Anna Harris
Uncontrollable tears, a contant ache in my chest and a numb mind, I am walking on the streets with my handbag which contains a few dollars and my academic documents. I am thankful to Aiden who managed to fetch them for me at the mean time.
I would probably start hunting for a job but it seems crying for the moon after the news of my Dad's arrest and our company going bankrupt spread like a wildfire. I am not unknown to this city. I regret joining my family and my friends to the high profile parties and night clubs. They know me well and the constant stares from the passing by peddlers. It is like a poison that I have to swallow down my throat.
I deserve it all.
I stopped by a small cafe by the side of the road to grab a latte to give peace to my throbbing head. A cup of coffee isn't pricey at this place which would help me to save money for rainy days.
Well, I am facing a stormy day.
I walk inside the diner, covering my face with my scarf to avoid unnecessary attention. I stand by the counter to order my coffee. The waitress working behind the counter gasps when her big blue eyes recognize me.
"Can I have a cup of creamy latte, please?" I ask her politely ignoring the judging expression on her face.
"Sure, just give me a minute. I'll be right back." She nods her head frantically and scurries away. I look down at the the floor so the few customers inside the cafe and the workers won't figure out my personality or I'd be leaving with an empty stomach but a bucket full of abuses and humiliation.
The same waitress returns after three long minutes with other two waitresses. Their stares are the proofs that they're going to make a scene there.
I quickly grab my coffee mug and place the bill on the counter. Without saying a word, I rush out of the cafe but I hear them laugh behind my back.
"Look at the whore of the nation. She's probably hunting another rich dick to spend the night. Thank God! We're not rich bitches like her. At least, we can screw men without being noticed by the public."
Their words hit like sharp arrows but whom should I blame? I brought it upon myself and I must suffer the consequences till my last breath.
I wipe my tears and continue walking on the roadside. I tried calling my best friend, Eda but her phone directly went to voice-mail. I can't just go to her apartment without a prior information.
While, I am busy contemplating with any possible options, my phone screen flashes with Eda's number. I wasted no time in picking up the call.
"Eda..."
Tears again break from my eyes. The thin wall of confidence, I built an hour ago slowly crumbles down.
"Hey, calm down baby. Sorry, I was working late night so I switched off my phone before going to bed. I heard the news of your father going to jail and you..." She paused, I know what she was going to say next.
"I am all over the social media, the nation's slut, exclusive mistress, Daddy's sex doll, billionaire prostitute etcetera etcetera." I finish for her.
"Don't mind these shits, Anna. I know you haven't done anything wrong. That son of a bitch framed you." She sneers, I can feel the hatred she has for Benjamin in her words.
"The damage is already done, Eda. He ruined us. I don't think I can ever come out of this nightmare. I gave him the leverage to walk over me." I sob silently standing under a tree.
"Let's not talk about the past, Anna. Tell me where are you? I am coming to pick you up." She says changing the sour subject.
"Where's is Frank?" I ask her about her boyfriend.
"He has left for his work." She answers.
"Then I am coming over to your place. You don't need to take the pain of coming over here. I am just a ten minute's walk from your apartment." I stop her from coming all her way to give me a ride.
"I am your best friend, Anna. It is the least I can do for you. Now, hang up and come here. We'll figure out something." She says and disconnects the call.
I throw the empty cup in the trash bin and navigate my stroll in the direction of Eda's apartment. Luckily, at this hour, most of her neighborhood either stay indoors or left for work. I speed up my pace to reach at her place as soon as possible.
This time, the luck worked in my favour. I successfully made my way to her apartment's door and press the door bell. The door opens in next couple of seconds like she has already been waiting for my arrival.
"Hey, come here." She pulls me inside and shut the door before anyone could catch a glimpse of me. I am not a stranger in her neighborhood as I spend most of my weekends at her place.
"Eda, I am doomed." I throw myself in her arms, tears seem to become my best companion since the morning. No matter, how many times they dried up, they come like fresh waterfall everytime I loose control over my emotions.
