached the stairs and then tracked the rooms I was passing with my fingers trailing across the dirty wall.
