Chapter Twenty-Three

We'd all sat back down in our chairs to process and talk over everything, but I couldn’t concentrate. The gloop from the pictures had a dreadful lingering aftertaste and I couldn’t shift it. Drink wasn’t washing it away either.

“What the hell was on those pictures?” I mumbled while rapidly trying to scrape the taste off my tongue with my fingers.

It wasn’t working and the group were laughing at me. All except Jesse, who was trying to remove the taste with his teeth. Arabella picked up her backpack and pulled out a water battle filled with a bright purple liquid. She stood and made her way over to us.

“Drink this, it will help,” she ordered while holding out the bottle.

I snatched it from her hand. The bad taste was getting worse. It wasn’t like a hot spice or anything, it was more like I’d just licked the inside of a dumpster. I flipped the top of the bottle and guzzled the purple liquid as soon as it hit the pit of my stomach, I jerked forward and threw it back up, just missing Arabe