"Shhh...calm down, Anna. I know the things are more complicated than I am seeing them but there's nothing that we can't sort out." She tries her best to comfort me but we both know, nothing would change any sooner. The storm has left a long-lasting aftermath.
I pull away from her embrace after I pour my pain out in front of my best friend. She didn't misjudge me like my family, it's a relief but I am desperate to come out of this mess as soon as possible.
"Please go and take a refreshing shower till then I'll prepare a quick breakfast for you." She encourages me to do something productive rather than mourning over my doom.
"I am tired, Eda. My whole body aches like someone has pricked thousand needles in my skin." I hug my arms, a sob escape from my mouth.
"I know darling, a warm bath will help your muscles to relax." She strokes my hairs softly.
Eda helps me to stand up on my weak legs and gently lead me to her bathroom.
"I'll pick out some nice outfit for you to wear. I see luck is still on your side. I received a mail from my cousin that they need a designer on urgent basis and your name immediately popped up in my mind. I mailed him your documents and guess what? He wants you to come for interview at 1:00 PM. We still have two hours to prepare for the interview." She exclaims in excitement but it doesn't excite me.
"What is the name of the clothing brand?" I ask her.
"The Belle." She replies with a sparkle in her eyes.
My eyes widen in shock when I heard the name. The Belle comes from an Italian clothing brand. They establish themselves in New York a few years ago and now, they're one of the thriving apparel brand in the country.
"The Belle?" I blink my eyes to confirm whether I misheard her.
"Yes, The Belle. They want freshers from college as they believe in innovative talents and you, my dear Anna, are the mine of talent with high grades in a prestigious college's degree." Eda states proudly about my academic achievements but it doesn't help in the reduction of my anxiety.
She leaves the room to prepare a meal for us while I let my numb body prune under the luke warm water running down from the shower.
The events of last night floods inside my brain. I can only remember bits and pieces from it except the magical touches of the stranger whom I mistook as my Benjamin. I slept with some stranger, a good looking luckily as I can still remember his piercing green eyes with warmth coated in icy coldness. It made me cry silently, the one thing I preserved for my true love is now gone and I don't know the person who robbed it from me.
But a huge part of heart says I did the right thing. It was better to loose my virginity to a vile monster like Benjamin, who turns out to be my biggest tormentor in the disguise of my gallant lover.
After spending good thirty minutes under the shower, I quickly change into the new outfit that Eda picks out for me to wear for the interview. I just pray to my God that nothing would go wrong this time. My family's survival depends on this only ray of hope.
The dress she selected is a maroon shirt with black tight fitted skirt. She chose this sophisticated yet professional dress for me, it is opposite of my taste but beggars can't be choosers. I slip into them in no time and apply minimal make up from the kit I left at her vanity table, in case, we get ready at her place. Honestly, it happened often.
Once, I feel satisfied how I look, I make my way into her kitchen. I spot her serving the grilled sandwiches on two plates with pomegranate juice.
"You're looking ravishing girl." She whistles. I can see approval in her eyes.
"Thanks Eda. I owe you a lot." I say with a faint smile.
"Oh come on, Anna. That's why I am your best friend. Now come and eat before they get cold." She says sitting on one chair. I take slow steps as the pain in my most private part makes it difficult for me to walk.
We finish our breakfast in silence. I am thankful that she never bring up the topic of Benjamin or the last night.
Two hours later, we're standing in front of a magnificent building. The logo of brand sparkles in the sunlight. Sweat beads form on my forehead as it will be the first time I'd be facing the real world, a job I've always dreamt, a fashion designer who wants to revolutionize the fashion industry but when the times finally come for me to transform my dream in reality, I want to run away.
"Let's go inside, Anna. I am sure that you'll get this job." An always chirpy Eda laces our hand and lead us inside the building.
The interior screams of rich aura. Certainly, no average income person can afford their clothes. They're custom made for only rich people. I had a vast collection of their exclusive dresses but now they're gone, locked in my closet and sealed by police.
