How was this chapter?
Just when it felt like all hope was lost, a bright light covered my eyes and I was transported to a different place. The sound of birds chirping reached my ears, there was a floral smell in the air that was soothing to my nerves. There was a beautiful lake that reflected the yellow sky above.“Avery,” a warm voice sang in my ears and a soft hand caressed my forehead. When I turned around, my eyes met with a pair of delicate brown eyes, very similar to the ones I saw when I looked at my reflection in the mirror. The women behind me had chocolate brown hair falling down her shoulders in silky waves. Was she…“I am your mother, Avery. Maria Whitlock.” she said and I was shocked.“Mom?”“Yes sweetie.” her face held a certain amount of love and kindness that was very similar to my great grandmother Clarissa. She cupped my face and her touch lit up the darkest corners of my heart. Not being able to hold my emotions anymore, I hugged her and cried my heart out. When I learned that the people
The bullet shot from the pistol froze in mid-air. I was shocked.A familiar raven entered with the sound of its flapping wings through the window and relief washed over me. Finally, Malphus was here.Malphus sat on the gold railing of the staircase at the side and croaked. A different voice spoke in my head.“I am transferring some of my powers to you.”The bullet fell on the floor with a clink and Aisel noticed the raven. Malphus used the time-freezing spell but it appeared more powerful than the one I used. But Malphus told me he couldn’t do magic. Then, how? Before Aisel would make a move, my body slid down to the floor and I could move freely. My palms tingle and a bright blue light emerge on my hands.“Don’t morph it into a weapon. Throw the ball on Aisel,” the voice said. It sounded deeper.I did as told and threw the sphere of light at Aisel. He dodged it, but the light crashing with the wall behind spread into the entire room. Aisel and Sam’s feet were glued to the floor by th
“You asked me earlier how I did the transporting thing, Avery. Its because I have witch powers in me,” Sky started and I was almost about to spill the sprite from my glass. “What?!” Jannet nodded. “I am a werewolf cum witch. A hybrid. A first of a kind. Just like the Alpha,” he jerked his head at Dominic who was silently listening while running his hand down my back in a circular motion. “The Alpha is a hybrid too?” Jannet asked. Since she was deep into the matter, there was no point in keeping her in the dark. “Yeah. He is demon and a wolf.” I said and looked at Dominic. “Wow.” Jannet had intrigue written all over her place. “How are you a hybrid, Sky? Was any of your parent—” “A witch? Yes. You know that person too well. Aisel.” I took a large gulp of the sprite. Aisel??? Out of all the people. This was why I felt like Aisel’s behavior was similar to someone I knew. It was Sky. They both had the kind of creepy smile which hid a lot of secrets behind its facade. I should hav
Brief Explanation of Chapter 37: Vol 2 Castiel’s powers include trapping a person in the realm of their mind. Avery was pushed into the magical realm, which was inside her mind. A person’s mind in this fiction is made up of thoughts, memories, and all. Castiel can manipulate a person’s mind by creating illusions of people the person loves to be against them. Samuel’s mind was connected to Avery’s through Castiel’s power, so the fight between the two happened. Next, the white corridor with doors is the corridor of her memories. When she opens one door, she sees a bad memory of the day her fake mom and dad discussed how she was of no use. Castiel can manipulate what she sees, so she sees all the bad things around herself that slowly start to break her mentally. All those figures attacking her are strong illusions of the mind played by Castiel to mentally weaken her since Avery is not very confident in herself. He targeted her weak spot. But when Avery was on the verge of giving up, the
JANNET’S POVThe wolves ran straight at the gate and crashed with it, but the gate didn’t move an inch. Instead, the wolves were shot with electricity by touching the gate and all of them fell to the ground. Woah!More wolves stepped out of the forest and stopped when they saw the wolves getting shocked by touching the gates. They couldn’t come forward since they would be hit by the electricity too. Some of them aimed for a long jump, but the spines on the gate morphed to round heads and shot a red light at them. The red light was lethal enough to burn them to the ground. I was stunned by all of this since I had no idea that the Alpha’s mansion was equipped with these kinds of weapons. The man was a genius. Most of the wolves did not dare to jump or move ahead, concerned about getting killed. But a man walked out of the forest in a brown suit and black trousers. He had a mustache and I wondered if he was Castiel. When I entered his mansion with Sky, which I realized to be the earlier
JANNET’S POVBefore I could throw the bottle at Mathews, I felt a pain in my chest and dropped to the ground the roof. The man beside me held me from falling. “Hey! Are you okay?” the others also saw me but they couldn’t move from their position or else we would lose. I held my chest as the pain intensified and the air felt thinner. I took long breaths to get more oxygen into my lungs. One of the female snipers said, “It's Castiel. He saw her on the roof.” Shit! The man holding me placed my back against the wall. A few seconds passed and the pain subsided. I could finally breathe. “Is it better?” the man asked and I nodded, showing him my thumb. “Good. You should stay out of the man’s sight. Or else he will kill you.” he said and got back into his position. I sighed deeply and stared up at the sky. There was nothing but dark clouds and a few birds flying. I needed to know if Candice was safe or not. I slowly rose to my feet. Taking some of the bottles with me, I took the stairs
Candice threw the vial at me and I dodged it, but the liquid fell on the floor. It scattered on the floor, dissolving the candle wax in a second. I stumbled back to keep my feet away from the liquid. From the look in her eyes, I could tell she did not expect the liquid to be this strong either. We were both at opposite ends of the room, the liquid occupying the space between us. If any of our feet touched the liquid it would burn our skin like wolfsbane did to wolves.Candice was a wolf, which I got to know a few minutes ago, but the liquid she on the floor was far more dangerous and effective than wolfsbane. I heard from Dominic once that it was like concentrated acid and could burn anyone. He did not have a lot of it in store because it was rare like the herb Nile which Sky and Jannet bought from Hollow Hills.Unfortunately, she was close to the door while I was on the other end of the room. “Good luck, friend.” she was about to step out of the room when I did the time freezing spel
AVERY’S POV While I concentrated upon this candle's flickering flame and chanted the incantation, I heard my mother's voice in my thoughts whispering, "Have faith in yourself, Avery." I can accomplish this. I had to. With electricity and adrenaline jolting up my spine, every hair on the back of my neck stood up. The gap between my brows itched, and I had the weight of a boulder on top of my head. With each second I spent muttering the spell, the prickly sensation gained strength. The magnitude of the process was staggering. I shut my eyes due to feeling dizzy and allowed the darkness to comfort me. I resorted to the brief but treasured moment I had with my mom, seeking strength in the darkness. "Stand up for love." The stillness echoed her words. I regarded the people for whom I needed to perform this spell. Despite the exceptionally bitter and cold weather, my system was steadily heating up from within. Initially soothing, the heat soon became unbearably hot, as if the candl