The receptionist sends us on the third floor where the interviewer is waiting for us. Luckily, I have no other competitors means the job might be mine if I do my best.
"Randy isn't the typical Boss you seen in the movies, Anna. He trusted my recommendation because he had seen your potentials in your portfolio." Eda says as we make our way to the elevator.
I feel out of the place when I observe the employees dressed as high class professionals. They don't acknowledge us until I hear something I shouldn't on the big flat screen in the mail hall.
The news anchor is reciting my scandalous night in the most poetic manner with the same clip playing that Ben sent me to blackmail me.
"Here's is the true face of Harris family. We have spotted Liam Harris with different women in the past but we never knew, his own daughter follow her father's footsteps like religion. Anna Harris, is an example we always stereotype rich girl as spoiled brats."
His mocking words pour hot lava of humiliation over my head. I feel all the oblivious eyes zooming on me.
"Anna, please don't mind them and go for your interview. I hope Randy wouldn't mind such gossips and see your talent than this shit." Eda grabs my hand and tries to pry me away from the judging glares.
"It would be a shame for our company if such low grade slut join us." One of the female employe remarks as she walked passed us.
Tears of shame pool in my eyes.
At the same time, the receptionist rushes in our direction.
"Sorry, Miss Harris but we have to cancel the interview. I am sorry for the inconvenience but we've hired someone else." She tells me without matching my eyes. It was a lie to get rid off me.
"Nonsense! I will call your boss Mr. Randy Fisher. I know there's some kind of misunderstanding." Eda rebels.
"No, Miss Karim, we're not allowed to let Miss Harris enter in the main building, it's a strict order from Mr. Fisher." She says with pity.
Damm!
It was the last drop my confidence. I turn on my heels and run out of the place where people don't hesitate to call me different names on my face.
I heard Eda yelling my name but I ignore everything going around me. All I wish to run far away from this cruel world and never turn back.
Congratulations Benjamin, you officially ruined my present and whole future.
Hunter Storm "You're so fucking beautiful, more than I imagined in my wildest dream, Kitten." I couldn't stop myself from saying those words to the half conscious woman lying beneath me. I never imagined myself to sing praises for a woman before but this woman with a body of a Goddess cast a spell on me.I ran my fingers tips on her belly, her body arched back like a serpent on desert sand."You don't mean it?" She asked me with her half opened eyes, I could see surprise in those pale blue eyes."Yes, I do." I couldn't help myself from smiling on her innocent question. I am sure, she had received praises before. I wasn't her first admirer but I wish to be the last."I never thought you would actually say this to me." A smile tucked on the corner of her lips and it broke the last thread of my patience with her.I had controlled myself from taking her roughly right in the moment she led me inside her hotel room but the way she withered under my touch, I bet she was alien to a man's in
Anna Harris I had to endure a walk of shame from there to here, where I am standing having no home to go, no one to share my pain and no one to help me in reshaping my life.I was busy cursing my fate that I didn't see a car slowing down it's speed and finally halting in front of me.Fear creeps into my heart as I am all alone in the middle of nowhere, homeless and jobless with no penny in my hand to rent a roof over my head for the night. The window glass of the backseat slides down revealing the face of a young and the most handsome man I've ever seen with soul piercing green eyes. They seem familiar but I can't pin out where I've seen them. Staight, styled dirty blonde hairs with pointed nose and thin red lips, for a moment I find myself drowning in those mystical eyes. Perfect tight jaws and high cheek bones enhance the plain of his face. His face, in the dim streetlight looked more like a Greek God from old scriptures. He doesn't look like a criminal from any angle or may be he'
Hunter Storm I rub my temple averting my attention from the girl laid out on my sofa. She looks so pure and flawless even with puffy eyes and bags, her glowing face has lost it's color due to all happened with her in last twenty four hours.I clench and unclench my fists, it's becoming hard for me to stop myself from going straight to that motherfucker's house and shoot him on his balls. He used my kitten as his bait to reach her father's collar.Well, he messed up big times by using my girl. I check the time, it shows half past eleven in the night. I missed the dinner I must attend to fix my earlier mistake. Valentina will be the first one to invade my house as soon as the morning hours roll on.My cell phone chimes diverting my attention from Anna to my phone. I walk to my office and close the door behind me in case she wakes up and listen to my conversation with Blake. She still sees me as a stranger who is forcefully keeping her at his house and if by any chance, she learns that
Anna Harris To say, the night was quite peaceful and I slept forgetting all the misfortune and a platter full of problems, it would be an understatement. I indeed slept peacefully, a dreamless sleep, I should add. May be, I was too tired and my brain shut off. Whatever the reasons were but long night's sleep somehow helped me to regain my energy but the challenge comes along with the morning.I must make a decision. Collect the broken pieces of my life and start from the beginning. May be leaving this country will be a good idea but again, the thought of my family in the middle of a troubled water and my name having the tag of a slut, they need to be cleared first.Again the same question pops up.How?How am I going to join the missing dots? With these uncertain questions whirling inside my head, I decide to come out of the safe confinement of the room and face Hunter. Speaking of Hunter Storm who hasn't told me yet how he knows me and how I am not a stranger to him, I have to confr
Anna Harris "I-I can't live with you, Hunter. It's wrong." I try to shake off the fear that is creeping It's way to my heart. He doesn't look like a criminal or a psycho serial killer but there's no other reason to hold me captive."Look, Anna." He suck a deep breath and the way his adam's apple popped up and down, I assume he's trying to keep his patience at level." I am just trying to protect you." He says, the look in his eyes softening."Why do you need to protect me and from whom?" I raise my brow at him. Honestly, the seriousness in his tone indicates that there's something he wants to confess but he can't."You don't need to know the details, Anna. All I am asking you to stay low profile for some time while I deal with this situation. Believe me, it's temporal." He says, like I predicted, he didn't tell me much."Hunter, I know you are only trying to save me, I appreciate your efforts. I really do but I am a human, a living being with a mind to process everything happening aro
Hunter Storm I find no peace, it seems to abandom me since she asked me to leave her alone and the only thought of her hurting emotionally and mentally, I want to kill myself. I shouldn't have agreed on telling her the truth. Unknowingly, she's melting the stone wall I built around me to save myself from the same agonizing phase where everyone leaves me to endure the pain of being all alone.Having Anna, in this cold and deserted house, with her warmth and positivity she carries with her, I feel the air more welcoming and a homely feeling now sprawls in this house. It has been over an hour but there's no sound coming from the library. The thought of checking upon her through cctv crossed my mind but I shook it off. It will an invasion of her privacy. I've already trespassed it long ago."Mr. Storm, the breakfast is ready." The cook's frightened voice rings in my ear."You may leave the food in the oven. I'll serve it later for Miss Harris and myself." I dissmiss her."But Sir-" She t
Hunter Storm I am disgusted with myself when I stepped inside the warehouse, the place that witnessed the cruelest face of human in the form of Storm men. My grandfather built this hell gate, passed it down to my father and now, I am supposed to continue this legacy which is imposed upon me. For a strange reason, I do enjoy watching my sinner taking their last breathes, waiting for their soul to leave their bodies and end the endless sufferings. I hate myself for the beast I've become. I am no better than my father. Sometimes, I thanked the God for taking my mother away when I was just a kid. She couldn't handle seeing her only child follow his father's footsteps rather than becoming a righteous person as she wished for her children. My father is a person whom no one wants to come across in their right mind. He has always been like this, a ruthless and terrifying man who can bring his enemies on his knees, the only quality I admire about him. He's a man screaming power.I am just his
Anna Harris My head can't stop spinning since I read the folder, I read it multiple times to make sure that my eyes aren't hallucinating, it was there in black, every single detail, from my father's teenge when he got himself involved in the minor activities of mafia to plotting major trading of illegal goods out of the country, his gang is also under the radar of FBI in some kidnapping cases or murders.I shut the file and throw it in some corner of the library. I don't care how Hunter would react on this. Hot tears again brimmed my eyes. All these years, he lived dual life, a caring father who comes home to spend the evening with his family, a businessman who thrived his father's small company to a large scale corporation but in the reality, he retired home with dirt and blood on his hands. He earned the money from bad ways, perhaps by torturing others. He raised us with that money. Suddenly, my desperation to get my father out of the prison disappears in the thin air. If he's actu
Three years laterAnna Harris"Wake up, you sleepy head. We have a big day today." I shake a big sleepy sloth called my husband for the sixth time but he doesn't budge a bit. Sighing to myself, I try the last thing that comes in my mind."What the fuck!" He yells springing up on the bed with a baffled look on his sleepy face."I told you, don't test my patience but do you ever listen to me?" I give him a devilish smirk and place the empty jug on the table, his wet face and naked chest with tiny water beads is a treat to my lusty eyes but I need to restrain my desires until the day ends."It's called torture, Anna. Who wakes up someone by throwing ice cold water on them. I could have shot you out of my habit, Love." He says with concern and I know he's right here."Sorry, it won't happen again but you left me with no other choice, Hunter. We're getting late, the wedding will start at eleven." I reason."It's only 6:15 AM in the morning, babes. What will we do?" He groans, his eyes are
Hunter Storm "Are you ready to do it, with Anna. I mean she's not familiar with our work line and definitely not the violence in front of her." Brandon says as we prepare for the final countdown.A month passed since the accident, the truth revelation and the day Brandon killed Liam Harris. Anna took the loss of her father very maturily though I found her crying silently in the darkness of night when no one sees her pain and mourning on the death of her father. It breaks my heart to think that somewhere I was responsible for her grief. I tried distancing myself from her so she could have her time to grieve but she confronted me saying she had no grudges against me and she didn't want our relation to get blanched in the flames of past."Back to earth, Hunter." Rochelle snaps her hand in front of my face."I am on the earth, Roch. Now, let's check upon Anna first then we'll give the perfect concluding to our last enemy in New York." I say grabbing my gun and putting it in holster."I s
Hunter Storm "One""Two""Three""Let's go inside but make sure we don't make a sound." I whisper to the others while inserting the key in the lock of back door of the house.I silently unclock the door and step inside the kitchen and then signal the others to follow me. A man like Liam Harris can never be trusted. I don't know whether he's planning a secret attack on us or even plotting to take us down while living in our protection."Roch, you have to deal with Mrs. Harris. Don't be rough on her." I remind my cousin who is infamous for her torture innovations."Yes, Boss." She salutes me."They're in their bedroom." Brandon whispers."Still be careful. We don't know if he has some goons hidden here." I alert them.We steadily padded our way to the bedroom. The lights are off which makes it easy for us to navigate though we have to step carefully as the wooden flooring makes creaking noise."Let's open the door, stay behind me." Brady says and opens the door. A sigh of relief escape
Hunter Storm My angel is awake now and no news could make me this much relived. The moment she opened her pale blue eyes, my world stopped spinning. I found myself drowned in their depth. They told many unsaid things. I could see the love she has for me, it was crystal clear but I want her to give her feelings words and voice. After spending another hour with her once the doctors examined her thoroughly to ensure the poison wear off from her body completely. It was another moment of relief for me. The other good news for us is that her reproductive organs are in good shape and in a few years, she'll be fit and healthy to carry a child.By the time I take my exit from the hospital, it's already 8:00 AM in the morning. I decide to drop by my apartment to pack a bag with clothes and other necessary things to leave for Japan in next three hours.I texted Brandon and Brady to meet me at my house along with the other trained men who are joining me in this confidential trip to Japan. Anna HarrisI feel my body being punched brutally, every single muscle screams like a truck has crushed me under it's weight yet I'm alive to feel the pain. I try to open my eyes but they burn as soon as I open them and shut them close again.Am I dead?Last I recall being injected by Benjamin and a paralysis attack numbing my body. I fell unconscious in the park and everything went black.I don't remember anything after that means either I am dead or I am stuck between life or death."Doctor, she's waking up!"I hear Hunter's panicked yellings. It means I survived and now I'm in a hospital. I try to adjust my vision again and indeed find myself resting on a hospital bed with many tubes attatched on my body and beeping sound of monitor."Hun...Hunter." I try to call him but my throat stick due to dryness. He stops yelling and turn to look at me. His devastated sight breaks my heart. He looks lost and lifeless."Anna, you're finally awake." His words come more like a weak whisper and n
Hunter Storm My feet don't allow me to move forward inside the hospital. I have never been this terrified in my whole life. I half fullfiled my promise to Anna, Benjamin is still alive but I have another plan for him.I want Anna to witness his death.I spot my team surrounding the hospital premises. They're alert which gives me a sense of relief. They are never to be told twice once I give them an order."Good morning, Boss." They wish me in unison then I realize the time. My wrist watch shows 4:15 AM in the morning.I recall the last few hours and the gruesome scene I witnessed. It took us five hours to find the woman's family to hand her over some money with her body and also dump the other dead body. We dragged Benjamin to the dungeon in our warehouse where only very few hostages were taken before.I can still hear the ear deafening screams of Benjamin when hot water was poured over him. His blanched skin gave me some relief on my burning anger.I didn't ask the receptionist this
Hunter Storm"Take your positions and do not fire until it's necessary, is that clear. We're standing on a minefield, one wrong step and you'd be found in pieces. These goons are savage, they wouldn't mind before chopping your limbs with a kitchen knife." I remind my men who walks behind me with their guns on alert."Got it, Boss. Don't worry, there will be no unnecessary violence." Brady replies in the behalf of other men."Brand, you'll be with me but if things go out of our hands, I want you to leave." I tell Brandon. We should never underestimate our enemies.Brandon gives me a look of disbelief."Are you even listening to your own words, brother? You want me to leave you here to win or die alone. No way!" He scoffs."Try to understand the situation, Brand." I take a deep breath and then look up at my scowling cousin,"If things go south and I won't make it out, I want you to escape from here. Think wisely, Brandon. We both are chidless means if we both die tonight, our bloodline w
Rochelle's povThe walk to the doctors cabin feels like centuries and a constant hammering in my heart. The worst images fills my brain. I couldn't picture a dead Anna and a broken Hunter. My brother finally got someone who could bring some colors in his dull life, some light to his darkness and some good to his evil.Anna is special. She has the purest heart I've ever known with compassion for everyone she knows. She tried her best to give me the comfort I needed from a friend."Please have a seat first, Ms. Storm." The doctor offers and I complied.Taking his own seat, he adjust his specs and passes me some water,"Please have this, you look stressed and whatever I'm going to tell you would do even worse." He says."Doctor, please don't talk in riddles and come to the point." I snap at him because he sounds more like a grandmother than a professional doctor. He tries to argue with me again but my hand goes for my gun which immediately stilled him."I have suffered a lot more worse th
Hunter Storm"It looks like he has planned it all verh neatly. Just look at this man. He entered in a public toilet and never came out. How is it possible?" Brady scratches his beard as we stare at the laptop screen in front of us.Brandon pulled his strings with his father in law who helped him to get access in the server of traffic control. The footage from around the park captured a very blurr image of Benjamin in a hoodie and a cap on and black shades to hide his identity properly. He maintains a very normal posture so no one could suspect him and after walking through a few blocks, he entered in a public toilet and never came out. Our men scanned the toilet and there's no secret exit door."Is he a ghost? I mean where is he gone if he doesn't come out until five minutes ago. Our men has been guarding the whole area. They didn't catch any unsual activities as well." Brandon says thoughtfully."Or there's a strong possibility that we're not looking into it with our full focus."I fi
